Duchess of Sussex speaks Māori in New Zealand suffrage speech

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has charmed New Zealanders by speaking in te reo Māori during her first speech in the country.
The duchess gave a passionate speech about women's suffrage in Wellington in which she offered a formal greeting in the indigenous language: 'Tēnā koutou katoa [greetings to all]'

Still remember the film " Once Were Warriors " Brutal look at the Maori people and their plight. Hope things have improved. Of course it was a depiction based on true stories. Powerful film.

For those that did not know that Meghan had fans on all continents on earth and many countries, here is proof: A Pre-Harry New Zealand Fan of Meghan: A young fan was overcome with emotion after the Duchess of Sussex stopped to speak to her before leaving the Viaduct Harbour during a public walk in Auckland this afternoon. Hannah Sergel said Meghan used to follow her on Instagram and that they had chatted before, but this was their first time meeting in person. Ms Sergel had travelled from Christchurch for the event. "She said, 'Thank you for getting in touch,' and then she gave me a hug and said she would read my letter that I gave her," Ms Sergel told 1 NEWS. "I was friends with her on Instagram before she had to deactivate her account. We used to have conversations and stuff on there. "She would tell me to do well at university and encourage me to be myself. "It means the world to me. I am so shaky and flustered. When I first saw her, I cried."

Actually, in this case, "me and Harry" is correct. You wouldn't say "hosting I". The correct word is "me".

That's incorrect. The case to use is objective case, which is either "me and Harry" or "Harry and me".

@@ben1NZL I have nothing against Megan but Mia is right. Since you asked. For example, in the subtitles you can see a line above certain letters (a macron). This means the pronunciation of the letter should be elongated. Vowels are also pronounced differently in Māori. There's nothing wrong with trying though, just like there's nothing wrong with pointing out the mistake. Otherwise, the pronunciation will only grow worst.

Funnily enough, "me and Harry" here is, in fact, proper English. "Me" is the object in the sentence. You would say "I" if it were the subject. E.g. "Thank you for hosting me and Harry/Harry and me", but "Harry and I/I and Harry are happy to be here."
