One thing I found among friends was confusion. In the mini series there were subtle explanation. Example: Dr Yui’s recorded lecture, the introduction explaining the spice, etc. The movie kinda goes with the idea that you already know what is going on.

⁠@@watchtowerfilm8608 I had no idea what it was about, aside from sandworms, spice and a desert planet, and I understood it just fine. Things became even clearer with a second viewing. I appreciate the minimalist approach to exposition, opting to allude to things instead of stating them. Unless it’s necessary, like explaining why spice and sandworms are so important, and even those are given an in-universe reason because they’re the filmbooks Paul is studying.

I never understood why movie creators/directors/etc. create these scenes where one cannot see. If I wanted to not see, use my imagination, I would read a book or listen to an old Radio Broadcast or audiobook. Occasionally, one come across a Director/etc. whom creates enough light so the audience can see what the hell is going on, ergo actually enjoy the reason one went to a movie in the first place. This is just an example of bad directing etc.. I thought that the movie was very good, definitly not excellent, superior, etc..

Yes, as far as I know, the Lynch version of the sandworm is the same look & aesthetic from the book covers of the original novel in the 1960's & 70s, which means the Lynch sandworm is a little more accurate than the Harrison & Villeneuve models. We will have to wait a few more decades to see what the next version will look like when Dune is re-adapted for the 4th time. 04/20/24

The gold plated taps (faucets for our american cousins) set design always irked me in Alan smythee's version :(

The acting was corny at times and the costumes… let’s just say more money would not have helped that..

@@RashaKahn I agree with you on the costumes, but some of the performances were actually really good! Ian MacNiece was excellent as the Baron!! The actress that played Irulan was also quite good!! The actress who portrayed Chani was pretty bad however!!

Better costume design based on more current futuristic designs would be better (say, costuming inspired by _Star Trek: TNG_ and also _Star Trek: Enterprise_ [the Starfleet uniforms from either show.])
