The Lord of the Rings is the seminal work that laid the groundwork for the future of Fantasy and Dune is considered the counterpart work that laid the groundwork for what would become science fiction.

I’m not a big Sci-Fi nut, but THIS movie melted my face off and OBLITERATED my fucking brain!!! This is a phenomenal film, one that’ll be talked about for decades to come, comparing it to other sci-fi flicks in the future. The bar has been raised in massive ways! Insanely gripping and beautiful. 9.5 out of 10 for me!

I saw an early preview last Sunday in IMAX……Loved it! Seeing it again tonight. I am a Dune fan, but it was better than I could even imagine. When I saw the initial reviews I thought it was getting overhyped and I was worried I’d be disappointed. That was not the case. This type of movie gives me hopes that the epic movie theater experience can bounce back. It felt good feeling blown away after seeing a movie. I haven’t felt that way in a long, long time. Good review Adam.

As I expected, I didn't really like part 1 but I expected it was that way to build up characters and the politics and part 2 would be more action based and action packed. It delivered. Might see it a second time in theaters actually. Definite recommended.

Funny you answered my exact question I had coming into this review. I was one of those in the minority that didn’t really enjoy the first one, I went in with high expectations hearing all of the praise it was getting. I thought it was beautifully shot, just didn’t fancy the pacing at all, and the story/action wasn’t resonating with me (watched it twice just to make sure). So I was curious if pt 2 would win me over. Still may give it a watch on demand but my expectation will be tempered this time. Glad the people who enjoy the book/franchise have something satisfying to experience though.

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!! YOU'RE THE ONLY youtuber who warned me about the SLOW PACE and TONS of dialogues part 2 was going to have... I thought part 2 would have a lot more action and less talking, a much more dynamic and interesting pacing, a LOT MORE ACTION this time around... GIVEN THAT THEY HAD us sit through all that EXPOSITION in part 1, I thought SURELY PART 2 will have LESS EXPOSITION and MORE action... NOPE :| For me even though everybody is singing the praises of dune part 2, I liked part 1 WAY MORE... and I can't deny the amazing visuals of part 2 and sound effects. Its definetly a watchable movie, but to be purely honest, I CARED ABOUT the characters WAY MORE in part 1 than I did in part 2...

Pretty fair review, although I'm a little "meh" on it just like after I saw Part One in the theater. (I enjoyed that more on 2nd or 3rd watch at home.) I'm a big fan of the 1984 Lynch version and, as big and loud and bambastic and amazing as everything is in this new version, I still think the brevity of the first film led to better ingenuity. I don't know which one is more "like the book" (I imagine the newer one is), but Lynch made a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle choices that made everything a bit more cohesive (especially the spiritual elements). I was surprised by how pronounced the Bene Gesserit were in this version. And I also really enjoyed Rebecca Ferguson's expanded role and superb acting. Overall, I just thought that as big as it was, some of it felt "rushed"... although by no means is this a 'fast' movie. I had to take a look at my watch at 90 mins in (and it felt like I'd already been in the theater the entire afternoon). Lastly, if you liked RPX, you really need to see this in IMAX. It's entirely framed in the expanded vertical IMAX ratio, and I'm sure the sound system beats RPX.

I agree. Not a masterpiece. Its a really good movie, but most of the characters were not well developed. Paul and Chani's love story was extremely flat, Rabban and Gurney's confrontation had no depth or payoff (though Brolin played Gurney beautifully), the Baron was literally made into a throw away villan, Lady Jessica went full Darth Vader with no nuance while turning her back on her order and teacher while utilizing the benefits of that order with basically no development of that arc. I think they did a good job with Feyd and actually fleshed him out, though at the expense of the Baron who was built up to be the big bad in Part 1. It's just all too messy to be a masterpiece. It feels like it needs an extended cut to better develop these characters, which isn't a good thing when they had 3 hours of runtime already.

Dune part2 was super awesome! To be honest, I don't like you being ignorant on purpose. (I also have a terrible memory, but it takes like 2 minutes to check if you don't remember.) Ignorance is not a virtue, and a man your age should not act nonchalant like this. The world already thinks Americans are ignorant and uncultured. Why reinforce this stupid cliche? You said you really liked it; it's one of the most important pillars of the sci-fi genre. You are making a review about it, but you can't be bothered to check the names of the second most important house, House Harkonnen, and a prime moover of politics in the universe, the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. I'm sorry for being quite harsh and pedantic, but I really like and respect you, and this bothers me. This attitude is beneath you. Thanks for the review Adam.

