Much respect for showing ways to make smartphone usage more minimal. I've seen a lot of people with social media addictions thinking smartphones are the problem and moving to a dumb phone thinking it will fix everything, only to be frustrated by the limitations they impose. Dumb phones are not for everyone and it's great that you're showing people they don't need to give up their smartphone just to reduce their usage of it.

I have been using a degoogled Graphene OS Pixel with almost nothing on it for the past year, which has really helped break my smartphone addiction. All I use is podcasts and music and magic maps and my home security app. I love your channel, really helps people detox and figure out what works for them.

I love that you call the LP2 a lifestyle change device, bc it truly is. Just started #GoingLight recently. It's been so crazy to not be behind a screen all day. Very freeing and I have a lot of time to just reflect and be present in the moment. I also started calling smartphones "pocket computers with phone capabilities", because they truly are that. I don't need a pocket computer most days. I need a phone so I can connect with loved ones. That's all. Great video!

Why didn’t you buy a 60 dollar Nokia? I think the LP2 is unnecessary expensive. In the end it is all about disconnecting and not about a fashion hype like the LP2.

@@rob2662 just my .02 - I just sold my iPhone 12 Pro Max and ordered a Light Phone 2. After weighing the options I decided the LP2 was the better choice over a regular feature phone due to the super simple UI and E-ink screen. I want the device that replaces my smartphone to be as simplistic as possible - a lot of the really cheap feature phones still have a lot of pre-loaded bloatware and spyware crammed in there. Lastly, I think what Light Phone Inc is doing is worth supporting - I would rather give my money to a small company run by a handful of people trying to do something different than another huge corporation.

I’ve been checking in on your channel all year and I just wanted to say thank you. Last January I accepted the fact that I due have an addiction to my iPhone and it fucking sucks. I’ve been so unhappy. I decided I was gonna get a dumb phone a year ago and have yet but coming back to this channel every so often and rewatching your reviews, I think I’m ready to take the leap. 😊

This is the only KZfaq video that goes through the best devices for minimalism! :)❤️ Great video mate! And also wanting to add to the qwerty keyboard phone honorable mentions, is the Blackberry Key2 and Key2 LE, I know they're both a bit old, but they're really robust and sometimes older is better, I recommend the LE version of it :) btw I've bought that F22 pro and gave it to my little sister, she absolutely love it, thank you so much!!👍❤️ Tbh I want one myself but I already have a minimalist Android phone oof :)

Waited all year for this video! I've gone back and forth with the light phone and my iphone (with the apps I don't want to use uninstalled). My biggest reason I couldn't use the light phone for more than a month at a time (tried it three seperate times over 1.5 years) is because the GPS/Mapping didn't work well enough and I got SO lost SO often. Everything else worked fantastically. Defintiely considering some of these transition devices as I try to lessen my time even more!

If you get an old android phone with an old android version, most fancy apps would not be compatible so you get stuck to basics. It's like a feature phone, but reusing an old device.

Great video as always. One minor correction regarding the beginning of the video - Android custom Rom - 2:05 minutes of the video. Not all android phones have option going through this modification. Only certain android devices have options to be custom modified with different ROM. From all of the latest and new devices that are on the current cellphone market, Google Pixel devices at the moment are the only one that can be modified to Graphene OS or CalyxOS. Some older devices have support with Lineage OS and CyanogenMod. The problem and issue with the custom ROM is that is limited to enthusiasts. General population doesn't have an idea about this, otherwise we will have a plethora of other devices that can offer this feature. Thank you for bringing this particular topic to this video.

I just switched to a Cubot Pocket and it is an amazing transitioning device, I did not really use my phone that much so I didn't feel the need to switch to a dumbphone completely but I still wanted a good gps, spotify, whatsapp and nfc payment. It does the job perfectly, the battery lasts 1 to 2 days and i can hold it with one hand. I am so happy with it. Only complain is that the screen is not the most responsive but I personnaly don't care about those things.

Just bought the LP2 since it’s on sale. Used a flip phone for a year but then it broke. Went back to my iphone but have been looking for something to transition back to. Was interested in the MP02 for a long time but after looking into the LP2 I was really impressed. The GPS tool was the deciding factor for me. The ability to have it just in case so I can truly use it as an everyday phone. Thanks for the video!

Uninstalling stuff from your iPhone to make it "dumb" is the same as being addicted to your PlayStation and hiding the controller in a drawer. If you are addicted, you know that you will get back that controller from the drawer, the same you will reinstall the apps and stuff.

The Nokia 2780 has one issue which really made me give it up. You cannot dial the initials of a contact so it should bring it up on the screen, you have to remember the numbers. This is a feature every other flip phone has.

Thank you for the vid. I actually have the blue Nokia (mine is black). Did an unboxing video on my channel. But the dumbphones are far from the very basic needs of the customers in 2022. If you remember the 2000s, the phones back then were far superior than the current dumbphones. The most needed feature is a good battery. My Nokia lasts, but dies very unexpectedly when it the battery is low. Not an easy to use device. So I don't use it. My wife had the same and also stopped to use it.

