I like how you went into more detail as to why dwarves dislike elves and the fact that elves are one of the most destructive races. Yet they behave as if they are infallible.

I think that is an unfair statement: the most populace race of elves in Faerun exists almost just to point out how fucked up their old empire was and doesn't want anything like it back. Wood Elves are fine, Sun Elves are dicks.

Until today, I never considered it much; but a dwarf at the forge, pounding away at a lump of steel is most likely praying. Human friend: "Whatcha making?" Dwarf: "I don't know, yet." Epic.

I mainly think of Dwarves as craftsmen. They may be good at warfare, brewing and survival in general, but they excel at stone/metalwork. I remember seeing Moria in LoTR and thinking "Yup, they got that perfect". Massive caverns carved by hand and magic. Giant stone-slab doors, filigreed with gold and other precious metals. Forges that never go cold as masterwork weapons and armor are constantly being produced. I always liked the idea of odd character classes for Dwarves too, like Druids and Rogues. Not every Dwarf needs to be a Fighter or Barbarian. I recall some Dragon Magazine issue that talked about Dwarf Rogues called "Mountain Ghosts".

You missed one of the dwarf subraces where all of them tend to lose a lot of their beards other than the Dueregar, the Seacliff Dwarves where the females are less likely to have any at all and the males tend to start sparce and the most facial hair you tend to see with them are some goatees... Of course, they heavily diverge from the normal dwarven culture to the point where they aren't dealing with forges as much, and tend to be lighter than the average dwarf taking to the seas and boat work...and have an alcohol resistance that, well, dwarfs the other subraces because that tends to be the on thing that unifies the sailor and dwarf parts, so they tend to brew things that most races have to make checks from the fumes...because dwarves...

Power Word Hair is an ancient dwarven binding spell which incapacitates an opponent by causing them to produce epic and unwieldy hair with a growth rate of 1' per level of spell caster per round. A spell first perfected dwarven dragonmaids who tend the dragons bound to dwarven kingdom forges. The hair growth tangles the limbs of the target and imobilizes them.

Was the stone like bread that the Dwarves make introduced before or after the works of Sir Terry Pratchett & his idea of Dwarven Battle Bread, a bread so hard it could be used as a semi-improvised weapon? Who can forget his anti-personnel crumpets, or anti-carvery baguettes. I remember Pratchett's female Dwarves are often so bearded that many other races are ignorant of the fact that there ARE females, it doesn't help that most on Discworld see gender as something that you don't share with someone until after the first date. God I miss that brilliant author.

Hey man flawless victory. Great video. I cant wait to see the next o e on dwarves. I wanted to say I've been thinking about them recently. I was thinking about dwarves religiously at the furnace making things. It's such a staple of their culture through there family and religion. If working together is a paramount virtue. I imagine they would fall into a rhythm of working to gather and there family forge would sound like a drumline with different percussion. Songs for different days or holidays or even different weapons. Each family or clan or city would have different forge songs and beats like different temple styles of kungfu. Thanks again man

“Where your Greek with pride.” I would but my toga’s at the cleaners and that place weirds me out. There’s these eerily realistic statues of what look like past customers in the lobby; swear I’ve heard the sounds of hissing and shifting from under the hat of the person normally at the counter; and I think there might be a permanently drunken employee in the back having sexual relations with a goat based off some the sounds I occasionally hear.

Dwarves potters made the finest vases in the realms. Hold on, hear me out. Dwarves are men of fire and earth. Digging clay, one of the most overlooked materials in the world, then turning it into precious works of art is the domain of a dwarf. Clay is dug out of the ground. Additives are carefully added to get the colors and consistency the dwarf wants for that particular piece. Then the dwarves craftsman adds or subtracts water and shapes it on the spinning wheel. When he has it in the shape he desires, he adds details with specialized tools. He then ages it until it is dry and ready, and places it in a kiln to bake with a fine glaze. Dwarves should be famous for their magnificent pottery, just as much as their steel and their stone. Don't leave Mithral Hall without one of Daren Spadehand's brew mugs, crafted with skill and attention in the brewer's halls, it forever carries the heady, earthy scent of brewing dwarven ale.

