On Due South in the Season One episode "The Deal" the character of Ray Vecchio (David Marciano) confronts the demons of his past, and mobster Frank Zuko (Jim Bracchitta), and in so doing, garners my respect and admiration for all time. A bravura performance by David. Ironically, Ray's bare fists leave Frankie's face pulpier than Fraser's pretty visage was left earlier in the episode when he was beaten by several mob henchmen, one with brass knuckles!!!

This is a masterclass in dramatic acting. This show always batted above its average.

The book you could write about what Ray Vecchio is thinking and feeling at the door, starting at 4:36..... the raw emotions and everything that is expressed without words right there....David Marciano is freaking fantastic. Absolutely BRILLIANT

"This don't make you safe!" "I didn't ask for that." That and the "what are you looking at?" "Nothing." are both brilliant!

I mean everything comes through EVERYTHING. His strength and yet his disgust that he had to use those tactics to do what needed to be done. It sickened him on some levels to resort to bullying the bully. The fear, because everyone has always feared Zuko and he just pput his life on the line. The relief, that Zuko was caving in....like how freaking awesome is this guy right here? Ok rave over lol

This is honestly one of my favorite scenes in all of television. I love it when a character who's usually treated as something of a goofy sidekick finally steps into the spotlight and gets a bit of depth--and boy does Ray Vecchio have depth! He's so cool. "What are you looking at?" "Nothing." The double meaning in this line gets me every time. Frank Zuko is NOTHING. That is what Ray reduces him to. Ray goes after the one place where Frank Zuko is vulnerable, his ego, and absolutely destroys him.

I wholeheartedly agree....it's a shame his character on the shield was just a joke.

They should teach this episode and scene in screenwriting class - and acting class. So well done.

This scene was so satisfying to watch. Bullies are nothing. Go Ray!

Miss David Marciano. He should’ve got an award for this. So glad he had the chance to be the good guy in this episode instead of Fraser.

All those years of being the big, bad wolf... and it was always fake. The only power he ever had was the power of fear. And fears can be overcome.

I remember scanning the channels, saying to my Mom 'We have to check out that new series again", talking about 'Due South'. From '21 Jump Street' to 'Due South', Canada put out a few cool shows in the '80s and '90s. There are still episodes I never caught, but this was probably the all-time best scene, for the feel-good factor of comeuppance. The scene of Fraser and Thatcher in handcuffs on the train and the one of Ray and the spy with Colin James' Why'd You Lie? backing it round out my Top 3.

They edit this out on TV these days. In 90's we could handle it

Shows can be way more brutal than this now. A few punches and some blood wouldn't even be a blip on the radar for a show like The Boys, for example.
