@@Tyrantofthewind you must be trolling..."Star Wars shares many similarities with Frank Herbert's Dune,[16] including the desert planet setting with a moisture-based economy, spice smugglers, obese interstellar antagonists, and a mystical mind control-using sect with great influence over galactic politics - Herbert himself once enumerated 37 similarities.[17] The influence was even more distinct in early Star Wars versions, with Princess Leia guarding a shipment of "aura spice" instead of the Death Star plans. The script for Jodorowsky's Dune was circulating in Hollywood at the time of Lucas' early work on Star Wars" trhats from wikipedia for quickness and personally ....now in print I have read lucas mention Dune in Starlog when I was a kid and as an adult a tv interview he mention Ferank Herbert etc give me a break

@@mikalmos369 1) Moisture farming on a fucking desert planet? My god. Almost like being a DESERT PLANET would necessitate such a thing. And Dune's economy is not based on moisture farming it is based on Melange. They use moisture farming to survive. Tatooine is controlled by a crime syndicate. Their economy is based on illicit activity and mercenary work. 2) Herbert was insanely jealous of George Lucas success, and thought Lucas "stole" from him. He died shortly after the release of Return of the Jedi and the less than successful adaption of his own work. Lucas has never credited him with influencing anything. Both say they drew inspiration from Lawrence of Arabia - which is a movie set in a desert. A movie that stars Sir Alec Guinness...who was also in Star Wars. 3) Spice is a general term for drug you clown. Also, the desert planet in Star Wars is a backwater world of zero important whose most important figures are crime families. The most important figures on Dune are Houses fighting a war against each other. It is literally the most important planet in the universe while in Star Wars, Tatooine is left ASAP and is insignificant to the larger plot. Anything else for me to easily swat aside with reality?

I don't think of it that way despite the possibility that Herbert might have.... your oddly emotional reaction to some generic/clumsy but true quotes from wikipedia with sources noted wrapped in your attitude of holier than thou shows your obvious Lucas bias with no grounds or need to denigrate the other poster or myself. I had read all the dune books that were published at the time in 79. I was 9 with an extremely high reading ability for my age and had seen Star Wars 2 years previous(and had relatives working in hollywood at the time with insider information in the Lucas camp). I had a subscription to StarLog, Omni at that age and built a computer by age 10....do you really want to pull your crysknife on me...btw i also have a light saber of Star Wars knowledge that I am guessing supercedes yours because I didn't feel the need to wave it around rudely to express my knowledge(perhaps to make up for some inadequacy you feel) anyway say what you will or think what you think, but reality is never an opinion and anger/attitude is never a successful way to "win" a discussion that isn't a fight.

I’m always amazed when people who are not familiar with Dune watch this trailer and say they have no clue what it’s about after. People are so busy watching the visuals and recognizing cast members that they’re not listening to the dialogue which tells you pretty much everything about what the story is about 😂

Was so excited to see this reaction - and now I'm so perplexed. You're major league Star Wars fans and you know nothing about Dune????? I'm preparing myself for the "rip off of Star Wars" from people who don't know this came first. DUNE is the grandfather of Star Wars - it's the book that inspired George Lucas. It's the reason Tatooine is a desert planet. It's also at least a partial inspiration for Game of Thrones - except in this case the warring houses are in space - House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino, the Bene Gesserit, the Fremen, the Spacing Guild, the Suk, the Mentats... And I suppose you've used "the weirding way" to keep Calvin from revealing anything - what's so hard about the names??? - Leto Atreides, Lady Jessica, Paul Atreides, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Duncan Idaho, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Stilgar, Reverend Mother Mohiam, Doctor Wellington Yueh, The Beast Rabban (BTW all of these characters are in the trailer). Guys, for the first time I'm underwhelmed by your reaction.

I mean just take a look at the list of movies he did. It is beyond impressive! Blade Runner 2049, Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario and Arrival are all his films for the people who are not familiar with him. I recommend ALL of these movies, every single one of them is just amazing filmmaking!

There will be two movies for the first book, they've only shot the first part. Finally someone who has seen the miniseries! I vastly prefer it as a more accurate version to the 80s film. The dragonfly planes are called ornithopters, the idea is that they have flapping wings to fly. The nose tube is to collect moisture as you breathe out because the planet is so arid you have to collect ALL moisture. The animal trapped line is so good, from the book: "You've heard of animals chewing off a leg to escape a trap. there's an animal kind of trick. a human would remain in the trap endure the pain feigning death that he might kill the trapper and remove a threat to his kind."

Denis Villeneuve's version (part 1 and 2) will be the 3rd adaptation; the books that were written in the mid-60s, which are considered the greatest science fiction of all time, have influenced subsequent works, like Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Blade Runner, Hayao Miyazaki's anime film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, as well as Tremors, Beetlejuice and even Futurama. It's also inspired songs by Pink Floyd (covered by Hans Zimmer for this trailer and was supposed to be included in the never-materialized Dune from the 70s), Iron Maiden and Tool. Even Alien's HR Giger was impacted by the Harkonnen technology.

Denis Villeneuve is planning to split the story from the first book into 2 movies to make the movies as close to the book as possible. I also read that they are planning to make a mini-series. The mini-series will focus more on the story/world of the Bene Gesserit. Last but not least, I think they'll also release an animated series or movie.
