@@tearay1073To be fair, in the context of this world and his race, he’s a Middle Aged divorced man, father of 3 daughters. He might be 29 but he’s still oldest or second oldest in the group in terms of maturity, often described as a 40-ish year old man, since Half-Foots live for about 50 years give or take.

Just a little tidbit about Laios’ “cooking book” I find hilarious: in the fanbook it’s revealed that it’s actually not a real guide made for adventurers but more something like a children’s book. So laios’ plan before meeting senshi was the equivalent of trying to survive in the jurasic era with one of those ‘all you need to know about dinosaurs’ books for children

I tried to calculate all their ages using the maturity age of each race and comparing them to the human (apparently 25) (including tall men, because they're not the same as human, at least their ages), and it seems like Laios is 40, Falin is 35, Senshi is 70, Chilchuck is 51 (old man lol), and I wasn't sure how to do Marcille's, so I divided the sum of the tall men and the elf and divided it by two, with that I got that she's about 26 years old, but I'm not really sure about that :v

@@Vallderius I’ve heard that Marcille is 50. I’ve also read a few times that both Laios and Falin are in their 20’s with Laois being 26 and Falin 23.

Espero que KZfaq te traduzca esto porque tardo menos que poniéndolo en inglés. Básicamente he hecho una regla de tres usando como base la edad de madurez humana (25) y comparándola con la de cada especie (tall men 16, half-foot 14, dwarves 40…) (esa información está en la wiki) y luego la de cada personaje con x. Que se ha quedado algo así (esto es de Chilchuck por ejemplo) 29 --- 14 X --- 25 X = (29•25)/14 = ~51 He hecho eso con todos los personajes para sacar sus edades, por eso me salen distintas las edades de Laios y Falin a las que en teoría son canónicas, porque la edad de madurez y la esperanza de vida de los tall men son distintas a las de los humanos.

Chilchuck's voice actor uses the exact same voice they use for Chilchuck in a different thing... except with an accent. its fucking horrifying to hear American Floofty. Chilchuck is my favorite forever

He actually had 3 daughters with his ex wife and then they got divorced once all 3 were old enough to live on their own. I think more specifically the wife initiated the idea of divorce or smth originally but it was a mutual decision. I think they had the first daughter when they were pretty young and got married afterward, so the marriage may have been one of convenience, but I don't fully remember all the details. cant be 100% on all of this but the first sentence it def correct I believe

Question Maybe its just the translators, but in the manga Chilchuck is consistantly called Chilchack and Falin, Farlyn. What's up with that?

the translators mentioned that they spelled it how they thought it would be translated up until the author ryoko kui confirmed how it is supposed to be spelled. it gets corrected later on

The most painful was Thristle which often get spelled as Sissel. The problem is when in Japanese, character names even if they are western in origin, are written in japanese spelling. An example would be Frieren and Alyssa, in Japanese it becomes Frie-len and Aris-sa. This mostly gets resolved overtime either due to the author's, publisher confirmation or general concensus.

In Japanese, Falin is "Farin". In my experience, translators often struggle to tell if Japanese "L" and "R" sounds are accented or intentional. This is especially true for Western-styled anime names, which tend to have an L and R in there. A good example is "Carol Olston" from Tomo-chan is a Girl, which pronounced and written as "Kyaroru Orusuton". Moving on, the Y in "Farlyn" was probably just a guess, referencing English names. Hypothetically, Falin could also be spelled "Falynn" or "Faline". Chilchuck is "Chiruchakku" in Japanese. The translators were evidently able to tell "ru" and "ku" were accented. But Japanese doesn't have an "uh" sound, so figuring that out would be tricky. So, with what they had, they came up with "Chilchack".
