This is going to blow up at the box office. It’s going to pick up awards, but I don’t care about the awards I care about how good it is and the first one was amazing the second looks like it’s going to usurp the first for best movie of this year and best ever Dune movie, way better than the original with Patric Stewart. The director perfectly captures the alluring mystique and the secrets contained in the desert and the inspiring beauty of the desert, he has been quite faithful to the book in that respect. He also captures the ancient culture of the Fremen that’s great. Frank Herbert would be happy with this version of Dune although there is also a lot of things he has changed but still what a work of art in its own right. I expect a huge box office hit and the next movie green lit because this is going to make a lot of money.

I cannot watch this in a theater. When I watched it the first time during Covid, I had to stop, Rewind, Replay, a hundred time. I had the CC on so that could catch the dialogue. I won't be able to do that in a theater. I'm going to have to wait until late summer when it premieres on the Corporate Mouse.

Dune's Arrakis lore was inspired by Islam. Much of Paul Atreides, the Muad'Dib is based on the Mahdi of Islam, and is even called Mahdi later. The Fremen fighters based on Muslim Mujahideen. Jihad fits, especially after the retaking of Arrakis.

@@domandred Thank you for the info! I had absolutely no idea about Dune before the first one came out, I did notice however terms and scenes that reminded me a lot about Islam. So this makes a lot of sense and just got me even more excited about the world of Dune! :O

In the book, from Paul’s first proper look into the future after the escape from the Sardaukar, it feels like the word jihad is mentioned every couple of paragraphs. Stopping the jihad, referring to the catastrophic holy war his Fremen wage across the universe in the name of their prophet, becomes one of Paul’s main motivations. The word is used even more in Dune Messiah, in which the jihad has already been raging for over a decade, claiming the lives of billions. In short, the word is very important in the books.
