True. But the box/torture scene seemed to be sprung on Paul!

Yea its super cinematic and cool and metaphorical and they're Bene Gesserit. They're the product of 10,000 years of breeding and training. Today we have Wim Hof, pi memorising champions, super tasters etc. in 22,000 A.D. we would have plenty of time to breed and train superhuman abilities. Dune is all about how powerful the human mind and body are, and about the fact that power is almost entirely the product of human will combined with human level consciousness. That is science and self control put to purpose to produce unbelievable yet physically possible results. These two could hear a needle drop while a techno raving plane takes off. And they're standing in the mists of time, the future is unclear and so is the present. They're alienated from one another, and they cannot clearly see one another either (although their top 0.0000001% eyes probably can). Going further, its water, a vital theme of Dune. Water is life. Water is everywhere on Caladan. These people are rich beyond measure. We don't have to doubt for a second all this was on Denis' mind when creating this. It's blatant visual storytelling and communication of mood and meaning through pure image. 0 dialogue needed. Pure cinema. Anyway, the shot of Paul's shadow in the mist is just so fuckin dope. The sublime that Part 1 captures could never be done better.

The Bene Gesserit are a very cool idea. They provide a plausible way to create prophecy, religion, and superhumans! The shots in this movie are awesome!
