I love that line, "I recon every family has to find their own normal." Goofy is speaking from his own experience as a widower. The creators of Goof Troop and the Goofy Movies have said that Max's mother is dead. So from the time Max was a small child, Goofy had to find a normal for their family.

The idea of Goofy being a widower/Max's mother being dead is nothing but hearsay. While it is may be the most likely case, it's never been stated anywhere by anyone in anything.

haha yeah they never address the mom. She could have left, died, or anything. I like to think that she abandoned them because that would give Goofy a better reason to not want to talk about her. Either way Goofy was a great single Dad in Goof troop/ a goofy movie.

I once thought it'd be fun to have Mickey cameo somewhat like this: at some point in a story Donald spots an advert for a detective agency run by M. Mouse (referencing old comics where Mickey was a famous sleuth) and Donald says something like "Don't remind me of that show-off". It'll never happen now, but I think that would've been neat.

This one is actually tied for my favorite so far (with Louie's Eleven and Double-O Duck) because we get a deep look into Donald and how he's handling everything. He's most likely never *had* a normal life because he and Della have been adventuring with Scrooge since they were kids. He's probably been sacrificed or trapped more times than he could count and that's given him some PTSD. When Della got stranded on the moon it pushed him over the edge and in turn made Donald want to do *anything* to keep his boys safe. Then we get the double-whammy of Donald's insecurity about his voice. It is also something Donald has dealt with his whole life and has been a large factory in his temper and general unluckiness. No one can understand him which leads to Donald not getting the respect he deserves. I just have a LOT of feelings about Donald

I adored this episode, from the Classic outfits for Donald, Scrooge, Beakley and Launchpad, to the fun plot, to Gene the Genie, and ESPECIALLY Goofy. I loved the way that they made everything seem... off at the start of the episode, culminating in the return of Donald's intelligible voice. The fact that it's not even addressed until Huey looks at the Woodchuck Guidebook makes it all the better; it helps build everything up to the climax halfway through, and it honestly makes it kind of creepy - the atmosphere and feeling of the DuckTales world is completely different from what we know, yet no character actually acknowledges it until Huey - who is initially presented as 'Crazy' (that line from Louie about thinking Dewey would be the first to snap is great) spells it out for them. It makes me think - what if Huey hadn't figured out what was going on? The Ducks would have carried on in this Sitcom-inspired world, and - although they would've been safe - they wouldn't be THEM. Donald's wish made perfect sense for his character - he just got his entire family back, and together for the first time - given the chance, who wouldn't want to keep them safe, and remove the chance of someone getting lost again? This ties into how Goofy was used in this episode, which I also loved. They allowed him to be Goofy from Goof Troop and A Goofy Movie in the best way possible, having him tell Donald the, whilst clique, completely true and important message that 'Every family has their own normal'. Using Goofy to help Donald come to terms with the fact that there will be danger, but that's normal, and helping him embrace his family's normal rather than being in constant fear that everything will fall apart again is honestly the best way they could've used Goofy, capitalizing on his role as one of Disney's greatest father figures and Donald's best friend within the Fabulous Five at the same time. Goofy is probably the only character who understands both Donald and being a father - one who is constantly surrounded by danger as well, showcased in this episode through a recount of a mishap with a Roller-coaster, - well enough to give Donald this talk, to help talk him into bringing his Family's normal back. Whilst this very well could be the only time we see Goofy, due to the fact that they set up Max in this episode and as Goofy appeared so early in this season, I hope that means we'll see Goofy again soon so that he can further help Donald, bringing the adventurer out of him that has been teased since Season 1 and finally getting him to reel in any remaining over-protectiveness he has, presumably through demonstrating how he had raised Max. After all, if Goofy can raise his son and accept that he won't always be safe (especially due to Goofy's, well, Goofiness), Donald can learn to finally accept that his family are safe, and that he's not going to lose them again. Of course, with F.O.W.L resurfacing Donald may find it hard to fully accept his families' 'normal' (I definitely expect Donald's family-related fears and insecurities that were showcased in this episode to resurface in full force when the family find out about FOWL). Gene the Genie was also a highlight in this episode. I love the way that they teased that he was behind it, through Dewey's use of the catchphrase "Shabooey" when revealing Donald's "new 'do" - it was a great hint for fans of the Treasure of the Lost Lamp movie, whilst also working with other hints - such as the 'Photographer' appearing in the Pep Commercial- to allow people who have this episode as their first introduction to Gene to put hints together when he is revealed as the man behind this new sitcom-esque reality. Unlike Goofy, who probably won't return (but hopefully will), Gene feels like he's guaranteed to reappear at some point later in the Season - for Gene, this episode serves to showcase the extent of his Genie powers, allowing the audience to see just how powerful Gene is, meaning that when FOWL inevitably steals the Lamp for themselves to make their own diabolical wishes (let's be real, we all know that's going to happen) we already understand the stakes, so no time later in the season is wasted explaining why it's so bad that FOWL gets their hands on these artifacts. Another reason I believe Gene is likely to return is that he was freed from the Lamp - this sets up him returning in the future, as he can still be used by darker forces. It feels deliberate that not only is he not freed from the lamp, leaving him free (or, rather, not free) for other characters to use for their own wishes, but also not shown what the Family actually does with the lamp in general - we don't know if it's still in the cave or if the family took it home with them, and thus having him never appear again would make him feel more like a loose end than anything. The humans in this episode were also a nice surprise. I love the way they were made out to be genuinely terrifying monsters, whilst still having designs that echo how humans were drawn by Disney in Disney Afternoon shows they appeared in (I even saw people on the r/DuckTales subreddit draw comparison between them and the humans on Quack Pack, which is fitting due to the name of this episode). I do wonder if Humans exist in the DT17 universe outside of the wish reality to some extent - maybe they are on another planet entirely, alike how Darkwing Duck handled them (although I wouldn't be against never seeing Comet Guy again). Overall, this episode was amazing. From the guest characters, to Donald's development, to the comedy and the plot itself, Quack Pack is probably my second favourite episode of this season, only slightly behind "Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!". This season is shaping up to be DT17's best Season yet.

