I played a 7-hour game last weekend and am just now discovering these videos - they are super helpful! I actually played as CHOAM in that game and found that allying with the Bene Gesserit to be extremely powerful. We were able to cheaply acquire Worthless Cards and either keep them as CHOAM cards or trade them into Karamas. We were also able to sculpt our hands via trades to essentially assassinate every leader we came across. Unfortunately we lost the game because my big stack was stuck in a city that I couldn't quickly use in another aggressive move, but the game was a lot of fun.

Great video. I'm excited to see more. I especially like learning about the design philosophy behind these factions and how it is rooted in the fiction.

Hi Jack! I got a question about spice dialing in advanced Dune. Can allies pay the spice payment for a full troop strength for their allies?
@jackredathewarp Жыл бұрын
Generally no. Emperor can give spice to their ally for anything, and CHOAM can pay their ally’s spice dialing. Other factions cannot.

If one of the special uses of Worthless cards is prevented by a Karama, do CHOAM discard the Worthless card without effect or keep it for future use? I've always thought that discarding without effect would be most logical, as your special effect gets cancelled by the special effect of a Karama, both cards effectively being "used" and thus discarded. But after rereading the faction sheet and asking around discord it seems that I very well may be wrong. It's also worth noting that if BG get Karama'd trying to use Worthless card as a Karama, they discard that Worthless card, as clarified in the FAQ. Are these two interactions of one card preventing the use of another card intended to be different?

CHOAM does have to discard if Karama is used on their special effects for worthless cards.

Good day! I just finished up a game as CHOAM And I have question about trading a worthless card for one of the abilities. Its probably a stupid question but, I got a nexus card that allowed me to use any treachery card as a worthless card in exchange for any of CHOAMS abilities. So I used it during a nexus phase to use it up and told the group id use it to move 1 more space during the upcoming shipment and movement phase. Fast forward to shipping and movement phase, I made my 1 extra movement. But then everyone said I had to have spent that CHOAM nexus card DURING the Shipping and Movement phase, and that I couldn't exchange the card during an earlier phase. I must wait until shipping and movement phase to make the trade. I believe the main CHOAM faction card states: At the end of any phase, you can either discard 2 copy cards for 3 spice, discard any worthless card for 2 spice, or discard a worthless card for one of the CHOAM abilities based on the type of worthless card. So my question is: Can I discard the card at an earlier phase, (say I discard a worthless card after a spice blow, and use it to get an extra movement during the upcoming movement phase) to use it during a later phase??? Or do I have to make the trade BEFORE or DURING That specific phase the card would be used???(both scenarios within the same round)

You do need to play the card at the time of the effect. There’s no kind of “We must remember to do x or y later on”, not without some kind of physical reminder (like CHOAM’s Token for Charity).

Can CHOAM use the Kull Wahad to prevent a player from purchasing a shipment or a treachery card?
@jackredathewarp9 ай бұрын
The player can’t play the karama, so whatever effect they were hoping to gain from it is no longer possible.

i love doing nothing for 4 turns while i build up my hand size and then playing double income on turn 5 then getting worthless karamad by bg so i do nothing on turn 5 and then turn 6 is cancel so i do nothing on turn 6 then i get worthless karamad again on turn 7 so no money still only to begin having the ability to play the game on turn 8 onward only to get stalled out by guild. TLDR bene gesserit is the hardest counter to choam you can ask for and if there is a bg in the game dont bother playing choam your life will be miserable.

I agree that Karama cards are a big weakness especially to CHOAM. (Although this is true for any faction, if played in the right moment) But overall CHOAM was so dominant in our games with their spice bank and unlimited revival and fighting capabilities, that I decided to house rule them (yet untested) that they just collect one spice per force. (cannot be increased) to give them at least one other weakness. I find it also thematic, that, since they are such a big shot company, they cannot be bothered to collect spice "normally" and thus harvest spice inefficiently. 😅 What do you think of this rule?
