French people are also kind to those who attempt to speak French, honestly and humbly, but not those who mock it. If you lived in France during WWII and saw everything destroyed by German Nazis, you would not feel too kindly toward them either. The French are also snobs, a known fact. @@mjremy2605 I've been to France scores of times, on work and holiday. I genuinely try, I'm polite and I don't mock. I've met those who are patient and will help, I've also met those whose faces contort when you make mistakes and almost (or openly) mock you in return. I'm guessing for those people there is an expectation that you won't butcher their language and will be fluent. However, we all have to reach fluency through practice.

Most of this was learned in preparation for the interview; his accent is terrible and shows he has had little exposure to native speakers. They married to cement political and economic ties but did so largely within religious constraints. The catholic and protestant royal families tended not to intermarry which meant that British royalty looked to other protestant European dynasties for partners - to the many German courts, to the Scandinavian countries etc.