I loved this episode. My kids not so much. Having lived through the 90's. All the references got a belly laugh from me. The biggest is that the main human attacking them was the anchorman/producer/boss of Donald and Daisy in Quack Pack. Jaleel White as Gene was a masterstroke. Quack Pack wasn't reference any 90's sitcoms, but the Disney produced ABC TGIF sitcoms. A lineup that included Perfect Strangers and Family Matters, Home improvement and Full House, all the way to Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Goofy channeled Wilson from Home Improvement as well as Danny from Full House. And Jaleel White, the iconic intrusive neighbor as the genie was great. I smiled wistfully as he introduced his genie self in a shower of confetti. (RIP for Rip) Needless to say, I had to explain a lot of the in jokes to my little ones. With White and Schwarz in the same episode. I'd like of Instagram picture with the both of them in the sound booth and the caption "You're the Sonic now, dawg!"

You know what type of episode I wanna see in the future? An episode that delves into Donald's position in the family now that Della Duck is back. What if Donald starts to feel like he's no longer important to the boys now that their mother is back. Donald has taken care of the boys their whole life, what kind of emotional toll could that have on Donald in having to face the potential reality that the boys may no longer need him now that Della is back in their lives. The boys are clearly very important to Donald, and I would love to see the showrunners tackle this idea, I could see it being a very emotional episode.

Yeah I do agree with that point. The kids have their mom back but they still need their “dad”. Plus those two are two completely different types of parents, Donald is the careful overprotective father who goes to far because he is scared of losing them like he lost his sister for ten years, and Della is the crazy hyper fun mother trying to give her children the most fun and can be overwhelming, trying to make up for her being gone for the past ten years. Both of them have their extreme sides which the children don’t like, but Donald tries to be more ok with adventuring, and Della being less extreme. Ironically despite Della being the mother and Donald being the Uncle, the bond feels like Donald is the Overprotective father, and Della being the Wild fun but crazy Aunt (makes sense based on how they were raised but still weird).

Personally, for me, this HAS been my favorite episode, easily. I've ALWAYS loved reality altering stories in fiction, where you have a serialized, episodic series, and suddenly the characters wake up in an entirely foreign situation to what they normally do. Because then we get to explore interesting, unique dynamics between the characters and it's always really interesting to see these characters thrown out of their normal into an entirely different kind of scenario. And Quack Pack was a lot of fun for doing that in a way that still felt like a big Ducktales adventure. Besides that, the fact Goofy was here was one of my most anticipated moments of the season so far, barring another Sensational Six's appearance a few episodes from now. Goofy is just an incredibly endearing, lovable character, and I feel they really nailed what makes Goofy who he is. Goofy's a good dad since he loves his kid and is always doing his best for him, Goofy is a wacky, comical... Goof, who is great for slapstick as well as being a good character for a straight man to play off of, and Goofy is a good friend, always willing to listen to and help out Donald, even in spite of how Donald may find Goofy annoying or exasperating to deal with. And what I love about Goofy's speech to Donald, and Goofy as a whole here, is it felt like Goofy above all the others stayed the most true to himself. The heartfelt speech that puts everything into perspective and makes things right is a hallmark of sitcoms, yeah, but the speech Goofy gives Donald feels very true to Goofy as we've known him across all the animation featuring Goofy as a father, and the speech just felt like, even if they weren't stuck in a sitcom world, that Goofy would have given that exact same speech if Donald talked to him about wanting a normal family. Besides, Goofy, like Donald, seems aware of their situation the whole time- he looks at the camera when he tumbles over the kitchen island, does a pose when he faces Donald for the first time, and doesn't seem to show much resistance to their situation and just rolls with it. Which feels true to form for a happy-go-lucky guy like Goofy. So while it may not have been your favorite episode, it was absolutely my favorite, since it hits a lot of areas I love seeing in fiction, had a lot of fun jokes, and some great guest appearances by Goofy and Gene.

