I imagine male sprites being able to fly and holding icepick sized rapiers and tiny bows wearing armor made from mantis chitin complete with mantis eye flight goggles exept the flight captain who can be identified by a dragonfly helmet and butterfly tailcoat and they let their hair grow out; female sprites being flightless weilding dagger sized buster swords and wearing rhinoceros beetle armor except the captain who can be identified by a helmet made from the head of a hercules beetle(bigger horns) and a rainbow scarab shield, their hair is shortly cropped.

Thank you for taking the time to present all of this info. Very interesting! I am running a campaign and one of my players is running a hideous fairy character who doesn't know his background. I made his mother a boggle and his father a sprite. Good stuff.

my heart can not lie. I love the dungeoncast. don't need to be interrogated by sprites to admit that. anyway I had a character idea I was looking for thoughts on. it doesn't matter much since I can't play d&d anyway but here goes. my idea is for a dwarf character I don't know what class he'd be or what his main weapon of choice would be but I imagine him as a witcher like character. he'd have his own business where people hire him to slay monsters. the main idea for this character is that for him planning is 75% of the battle. being absolutely prepared for battle and coming up with unique or clever approaches to taking down monsters. for example say he's hired to hunt down a colony of mind flayers in the underdark. I imagine he'd bring several bottles filled with various kinds of oozes. since illithids can't detect creatures with no intelligence he'd release the slimes and oozes into the colony to cause chaos for the illithids while he sneaks in to take out the elder brain. I imagine for weapons he'd have a silver weapon on hand for dealing with monsters weak to silver. for flying creatures perhaps a powerful crossbow he uses like a sniper rifle almost to shoot stuff out of the sky. and on his left wrist he'd have a device mounted to his wrist that looks kind of like a mini cannon of sorts which when fired shoots out silver pellets like a shotgun blast which he normally saves for when he's pinned down and needs to force a monster off of him. I hope anyone who sees this idea enjoys it and I'd love extra ideas and thoughts. have a nice day! :)

DORIAN Robinette That sounds like a cool character! You could probably make that character a ranger with the archery fighting style, and go either hunter or monster slayer for your archetype and pick up the crossbow expert feat so you can make more than one attack with a crossbow and can attack at point blank range if you need to

Scholar if your doing homebrew classes, but it seems like it's more of an rp thing and youd have to talk to your DM about if you have one, or just whenever you get into a town you start asking questions about alchemy shops and stuff and make loads of investigation checks along with asking the dm what you know about the enemies and they should ask for nature or history checks etc

QQ I just rolled my first character ever bc I found a place that runs DND by me and my first roll was a 15,17,7,15,15,15 and I was instantly like ( everyone is going to think this is strait b.s, I can't run these stats) so I decided I need to roll again so I did and got a 13,14,9,16,14,14... Which is some how worse but then I was like ( I shouldn't re roll just to roll bad stats to make me seem like I'm not lying) how do you roll stats by yourself on a new character w/o seeming like you're lying??? Btw never played DND before, this was my first character ever

Actually no... I can't really speak to their role in d&d... But the fair folk in actual real world folklore have been super bastardized into these little creatures by Disney. In reality the fair folk and all Celtic traditions are incredibly powerful sometimes they're old gods ,sometimes they're the old gods before the old gods, sometimes they're the fallen Angels who turned against Satan after the fall. They often make themselves look like small men mostly so as to show mortals that they are not of them but also not intimidate them to their degree that they cannot interact with them. Other times they're tall beautiful people in ornate robes. And usually it's even worse to see them in this form because they don't give a damn if you're intimidated. There's a lots of stories in Ireland of them killing priests in this form. Usually questioning whether or not they will be allowed back into heaven upon the end of time. They asked the priest because they know the priest have studied such things that have been passed on from Christ. The answer is always no, or it's indirect if the priest is smart. Upon hearing no the fair folk usually fly into a rage and pull the priest pieces or spirit in the way to torture him for centuries or thousands of years or God knows time is different for them. An hour can be years and years can seem like days. They're called the fair folk or the good people or the little people or the Gentry because they don't like to be talked about and to actually say their name is to risk them hearing you and coming to see what you are saying or what you want. You always speak about them respectfully or not at all. They punish insults, even accidental ones, they especially punish intrusion into their affairs or claimed territory. Punishment can be anything from making it so your chickens don't lay eggs, or killing your entire family, or spiriting away, or driving the mad, or making them sick... Basically whatever suits them, they can even take away a talent. There's a hierarchy within them. The leprechaun perhaps the most bastardized of all the fair folk with the exception of the Tinkerbell things, is the Brewer of the fairfolk. The leprechaun didn't have gold at the end of the rainbow I'm not really sure what that came from, he was comparatively fairly weak amongst them, still quite capable of destroying a human life. There's also a shoemaker whose name escapes me and some stories people have mixed up with leprechauns, this is also true with brownies which is a type of fairy that usually helps out around the home as long as things are fit for them. Basically it's kind of a payment for letting them stay with you. Either way it was always best just to leave them alone, they were powerful and could harm you. It's noteworthy that leprechauns probably amount to less than 1% of the Celtic ferry stories even the Irish ferry stories and yet it's probably the most famous. I guess people at Disney or in storybooks don't think kids want to hear stories about the Gentry stealing children or killing priests or experimenting away women on May Eve on a horseback. I can honestly say as someone who's played d&d for about a year and a half I know of no creature in d&d that it's actually on the same scale of power of the good folk especially the higher good folk. There's nothing even remotely similar and power, again and some stories they have all the powers of an Angel or a lesser God.
