The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on “Dune: Part Two,” the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning “Dune.”
The big-screen epic continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Wonka,” “Call Me by Your Name”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Malcolm & Marie,” “Euphoria”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning”), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Avengers: End Game,” “Milk”), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (“Elvis,” “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood”), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (“Black Widow,” “Little Women”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Thor: Love and Thunder”), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter,” “Hairspray”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Léa Seydoux (the “James Bond” franchise and “Crimes of the Future”), with Stellan Skarsgård (the “Mamma Mia!” films, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Being the Ricardos”).
“Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Villeneuve directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts based on Herbert’s novel. The film is produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Villeneuve, Tanya Lapointe and Patrick McCormick. The executive producers are Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, with Kevin J. Anderson serving as creative consultant.
Villeneuve is again collaborating with his “Dune” creatives: Oscar-winning director of photography Greig Fraser; Oscar-winning production designer Patrice Vermette; Oscar-winning editor Joe Walker; Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert; Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West. Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer is again on hand to create the score.
“Dune: Part Two” was filmed on location in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy. The film is slated for a March 15, 2024 worldwide release from Warner Bros. Pictures.

@@jcdenton7891 Considering Somnium was a short story written by Johanes Kepler that got his mother tried for witchcraft in the 1600s, and A True Story is an ancient Greek play, adaptations are highly unlikely. Foundation will likely get an adaptation one day, but foundation isn't action cinema so it probably wouldn't perform well. The entire point of the comment was satire pointing out the different narratives the literary sources pull from. Star Wars was very heavily based on the Novel Dune by Frank Herbert. Where Dune was heavily based on Isaac Asimovs Foundation & Empire series. And so on down the daisy chain

He is fascinated my middle eastern themes, as shown in his movie Incendies 2010 and Dune. As someone who has traveled to the ME. The setting, the garb, the use of Arabic and Muslim religious constructs throughout the film are groundbreaking. The resemblance of the Fremen people to the Bedouins is uncanny. The allusions to the Middle East are unmistakable, especially as the novel came on the heels of the oil boom in the Gulf states. Frank Herbert’s editors initially asked him to tone down the “Muslim flavor” of his book. Trying to avoid Herbert’s apparent insensitivity, the filmmakers actively subdued most elements of Islam, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The new movie treats religion, ecology, capitalism and colonialism as broad abstractions, stripped of particularity.

Visually and audibly, it was amazing but you can still tell how difficult it is to transition the story to film. Many scenes could’ve used more work by trimming shots in the first half of the film and lending more exposition to scenes we came to see in the last half. Especially Paul’s transition to the Lisan al Gaib, which I expected to be a lot more powerful. Timothy did a great job portraying his transformation but I was missing the visual piece to believe it. The first film was very good at adventurous story telling and world building as well as giving us Paul’s visions, which helped us see what he was experiencing. Paul drinking the holy water should’ve been a bit scarier, showing us the old memories to come inhabit his brain, possessing him. Also, why did he not use the Weirding Way? Especially against Feyd? Where were the Bene Gesserit abilities we came to see? Jessica felt more terrifying than Paul did. The major battle scenes could’ve benefited from having a few more shots as they seemed too quick to pass. I wanted to rewind the film to see it once more. The final event felt a bit rushed. Overall, the film was great for a general audience but for hardcore fans, I feel the first film was balanced better in making you believe the world you were temporarily suspended in. The second film felt more like a military film, which is fine and makes sense but it needed more strange and more scary. We certainly got that from the Harkonnen. I think I’m okay with Alia not being born and the change made to Chani feeling betrayed by Paul. I don’t understand why Thufir was cut. I don’t understand why Mentats were all but missing from the film.

An excellent example of Denis and his writer's adding just enough of what the Dune books were often lacking: simple human emotion. It's how you improve an already great story. I can't believe nobody has picked up on this yet so I will say it here. The scene shot from above as Paul moves through the huge crowd of Freman is a visual reference to him being the Kwisatz Haderach. In Dune part 1 Mohiam says "Like sifting sand through a screen we sift people". The scene from above resembles grains of sand with Paul sifting through them and being separate because he is the Kwisatz Haderach that the Bene Gesserit have been working towards all those years.

You thought Peter Jackson was faithful to the book??? And Blender guy? Saruman should've died outside Bagend after the battle of the shire, something Jackson didn't see fit to bother with. Jackson bastardised the whole thing for his own ego. Robbing every single main character of the integrity Tolkien created for them. If that's what you two think of Dune..? I'll give it a miss.

@@matejkacmar325 The gender swap was a non-issue. It actually interested me a little bit. She might have nailed the role, but the role itself was butchered long before they decided on what gender to cast. Removing what is easily the best non-Paul centered chapter from the story and what is still probably the best death scene in the entire series? Not cool. Leaving out the terraforming/worms/trout/spice connection is crazy. The first movie doesn't do nearly enough to show how integral Kynes was to the Fremen. And lastly, pretty much the thesis statement of the entire series "No more terrible disaster could befall your people than for them to fall into the hands of a Hero" will that ever be spoken? Come on... You can't dismiss criticism by pretending it's all because of a gender swap. The swap didn't mean none of that couldn't happen. If you read the book, you know how important it is. The role Kynes played in the story was butchered. The actress did fine with what she had. She should have had more.

And then I was blown away by how perfectly cast every person was. The only disappointment for me was finding out at the end that it's just part 1, but I get it, it's a LOT to cover. I hope they cover more than the first novel, but at the same time, if they go too far into the books, things get so weird. 😅