I still think this episode basically mocks Disney Channel's generic, bland, unfunny kiddy sitcoms. Almost as if the writers knew that Disney was going to stick their show back on the sister network, or rather brother network, and they wanted to get in jab at the shows they were getting shoved off for. The purposely cringe inducing scene transitions, the characters being written as one dimensional tropes, obviously the blatant "Baba Network" commercial bumper. Almost to say "Hey. We're writing deep, fun, emotional stories, and you're just doing bad sub-Full House humor." I'm also glad that they decided to keep Goofy as totally part of this universe, thought they kinda have to since "Stand Out" by Powerline was sung in the last season by Dewey and Della. It would have been heartbreaking for Goofy to be part of the audience and other cast mob trying to destroy them. Oh. And Quack Pack isn't nearly as bad as the reputation would suggest. It's perfectly fine, Donald's still Donald, so at least there's that to make it enjoyable. It's NO Goof Troop, which handled the mix of sitcom and classic Disney cartoon much better, but it hardly deserves the crap it gets. Though it's dated as hell.

The worst part of that show was that you could TOTALLY tell that they tried making the triplets Disney's equivalent of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, only tween heartthrobs for some reason. I remember seeing them somehow on the cover of a teen girl's magazine, and finding it really odd. Other than that, I find it quite decent. There are cartoons of that era far more annoyingly dated and painful to watch. Then again, I have a bias with Disney's Ducks. It had Donald and Ludwig in it. My only complaint is the lack of Scrooge, even in cameo form.

Great review as always! I love the visual storytelling in this episode. You could say that the sitcom parts of the episode in the first 2 acts may have freed up the time to be more dynamic than normal in the third act. One of the things I loved about it was that, from a design and storytelling point, the closer they got to discovering that they were in a sitcom the more dynamic and deep the sets and shots became. The episode starts out incredibly flat in terms of visuals with the single sets and typical 3 camera style with punch-ins and different angles. And then the further in we get into the episode and the more unwoven everything becomes the more dynamic the shots get. Climaxing in some of the same sets with dynamic angles as opposed to the flat ones that preceded it. It's absolutely amazing.

The genie says "Ages....! The long-ago year of the NINETEEN-NINETY" after he's found out, and something 'clicked' in my head. What if... the world of Ducktales is our Earth, but THOUSANDS OF YEARS in the future? Humans extinct, not a trace of them, and now antropomorphic animals rule the planet. Why? Because... the 'audience' for the episode's "episode" are none other than HUMANS! Not "human look-a-like"... but humans. So what if this Genie was created in OUR "1990's"... and survived all the way to the world of Ducktales? Like Alladin's genie that lived thousands of years in that lamp.

The best reference to the 90's sitcoms in this episode is the kitchen. Seriously, every 90's sitcom had a kitchen everyone hung out in. Home improvement, roseanne, drew carey, sabrina the teenage witch, fraser, seinfeld, full house, boy meets world. The list goes on. And honestly, when was the last time you saw the kitchen in Ducktales? That's right, the bigfoot episode and that's only because bigfoot was raiding it for food.

So far this is the only reboot I've seen that not only makes callbacks to its original source material, it also makes callbacks to OTHER properties on its network IN THE SAME EPISODE and STILL make it work somehow. And the types of callbacks are complete fan service, too, such as the characters wearing their original designs and mentioning 1990, the year the Ducktales movie took place. If there was any doubt that the creators of this show know who their fans are and know their source material(s), this episode basically eliminates all doubt.

I actually think even the original pitch for a super simple bottle episode, if played straight, might leave the boarding team grasping at straws, unless they wanted to just phone it in completely; the stilted, limited angles and a script made up of everyone just standing around talking, might make it challenging to board scenes in ways that are interesting and not just.... the same three shot held at different distances throughout the entire episode. I think making it a deliberate parody/homage of sitcoms was really the only way to make it work organically... though they definitely wrote themselves out of the bottle halfway through anyways.

Speaking of tv show clichés, did anyone notice that they showed the final part of the DUCKTALES opening credits only? The part with the logo? Pretty sure that's a shout out -- and shout at -- to how the opening credits of modern sitcoms (and most other fictional tv) are just long enough to show the title. Also, pretty sure the human audience wad a reference to a DARKWING DUCK episode where he was sent to the "real world" where he was just a cartoon character.
