This was an excellent banquet welcoming the Emperor and Empress of Japan. It is wonderful too to welcome the Emperor back to the UK as well after he initially studied here as a student at Oxford. It really is amazing, and quite frankly honestly under represented and valued how connected our two countries have been over the centuries. Let us hope we continue to grow closer together. BTW, is there a reason though why the Lord Mayor of London sounds rather American?

As a young prince he must have had a nice time with Japanese Emperor as well as King Charles when Queen Elizabeth invited young Oxford student Hirohito (Emperor) over to treat him like a family. Princess Anne must have missed welcoming Japanese Emperor and Empress during this visit. We really hope her quick recovery.

Where did you get the idea that it's supposed to be a royal setting? It was put on by the city of London, by the Lord Mayor of London and had people with titles show up. Don't disparage what he has to work with.

I wish some people would open their minds. The Royal Family can use State Dinners to forge trade deals and diplomacy This is good for Great Btitain and Japan as well. It is better to have unity and good relations with other countries, rather than conflict. The late Queen visited many countries that would not allow other Heads of State into their country. It’s the next logical progression in society and we need it right now because we have messed up the environment so bad that that is the safest way to get us back into parameters that allow us in the rest of the life forms on earth to live somewhat peacefully. Before we go out into space any further we need to know how life on earth works, and we have not tried hard enough. We risk AI getting rid of us because we’re not taking care of each other or our own biosphere. we’re lying directly to each other and AI is going to know this and not like what is happening so to bring us back under control it may just get rid of us