The finest pottery in the realms is created by the Pech, a little known but common humanoid race of the Underdark with the ability to shape earth and stone with their bare hands.
@Klancer2
@Klancer2 Жыл бұрын
@AJ Pickett Neat! They're probably all but unknown on the surface, but I bet they're amazingly popular in the underdark. That said, I still bet dwarves are still well known for their pottery, especially aboveground. Lots of races would make good potters, but few are as obsessive over their craft as dwarves. I would love to see a video on the Pech! That sounds like a fascinating race to visit and explore! It's always amazing how one ability, "Able to mold earth and stone with their hands" can change a race's entire feel.

1.) Did Moradin use soles from the soul forge as raw material to make dwarf souls or dose he make them whole cloth? 2.) Why do more gods/goddesses not do this? 3.) Where did Moradin come from before the dwarves? 4.) Is the ability to capture moonlight a special thing from Moradin or can a true master do other physics defying things? 5.) Dose that mean that they were not enslaved by giants, or the duergar by mind flayers? 6.) Do we know what life the first duergar made, or how they became a race (as opposed to the one guy)?

Just as an observation, I will point out one small difference between D&D dwarves and Tolkien dwarves. As far as I know Tolkien’s version did not farm of grow any food, but rather buying food from Men and some times Elves if they had to. On the other hand it seems like D&D dwarves do farm livestock and crops. From a narrative standpoint does make the able to be more independent and less dependent on outside trade.

When it comes down to dwarven steel, there is not comparisons, none I cal tell you, sure the elves have their enchanted forges and the fire giants have their great magmatic furnaces, but dwarven steel my friends forged by the hands of a master runesmiths on their elemental, primal forges and anvils, is nothing short of miracles made flesh, or in this case metal, Dwarves do not use magic, they have no use for it, but they can channel the raw primal power of the elements and arcane into the metals weaving them during the forging and hammering them in place on their anvils, all done by master runesmith, but the metal at its core is were things get interesting, while not all dwarven metal works have a natural magical infused alloyed, the metals used in their weapons and armor are the result of an amalgamation of volcanic mineral being fused together, this is the reason why dwarven-steel never seem to rust, nor lose its edge, but things get even better when actual enchanted alloyed is used along with their runes, I have seen runic axes cut down a giant, a shield taking a spell blast from soccer or armor that can withstand illusions and temptations of demons,

Let it known, as true as their craft, that they are a prideful race but it is not founded on false pride. Nothing stands taller than the might of the Dwarves! With axe or hammer at hand, when the battle rages, let your beards flow!

Jeez, it sounds like making a dwarf a half-dragon would just be overkill then, in terms of survivability. I can't remember your exact opinion on wether or not all half-dragons have that elemental ability to digest even inorganic substances, but I figured that would just be nuts if combined with the dwarves natural ability to handle rougher foodstuffs. Edit: Then there's the additional offensive abilities that they would garner, which would just be gravy.

I much prefer the dwarves in the LOTR . Not the way Gimli was destroyed in the films, and turned into the walking joke they are in the R A Salvatore books. A dwarves love of gold in any of my games. Is based on the fact you can rework it many many times and it will still remain intact. The gold you have in your ring say, could well have been worked into many things before it ever reached you. A lb of gold will always be a lb of gold no matter how many times you smelt it. This is not that common among metals, and would appeal to a Dwarves sense of permanence .

You mean the greedy dwarves of Tolkien? So greedy they woke up a balrog of morgoth just so they could possibly find more milthril? Or the greed of dwarves that almost brought a war in the North when thorin refused to give a fair and proper share of gold that wasn't all his to its owners? Those greedy dwarves? And that is how they are portrayed in the books greedy and ignorant. They didn't know to say no to sauron so needed Elronds advice. D&D's dwarves would have smashed the messenger of sauron and sent his wrecked face back as a response to such an affront to their honor. Salvator doesn't decide how dwarves are in D&D just those dwarves. And even then not all of his dwarves are idiots or buffoons like you seem to think. How to spell his name is escaping me right now but their is a dwarven king that has been brought back to life a couple of times and founded kingdoms then passed the crown on to some one else. Tolkien has something similar and when a dwarf is born that looks like their first king he is made king no matter what. Compare and I think Salvatores is wiser and less greedy

