Duckweed in Green Lake

Duckweed is a native aquatic plant that lives in Green Lake. Duckweed, in reasonable amounts, is normal and healthy for waterways, but in recent years, the prevalence of duckweed on Green Lake is causing navigation issues, reducing recreation access, and hampering lake enjoyment.
If you are in support of the Green Lake Association and our partners exploring solutions to minimize the presence of duckweed on Big Green Lake, please fill out our petition via the link below. These possible solutions will require approval from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), so your support of this petition will greatly assist us in this effort.

Many types of duckweed are used as a feed supplement for livestock. If it checks out, the maybe the co-op could harvest and use it to supplement winter, livestock diets. Algae based products like kelp that help feed cattle tend to reduce methane releases and improve herd health. I wonder if Beaver Dam Analogs along the streams might spread out and mitigate some of the phosphorous releases along with the no-till framing practices.

Limit the lake’s exposure to nitrogen - that would help a lot I think..
