1.5v output from a lithium ion battery!! Impossible - nope - very possible - this is the way forwards for 1.5v AA cells. These batteries perform quite well, a little under their "specifications" but still will be far better that Alkaline, Mercury, NiCd or NiMh in terms of life and their longevity. Lets put them to the test to see if they really do what the manufacturers say, and lets pull one apart to see how it works!!

Just bought some of those Kratax, they do perform really well honestly and I'm gonna replace all the batteries in my devices with them as soon as they die. I have some Ni-MH 1.2V in use right now, these are going to end up in my old camera, because it can use those without any issue, has a mode specially for them. Hope that the Kratax can be used extensively without dying prematurely. I'm tired of always buying giant packs of batteries only to throw them away after they're spent.

I wonder if those values take in to account the Buck converter efficency? The "rated" values might well be for the Lithium battery itself, but with the conversion I'd say you got damn close to what was expected (in 2 out of 3 anyway :) )

I was looking at reviews for lithium AA batteries because I have been tempted to try them. The EBL has an advertised rating of 3300 mWH hours and not 3300 mAh. So they may be performing closer to their advertised mark.

This is a situation where being an early adopter seems very sketchy. I don't really want my AA batteries catching on fire. This video is a year old, already and I am not sure why the big battery companies aren't selling these yet. I suspect it is because they can't make them safe enough and they are worried about liability issues.
@DubiousEngineering
@DubiousEngineering Жыл бұрын
Agreed, none of the big boys have taken this on!!
@noahherron827
@noahherron827 6 ай бұрын
I think the reason why big companies don't adopt this is because there is no money to be made the batteries are so good that they arent disposable right away it will many take you 2-3 years before you buy another one while disposables you have to buy new every three to 4 months that's my thoughts
@horstsauer9089
@horstsauer9089 5 ай бұрын
@@noahherron827 LOL! Maybe the answer is the opposite - all these suck in daily life? The fact that you never know how much charge is left before they suddenly switch off is reason enough to avoid using them. Plus the much higher capacity of current NiMHs, which also run a longer time on > 1.2 V and have less self-discharging. Unless you have a specific mis-designed unit that doesn't run on NiMH reduced voltage there is zero reason to use these insanely overpriced Lithiums.

The fact you cannot fit as much lithium in the package is a poor excuse ! I have found as a rule of thumb with 3.7 v batteries, providing they weigh ok ( many lightweight forgeries used to be out there, not so much now ) 3/4 of the stated capacity is usually pretty accurate. Genuine Panasonic and LG are pretty much dead on however ' rounding up ' still goes on. I have found in the last 12 months most of the Chinese lithium batteries seem OK, the charlatans seem to have fallen away since the addition of compulsory VAT and the withdrawal of government shipping subsidies.

I've been trying to figure out which batteries I need for my devices and the rechargeable lithium has the benefit of consistent 1.5v at the cost of capacity and paying a premium. Cant fully discharge yet they die suddenly. When tested many seem to struggle when pushed and of course die faster depending on how much money you throw at it. If a magnetic charger can be used with the USB c port or even an adapter, it would be a plus for some devices but other than that maintaining 1.5v seems to be the only advantage. If your device is designed to use disposable AA, it doesn't need to maintain 1.5v as the disposable quickly drops in voltage. The 1.2v is better in that regard yet still outperformed by the alkaline in many devices. Idk of many devices that don't work with 1.2v or how they manage to work with alkalines once they drop. Am I missing something that makes these batteries worth paying as much as triple the cost of a 1.2v?

It looks like they're adding the ratings for the cells themselves and not taking into account an efficiencies of the buck converter or any of the others protection circuitry. It's a little disingenuous, but I guess technically it's not lying. Just feels bad. It is really funny though, I was just looking at buying one of these three brands and had almost settled on the kratax when I happen to cross this video. Lol
