So I've been doing some research and it looks like there is no ecology ending, there is some kind of way to bug the game out and play in an unofficial "endless mode" but that's about it.
I've had the emperor in the past give me 255 days, that's normal (and many of my friends in 2004 got those sequence of events) but aside from that there is nothing but the final battle and to experience the end of the game.
So I'll just keep trying to play this game of moving ecology experts around the map every night while watching old Star Trek before I sleep until I finally give up and obliterate the Harkonnen ending the game.
