Stop! Grammar time. :) It's fun to see how people's real-life professional background makes their way into their crafting patter. Sometimes, it's clear that Jeremy is a carpenter, Wyloch is some kind of nuclear engineer or something, and PDM is a teacher. Keep being awesome.
@jherazob
@jherazob 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, you know that Jeremy has the instincts of a carpenter by how he does things, that trick to do straight lines on material without tools was very telling, Wyloch is very engineerish, so is Jim but you can tell it's not the same field, and PDM feels like the kind of stern but fair teacher on college. The one i can't nail is the CraftFather himself, he's too... unique :D

I thought the Gorilla glue recommended was a different type - a white gungy stuff. Also, I wonder about what XPS foam you are using, because those rollers work fine on mine, except where the foam has a crust on its surface.

Standard Gorilla Glue is opaque yellow. The pink foam is tougher in the US than the blue XPS in Europe--which I would LOVE to get.

@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 But that's not the Gorilla glue that BMC tested kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j6l5jLCHtLOmo6M.html - Jeremy used the white gunge. I also use pink and black XPS, and they work fine for me, as long as I remove the crusty outer. Possibly you demand a deeper level of imprint. I didn't much like the Gorilla glue when I tried it, however, because when you cut through it with a hot-wire, it would end up standing out proud of the cut surface. Hot wire cutting was not an issue for you. I may try the type of Gorilla glue you used one day.

I made shelves that look almost like yours! I made mine with some that were a bit deeper and taller to fit the huge minis. I made 4 sets of these shelves, but now converted a room to my gaming room and bought Billy shelves from Ikea and the glass shelf inserts. So now all my minis and terrain are on the same type of shelving. These foam shelves are super easy to make and used them for several years :) I did use the greenstuff rollers for the pattern, its not super pronounced, but painting grey and drybrushing you totally see the brick pattern, you just have to push the roller into the foam really hard to get it to show up. I wore leather gloves to save my hands, pushing the roller that firmly into the foam hurts your hands, and I made 4 of these types of shelves rolling 3 side of each shelf and the front of the back.

I made something like that some time back, though it wasn't this elaborate. What I added later on was a layer of thin sheet metal in every shelf, as my miniatures had little magnets in their base. It's really annoying if you chip the paint job of 20 minis just because you bumped into the shelf. The other thing I added was a piece of plexiglass on hinges to prevent dust from collecting on the mini. Otherwise you made a very beautiful miniature display there.

Besides, I can always use child labour for all the detailing (3 kids) and, like you, a wife who is an engineer who can help with all the math and physics. One thing to take advantage of the GSW rollers is to use them as directed, on putty. The trick of course is to not use actual Green Stuff, that would cost a fortune, but DAS clay is far more than good enough for cobblestones/bricks/whatever, a thin sheet of it over the XPS would do the decorations well enough, and adhere well with tacky glue, and a single brick costing you two bucks would be far more than enough. Maybe trying with Scotty's cold porcelain recipe too would be worth a try. Now i might actually have to try and see if i can make my own shelves :D

Not sure I'd go with foam on this kind of project. Almost half of my collection is metal, and Balrog, Felbeast or anything large wouldn't fit and I'd be scared to death the foam wouldn't hold the weight. Then there's the dust that they'll collect in this open shelf situation. My husband has carpenter skills, so he'll make a hanging cabinet with glass doors. I'm definitely inspired by these themed shelves and would incorporate scenery that we can switch out as well, so it'd need to be deeper and a few definitely higher. The smaller spaces between are definitely a good idea though.

First note, the foam and felt tacky glue isn't intended for the type of foam you're using. It's a more flexible end result that's intended for the soft, rubbery craft foam and various cloth things that might be glued together for projects, not the insulation foam that works great for carving. The end result isn't as good for solid objects unless you're working on them in conjunction with one of the other things. It's relatively strong, but not as good there as the other. Secondly, the Cobblestone Mats you cut up for it, those weren't "Village Accessories" as a maker, it's Department 56...took some looking to actually find them. It is their Village Accessories line which is for the Christmas Village display things that are popping up. They do look like they'll be useful for making some roads though. The other things I'm commenting on here are more of either improvement options or just ways to deal with it. One thing you probably ought to do with this is to add a lip to the fronts of the shelves. The easy way to do it would be to take the cheap craft sticks and put them along the edge and glue them in place along it. It tends to take far to little of banging to have things topple from shelves. It just keeps your nicely painted minis far safer. The other would be to expand on the poplar part, it's not to hard to make a shallow box for the outer part of it and then fit in the shelves. There's a lot of large shadow box blanks that you can buy that are basically that at hobby lobby and other large craft/hobby stores that include such things that are made that way with less attention to lining things up. If you have any skill with woodworking, you can upgrade those quite a bit further beyond that as well. You could still glue dollar store foam core over it to pattern the backgrounds there. Even if you want to use foam, you can end up with a major disaster if someone bumps into it if the outer edges are because it'll still break up far more easily and then the entire thing tends to come apart on you in irreparable ways...the foam construction also heavily limits the minis you can store on it. If the minis have a lot of the older, metal ones, you really need something sturdier because heavier ones can bend the foam and some weigh enough to break through the sealing if on a more normal base to then start damaging the surface and weaken the entire thing.
@EmeraldVideosNL
@EmeraldVideosNL Жыл бұрын
Definitely was also thinking about the weight issue. I have many metal miniatures that I wouldn't dare to store on this type of shelf. Not taking into account some of those models are way too tall for this shelf to begin with.

@Dungeon Craft Hi Professor !! I have a HUGE QUESTION which could serve you for creating a new video about it !! **VERY RELEVANT QUESTION** When preparing for a new campaign with a totally new crew (regardless of their DnD experience) ; HOW do you sifter and filter through their applications ? Related - - Do you have a specific procedure to select some people as your new players at the table ? **Here is what the game will be about** ; (insert the setting, and DM's rules) - - PLEASE FILL IN YOUR APPLICATION TO BE PART OF MY GAME TABLE. Did you ever use an ''application form'' to measure the level of seriousness of your players ? Do you recommend to do so ? How do you deal with a player who leaves the table after 2 or 3 sessions ? Do you know anybody who did that ? (I do) Also if you want to answer these (surprise-bag of questions): 1 - How to you keep the ''min-maxers''/ power-players at bay ? 2 - What if one person always wants to play the exact same character type ? 3 - What if a player brings a 5 page long massive backstory for his character and then complains that ''his'' story / the story doesn't unfold ''fast enough'' after 2 sessions ? 4 - What if 98 % of the people online only want to play 5th Edition but your setting is something more rustic and more old-school...How do you find your players online ? 5 - Is there a Dungeon Crawler-exclusive community ? Do you know a community who is really focused on Dungeon Crawling ? THANK YOU SO MUCH PROFESSOR DUNGEON MASTER ! Your work is highly inspiring ! I regularly share your videos !

I can print that while I sleep for about $17.00 and spend 15min painting it. If you guys STILL haven't bought a 3D printer, you are losing money and time.

@@williamjohnson4497 No, sorry. No time to create them and create new content every week. This was my least viewed video out of the last ten, so I can't spend any more time on it.
