Hey guys! I was able to test ride both the Ducati Scrambler and the Monster 797! Both the same engine, but totally different motorcycles! Personally i really like the stye of the Ducati scrambler but if you want to go fast in corners the Monster 797 is the one to go for ;)

Amazing, as I am currently looking at exactly these two machines! Was happy to find your video. Yet I tend to disagree with your outcome overall. Comfort is really important for any longer trips and it’s the first thing you feel when sitting on a new mc. If you are comfortable you can enjoy other things without distractions. Not having a gear indicator on the Ducati was really a surprise and yes, bad line of site in those mirrors was a big deal. You seemed to only look at the feeling of riding both. Well I have heard from so many that there is a lot of fun to be had from the Scrambler and could hear that from you too. I love how you can customize your Scrambler to no end and have decided to go for it. But thx for your input, out did help in the end!

Thanks for the review. The other thing is perception (if that even matters) - people see the Monster and are like "oh cool, a Ducati" they see the Scrambler and are like "oh cool, what's that?"

True I think. I just bought a 797 and wouldn't even look at the scrambler because it doesn't shout Ducati. What a knob I am but a happy knob.

I Purchased the Scrambler, on a test ride it was a hoot! I loved the riding position and tarmac riding was great what persuaded me was I can also green lane it or go off road if I want to. Seen other tubes on the off road riding and they do more than I would on mine with no problems. So simples 2 bikes for the price of one!

I am super divided between the Scrambler full throttle and the supersport 950 S (with raisers). I am waiting for the ducati demo day circus to come by here in Sweden to test them both. Love how comfortable the scrambler is but a classic racing ducati is just an eye candy and the supersport is not too uncomfortable 😅

Did I hear it right: you own a Yamaha MT-09 and would miss the torque if you owned a Scrambler 800? I am about to buy either a Scrambler 800 or an XSR900 (same engine as the MT-09), so this is a useful video for me. I, too really like torque. Excellent video.

Hey man. Sorry i missed your comment. Yes the sensation of speed and torque is very different on the mt09. The scrambler is so smooth that there really isn’t any point where it really kicks in.

I really love the look of the scrambler 1100 sport pro/pro but is it worth exchanging my monster 821 for the scrambler? The HP is less, I am concerned it will be a downgrade. Any advise please???

Cool to see you're also from the Netherlands! I'm looking for both the types. I've had a Monster 800 (old version from 2003) and after that a Yamaha Fazer 600 but I've both crashed them (luckily I had nothing). They were around 100 HP each. So with that in mind, maybe I should go for a lighter bike... The Scrambler looks stunning! Especially the 1100 Special. If I go for one I always go for Termignoni Exhausts, without it sounds too common. And I love aluminium spoke wheels.

So the 797 handles good, has good brakes, but does not have as much torque as the MT-09..so on a track day the 797 might handle better than the mt-09?

Why no highway stuff though? It will be windy but it's a motorbike...Even Harley's come without a windscreen. The wind is normal...Are you refering more to the vibrations on the scrambler? In my point of view all bikes above 600cc are also highway machines. They are not tourers but can handle highway speeds easily.
@TheNiekoss
@TheNiekoss 5 жыл бұрын
Sure! High way is not an issue, but when it comes to crossing greater distances on a highway, it might be slightly uncomfortable after a while depending on your speed. Below 120 km/h is ok. Above that is starting to be quite windy, shaky, etc

Why didn’t you compare the ducati cafe racer to the monster. The icon is totally different in terms of what you are comparing it to in the monster....

I just so happens I am looking at an fz/mt09 and the monster 821, both about 110hp. I have test driven both of these bikes - I was loving the Scrambler, but was not overly impressed with the power. Would you prefer a monster over your mt09?
@TheNiekoss
@TheNiekoss 7 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Morrison Hey man! i would not prefer this monster (797) over the mt09! Howevet, I did not ride the 821 so its difficult to compare. The only thing i can say is that i have fallen in love with the power sensation of the Mt, and its 3 cilinder. I would expect the monster to handle better in corners and have better brakes etc. But for my type of riding (never been on a circuit) the MT handles Good enough in corners. Its very light and easy to manoeuvre. And i think the '17 model looks sick :)

Good to know..I am stressing over getting the fz09 or m821. When I consider an exhaust and comfort seat for the 09, the cost for m821 is nearly the same, compared to 2016 m821 leftover this is. It has come down to seat comfort and sound almost. ..plus optional quick shifter for 09. But you think the m821 corners better, hmm. I bet I'd be ok with the 09's brakes since my present ride, a restored 82' sp500 has drum brakes. :) Thanks!
@TheNiekoss
@TheNiekoss 7 жыл бұрын
Tough choices.. Can keep you awake at night lol. To my opinion the standard seat on the 09 is ok. But the exhaust is not ;) Haha quite an upgrade coming from drum brakes :) Gooluck man! If you can, let me know what you decide and what your experience is!

truly the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Value for Money the MT09 is the best over the Ducati but for me looks take also an important part, the looks of the new MT09 are horrid to me especially the new headlight, were the Ducati is truly a delight to look at. performance wise i guess you have to try them both

What’s wrong with the neutral? I never ridden one but I always hear motorcycle channels complain about it
@cressmanfoster

I don’t know the physics behind it but Harley is the same. After the break in period it becomes much easier. The trick is to give it a little gas just before you put it in to neutral.

Really surprised you found the Scrambler seat more comfortable than the Monster. I feel the opposite is true. The Scrambler is a lot narrower so presume your 'derriere' isn't particularly wide :) I found the Scrambler seat cut into my inner thighs whereas the Monster seat provided better support all around.
@TheNiekoss
@TheNiekoss 7 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Balfour Hey man! The Seat of the scrambler was much much softer! I think you are right that the shape of the Seat of the monster is better and you fit into this quite Nice. But i found the front end of the Seat in the middle (where I keep my most valuable assets;) to be pretty hard. Cheers!

I felt the Monster 797 seat to be very well padded -- a big improvement on the 696. I sat on the Scrambler for ~ 20 minutes earlier today and found the seat to be narrow and hard. As I said, it was the fact that it cut into my inner thighs that bothered me most. I guess this sort of thing will forever remain subjective. Ride safe!

I find my Scrambler is pretty comfortable for short rides. But at the end of 200 miles or more I'm really sore- gotta get up and shake it. I have gotten used to it on some 2000 mile rides, which include lots of short stops.

I've ridden my Scrambler extensively in city traffic...in Tucson AZ. When the temp is over 80 and I'm spending a lot of time stopped for traffic, my right leg can get pretty uncomfortable. I must make a conscious effort to keep my leg away from the bike. That said, it's a great bike in traffic, very easy to ride for this rather novice biker.
