Whats up guys so I have been reviewing yoyos for a while here on KZfaq and I thought it was time to pay homage to the original worlds number 1 Duncan Butterfly hahhahaaha. Duncan even patented the word yo-yo so I figured I had to review this one. This is a fixed axel beginner yoyo made for basically your first beginner yoyo tricks. In response to the ending of your video, where you said that you remember the yoyo being different when you were younger: You shouldn't have thrown out the cotton string. Different materials have different uses. Polyester string is more smooth than cotton string, and as a result it does not have as much friction in the response system. This is good for modern unresponsive yoyos, but on older yoyos and responsive yoyos you need more friction than poly can provide. If you try the butterfly with a cotton string (like the one it came with) it will respond just fine. This is also why looping yoyos usually use 50-50 cotton-poly string instead of just polyester string.

It may just be the string that came with it. I remember now that the string that came with mine was pretty bad, so I made a cotton string like the way you did in your string making tutorial and it is perfectly responsive on that string. Love your videos by the way.

I didn't see any ufos or sleeping beautys for the string tension... Or wax for that matter. Are you sure you know how to operate this machine?

+Dylan Kowalski I have the exact same yoyo and the response is fine. A little more generous than an Imperial but not much, you can do some loop stuff and some man on the trapeze stuff, but not much. I wonder if it got a bit wonky when you pulled on it as if to open it up? or maybe that one is a dud? but mine and the one a friend has are not that loose at least.

I use poly string on mine, and it is a bit more slick but hardly unresponsive.

Duncan changed the design on this thing some time ago and I had both versions. If you can dig out a Butterfly with old white packaging and "made in USA" under the logo I'm sure you'll like it better. At least it has bigger starbursts so it is more reliable response wise.

Would have loved to see some fixed axle tricks! I spent some time one day learning a couple stalls and regens. The elements can carry over into unresponsive play with a lot of fun. The butterfly is still a super sick yoyo, it's not just for beginners.

I did the same thing, and put a poly string on mine and it became totally unusable. The starburst is quite small compared to a bearing yoyo so it can't grip on the polyester. The cotton string it came with was pretty fantastic and I got a good 6 hours of hard play before I broke it. The yoyo is pretty great but it absolutely has to have a cotton string.

The thing is the Duncan string is amazing string and it is pretty thick so I don't imagine the yo-yo would respond to a thinner polyester string

I got one of my own and either you got a bad one or I got a really good one because mine is responsive, I have no problems with looping and it will sleep on the same setup

I just pulled my daughter's apart to remove the knotted string just takes quite a bit of prying and yes I agree the string does slip very easily

I have that yoyo But the string wad glued on and it broke so I pulled it apart to remove the string and now I cant put it back

You are probably thinking of the yomega fireball. It is definitely a responsive "old school" yoyo from back in the day.

Its designed to play with the cotton string. They widened the gap a few years ago. I agree, less responsive, but if you use the cotton string, its pretty good for modern fixed axle stuff (stalls and whatnot). I'm surprised you didn't melt the poly string and fling the yo-yo into the wall.

I use polly string on my butterfly and it feels pretty normal. I mean a bit more slick but nothing like what they have. the butterfly XT on the other hand.....

Its not worth, trust me. ir spins less than 1 minute, it stops being responsive in a second and its so expensive, better buy something lke the yoyo orbis or the magic yoyo m002, yu can find them for 14$ and they're so great.

The Sage kicks ass. The bearing it comes with is crap, though. I swapped it out for a 10 ball gold bearing and it's now a beast. Crazy spin time for a plastic yo yo!

The yoyo isn't responding because you're using a poly string. Full poly string on a steel axle has way too little friction to come back. It's the only time to ever use a cotton string.

were i live (Chile) you can find only weird chinese yoyos. that yoyos with lights and music, i never see a duncan butterfly in any store. here is kinnda hard to buy yoyos and all that things. so it was hard to get started on yoyoing

I did a durability test with the Duncan butterfly and the imperial the Duncan butterfly is more durable. My durable test was WAY more crazy than yours are