That’s a fair criticism and I will definitely have the names and locations at hand for the spoiler video. However, my approach to these reviews is meant to be conversational and raw. I like to imagine I’m talking to friends after the movie. It’s not intentional ignorance, it’s just my approach. You may not agree with it but I find I operate better off the cuff and not pausing to take notes every few minutes. Appreciate the feedback and again, when I do the spoiler video I will have my houses in order since it’s more important for the conversation.

It's not much of an adaptation of the book, and far looser than the first part. Not that the book was perfect, but neither is this movie, so not sure why so much of it was messed with. It's a good film in its own right, but a lot of the gushing praise is just too over the top.

Overrated. The people who think this film is a “masterpiece” are over selling this film. It’s funny: it appears to me that people like this film because if you are fortunate enough to watch this on an IMAX screen (bigger than most screens) with exceptional sound, the film is good - No. A film is good if you can watch it on an iPhone, let’s say an action movie, and it still excites you; a drama breaks-your-heart & makes you cry; and/or makes you think about what you watched, hours, after you finished the film. I’ve read all six books - one thru four twice - and the Dune story is not about action; which many people think this story is what makes it good. No. Because I’ve read the first book, twice, I know what’s missing & why this version of Dune is not a good representation of the story & plots of Dune. I like part 1 better. It’s closer to what I love about the book. And how lucky for, Denis, that he has the technology of CGI to bring a good looking film to the screen. It looks good - won’t deny that - Geidi Prime is my favorite section; after we leave that planet, I got bored. Honestly, the only actors who kept my attention was Charlotte Rampling & Lea Seydoux. Geidi Prime was the best part of the film. Butler kept my attention, while on the planet; on Arrakis, he didn’t. He became one note and boring. I like Chalamet & Zendaya. They gave what was needed. But as the movie bored me, so did the characters (and by extension… the actors). Adam. The way you can’t understand how people like “Barbarian,” and it makes your head explode (that you made two videos showing your dislike for the film) I’m here with my head 🤯🤯

Same here. It is okay maybe 8.5 out of 10. It is better than part 1 for sure. Part 1 was kind of pretentious and boring. I read the books. This is not at the level of Lord of the Rings. That was entertaining. Even the MI: Dead Reckoning was kind of boring.

Adam, while i absolutely loved the visuals, direction and action, id be remiss not to have a larger conversation around the 'white savior/messiah' trope. In all fairness, its the story of the book and its a good film. But, i cant help to think that we have so many 'neos' at this point, that its hard in 2024 to not ask, where is the Indian messiah? Where is the Asian messiah? Where is the Black messiah? While this theme is kind of explored in the movie, its a bit muddled as to whether it recognizes the propaganda or is a part of it. Id love a larger discussion/rant from you on the subject. Without making this a DEI thing, again it IS a good film. But, two things can be true. And in 2024, we simply have too much info at our fingertips to not unsee it.
@AdamDoesMovies

The "white savior" thing actually works brilliantly in this story though since it's manufactured worship. The women are the ones pulling the strings and making the moves, selecting the players that will benefit them the most.
@DjangoVonShaft
@DjangoVonShaft 3 ай бұрын
@@AdamDoesMovies there is an inherent danger to that thinking as it gives one an inflated sense of self. All the minority characters in the movie seem in need of saving, and Paul not only succumbs to the idea that he is some type of messiah, but that he is the end product of both sides of scheming ( ala Dems and Reps). I thought that the movie was most interesting through Chanis eyes, as one could argue, she represents the "woke". Those who question and see their messiah/savior inwards instead of outwards. I would argue that the world today is more Chani than Javier Bardems character. But, the movie leaves the dangers of worship/faith open ended and can reinforce propaganda by not commiting to a certain view. As a student of history I'm fascinated with propaganda in all it's forms as a tool of control. I'm also a POC.

@@DjangoVonShaftThe entire point of the book is too fear and question charismatic leaders. Paul is NOT the savior. He directly causes the deaths of 60+ billion people, the ruination of the Fremen people and culture, and initiates a ~3,500 year long tyrannical authoritarian dictatorship that represses all of mankind through the entire known Universe.
