I think what happened at the beginning was that when diddy used his forward tilt his arm's for that moment were registered as a hit box so his hit box was extended a bit but when DK used his forward special it was a split frame after diddy used his tilt so his hit box was still active and the attack connected

1) Hurtbox extension. You can even see Diddy do the f-tilt. 2) Apparently it has a reverse hitbox. Lots of moves do. 3) Smash attacks clanking during witch time is a well-known phenomenon. It's why Bayos jab first if they can. 4) Popo got hit by the landing hitbox of Bowser's dair. If you go frame-by-frame you can see there's a couple frames where he's at 162% before he gets the extra 2% that the landing hitbox deals. This was able to happen because Popo got hit by dair's falling hitbox I think just a frame before the landing hitbox came out, probably facilitated by him leaning forward out of the way during his dash(?) grab. 5) A known (though definitely strange) glitch. 6) Because of how far forward Mario leans while spraying water, the hitbox for the spin Chrom does at the top of his up b was able to just clip him, and because that hitbox has an autolink angle that tries to keep opponent's in the move, it pulled Mario with Chrom when he got pushed back by the water. 7) Lucas is invincible for the first 7 frames of up smash. I could only guess as to why, but he is. 8) This one I'm less sure about, but I think that Greninja landed onstage before his counter's hitbox came out, causing him to lose his invulnerability and leaving him open to the launcher hit of Terry's up b. 9) The hitbox for tatsu is on Ryu's leg, and sends the opponent in whichever direction the leg is pointing at the time. Pac-Man just traded with it while the leg was pointing backwards, so he got sent backwards. It would be weirder if when you ran into Ryu's tatsu from behind, instead of getting knocked away from him you got knocked forward with him. That's Ken's thing. 10) This one is pretty self-explanatory. Be careful approaching Min Min on those side plats. (BTW I'm pretty sure that combo isn't true, before anyone starts yelling for nerfs) 11) The launcher hitbox on Yoshi's bair extends a little into his body. Looks like Ken dashed towards Yoshi, which brought him far enough into Yoshi's body to touch that hitbox. 12) DK's up b put his hurtbox significantly inside the stage and the first active frame of K. Rool's dair has him sticking his legs way down below where his body was a frame earlier, which lets him get that good good spike hitbox below the ground. 13) Mario's cape doesn't confer any hitstun, and he hit Wolf with it late enough in Wolf's side b that he was still well within range of the spike hitbox when it came out a few frames later, and since Mario had (probably accidentally) fallen off the stage to use the cape, that was it. 14) I'm not even sure what's supposed to be dumb about this one. Can people really not tell that Luigi did a bair? You can even hear his grunt for it. I guess the fact that he got sent to the left is weird but he was even more dead if he'd gone to the right so whatever. 15) This sort of thing has been happening since someone first b-reversed Roy's up b in Melee. Sometimes they give the early hitboxes of traveling multihit moves a lot of knockback to make sure the whole move connects properly. Get used to it. 16) The commentator's got it. Zelda got stage spiked by the grenade. 17) Apparently under precise conditions, it's possible for PK Thunder to go through shields. And then Bowser probably just got barely shield poked by the second part of the move. 18) I guess in case you didn't know, Ganondorf's f-smash is really strong? Dunno how this is news to anyone but okay. 19) The tail of PK thunder clipped Diddy, releasing the barrels to hit the bottom of the stage and explode. 20) This must be an old clip. As in, from before last November, because patch 6.0.0 fixed this bug. 21) Snakes up-tilt starts low to the ground and Falcon got barely clipped by it. 22) Joker jabbed, which involves him leaning way forward, which got him far enough inside Samus to get clipped by the charge shot. 23) Yeah, Link's up b does that. People should know by now. 24) Olimar's grab hitboxes are on his pikmin, which were behind him. The commentator has the right of it. 25) Hurtbox shifting from the roll made it look like Dr. Mario got scooped from further away than he really did. 26) ZSS's pivot grab doesn't go as far as you would think from its animation. Probably should be fixed. 27) You get pushed offstage while doing a move that puts you in freefall, and you get put into freefall. It's annoying, but it makes sense. 28) ...Yeah I got nothing for that one either. 29) It's the weirdest two-frame anyone's ever seen, but it's a two-frame. Admittedly, while that's why the barrels disappeared, it doesn't tell us why the game decided to place Diddy so low down. I can't explain that. 30) I can't explain Lylat's edges either. 31) Are people really still getting their knickers in a twist over stuff like this? Hero does that sometimes. Respect his self-buffs. 32) Okay, that one got me. 33) Traveling multihits are a hell of a drug. I feel compelled to point out that Pikachu still had his up b AND double jump and could've easily lived if the player hadn't misinputted a neutral b. 34) Another clip from before 6.0.0, which also fixed the bug that caused the C4 hitbox to travel with the character it was stuck to if there was a Finish Zoom (technical term) when they went flying. Also Diddy didn't die first because he ran into the Cypher.

Multi-hit moves can make for some truly bs plays, but the reason for them (sometimes) having strong initial or lingering hitboxes is simple: MOST multi-hit moves with this property either wouldn't properly connect against small/low-profiling grounded opponents, or just straight up won't work at all. Examples are wolfs up-b, which needs that strong initial hit to link into itself reliably, or roys blazer in melee, which would have the same issue with low initial knockback. The problem is that if only that initial hitbox connects, you end up getting jank such as getting gimped at 0 offstage by wolf, or dying off the top with light characters because of roy. Ngl when stuff like this happens, it makes for some of the best moments in esports (even if it is really stupid)