The light phone is easily my pick. I’ve had many of the phones featured here and more that weren’t like the AGM M7 and Sunbeam F1, but the Light Phone is the most unique with its E-Ink screen and super thin build. I get a full 2 days of battery minimum out of it and never dropped a call on T-Mobile.

Switching from the Galaxy Z Flip5 to the Unihertz Titan Pocket. Mostly for the screen ratio and the keyboard. A lot of people have said that it takes 5-7 scrolls just to read one instagram/facebook post which I think is perfect! Its definitely nice to check on social media every once in a while. But I wont be as tempted if I have to scroll so much.

2780 has KaiOS and WhatsApp. 225 has not. But the key should be only calling and texting. What is the use if you have to browse on such a tiny slow screen. Then you get frustrated, you throw the dumbphone away and younger on the smartphone again. What I do: 1. I remove my simcard from my smartphone. I now can still use WhatsApp on WiFi. 2. When I go out I use my Nokia 225 for calling and texting. No more connected and tracking fuss underway… 3. When I come home I read my messages. If things are really important, someone will call me. 4. Or I download Spotify songs and take the smartphone on airplane mode with me, as a music player and sometimes as a camera. Now you maybe have the best of both worlds.

I think these kind of devices that still run on android are the bare minimum for people like me. Here in Sweden it is almost impossible to live without one. Need to take the bus or train? Need a phone. Need to send someone money or do some banking? Need a phone. Moreover, many websites in Sweden authorise you by using something called bank id which has your identity details and personal identification number linked to it. All of these things are a grade A pain in the arse to do without a smart phone. So my game plan is to simply find the best android phone possible that is as small as possible to make it horrible to use but still practical

Hello! I’m new to dumbphones, I hope someone in the comments can help me with my queries ^^ I’m in Singapore, and one of the ones I can find easily is LG Wine Smart and LG Ice Cream Smart. There’s a few other options like Energiser phones. Otherwise, a lot of dumbphones talked about online is difficult for me to find. Would any of these 2 LG phones still be okay in this year? I just need Whatsapp to work, mainly as nobody here really texts or call normally anymore. I’m not particularly tech-savvy, so I’d appreciate any advice! Otherwise, I might try to find a Xiaomi Qin phone, though those 2 phones are far easier for me to find rn.

honestly sir, it all comes down to personal discipline. I own 2 Android phones but I never have a problem of being buried in using them because I know my limits. I use it for calls, messaging, web based communication. KZfaq is my main social media platform. podcasts and KZfaq keep me entertained while working in the office or doing household chores with some music on the side.I don't care about The Metaverse coz it is toxic. TikTok is just a dumpster fire. gaming is done only in spurts. when I need to sleep, the phone is on the bedside table. so yeah, everything boils down to personal discipline. basic phones are for those who have no discipline or have very slim budgets.

@burkanx5546
@burkanx5546 Жыл бұрын
@@thecheeseman31415 Not bulky at all. I would say that the average smartphone is more bulky in due to width and length. This phone is similar in scale of a small brick phone of the late 1990s and 2000's. When I compare it to scale with my 96' Motorola Startac, the S22 is only slightly larger in scale. This phone does way more than the average flip phone/brick of the decades listed due to it's Mil-spec capabilities. You do not need a armored case for this cell as with other phones on the market as the shell of this phone is made like one from factory. The phone is dust proof, water resistant and, water proof. The battery cover is removable and, has a huge, thick gasket sealing around the battery cover to prevent water from seeping into the battery chamber. In more detail, the S22 is nearly the same length as the Startac-including the antenna. Both cellphones are nearly the same height when closed due to my startac's external, front facing battery. When the phone is flipped open, it is thicker than the startac of 96'.

at least i'm 100% sure that a 150$ dumbphone is a better option than a $150 smartphone, because of quality. also old smartphone in used condition, might be unexpensive, but because of planned obsolescence, purchasing a smartphone that already has served for years will NEVER lasts. or worst, explode because battery starts to be dangerous after few years. theses must be facts to consider when you refuse to spend 1500 dollars in a phone, no matter if it's a smart or a dumb one.

@@go-beyond_plus-ultra Yes. It does have some issues, including the time stamp one.i don't message much with it and just mentally adjust 3 hours. The web apps don't seem usable. I bought it to use with Tello just for pocket sized cell phone use. If you need it to something in particular it might not. Best to read a lot of reviews. Tello required voLTE which is sometimes iffy for me.

I'll think I'll pick up a "transition device" for when I go biking or shopping. I do have a DAP for music(work) and... Not much more, as it is expensive. I can't get it stolen. My smartphone gets in my way. It creeps me out, and it's big. I think the xiaomi still has the problem of 24/7 eavesdropping, but being small is progress enough. No way it's expensive as a Google pixel, right?

The Light Phone would be good for me IF they would bring whatsapp and some public transport app, where ich can check which bus or train I have to take to get to where I want to. Is there a phone that can do that? I ordered the Xiaomi F22 Pro but probably it will be just as addicting as my current smart phone.

The Light Phone has public transport via the directions app. Maybe something like the CAT S22 where you can customize things would be best for you. The Flip form factor is less distracting, but it works for the basics and a couple of apps.