@@chriswilder9719 You mean the Dwarfs in a world with the one ring and the seven rings for the dwarf lords? You know the rings that almost lead them to their doom. Even the elven rings are being corrupted, or would be if they were used and not hidden away from the mortal world. When Galadriel is talking to Frodo and Sam and almost succumbs to temptation. It isn't just the one ring, it`s also the one on her own finger (Nenya) which is working on her mind. All the rings are after all tied up with the one ring and the will of its maker. By your own logic all humans should be lawful evil since all the humans given the nine rings became wraiths and many human cultures fight alongside the dark lord. So punching things is wiser than seeking the advice of pretty much the smartest person anybody could seek advice from. The person they all went to , to figure out what to do with the one ring. Hmmm much wiser to engage in dumb childish actions that will do nothing but tip you enemy off right away to what you`re doing and what side you are on. Yeah just punch it then drink mead and make jokes about bearded women. Btw remind me again how bruenor battlehammer ( you know, the dwarf you don`t even know the name of or couldn't be bothered looking up) lose his hold ? Well lets see shall we. Shimmergloom's Reign. Towards the end of the 1100s DR, the deepest mines carved out by the dwarves of Mithral Hall broke into a shadowcavern. The cavern was said to be linked to the Plane of Shadows. An immensely powerful shadow dragon named Haerinvureem (known as Shimmergloom) was subsequently released into the mines. The dragon, who later became known as Shimmergloom, was aided by hordes of shadow creatures and a whole clan of duergar. The loyal dwarves stood and fought allowing the few not strong enough the opportunity to flee. Among those that escaped was a young Bruenor Battlehammer. The dragon ravaged Mithral Hall slaying thousands of dwarves. Thibbledorf Pwent was one of the few dwarves that fought in the battle and survived, although he was presumed dead for quite some time. Bangor Battlehammer and his father Garumn Battlehammer died in the battle slaying hordes of Duergar. As they died their surrounding area was probably cursed as their bodies and possessions remained untouched centuries later. Oh so pretty much the exact same way as in the lord of the rings .... Salvatore`s such an original writer where does he get these ideas from? No offense but I have been reading both lots of books for well over 30 years. Just punching stuff etc isn't wise. It`s childish and dumb. Hey it`s Friday night so just pay your local A&E a visit.

In the LotR movies, gimli got fucked. The Hobbit films sucked but weren't too bad narratively to dwarves. Tolkien's treatment was way cool. As for R.A. Salvatore...as with everything he writes, the stuff that is good (about dwarves) is indispensable, the stuff that's bad is just obviously lazy.

I mean...Salvatore dwarf NAMES generally suck. Tho "Bruenor Battlehammer" is a GREAT dwarf name. All that to say, i generally give salvatore's depiction of dwarves, in general, like a B+ P good on the whole. That said, I'm overall still a Tolkien loyalist, on the subject.

PIERCER & ROPER (Continued from Scarecrow Video) _Theme Music Starts_ _Piercer & Roper logo pops on screen_ Announcer: “Last time on Piercer & Roper!” _Flashback montage starts_ “Our boy’s in blue listened as the Derro Dust Dealer divulged the location and identity of his supplier, a Svirfneblin Alchemist, named Snipdik, who runs an apothecary in Downtown Menzo. With this information, our duo was ready to set off across town so Piercer called called in a squad car to pick up their perp...” _Screen goes black_ _Scene starts with a large and imposing but young looking Bugbear in an MZPD uniform holding a familiar handcuffed Derro 5 feet of the ground as he walks to his squad car and gingerly throws him in the back seat them slams the door before turning around._ Officer Khurguuhul: “Hope you two didn’t rough up the little guy too bad.” _Grins knowingly at Roper_ Roper: “YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES!!! NO ONE EVER WANTS TO TALK UNTIL YOU SCARE 50 SHADES OF SHIT OUTA THEM!!! ANYWAYS, I OWE YOU A ROUND AT LIISHUH’S FOR THE PICK UP!!!” Officer Khurguuhul: “You owe me a couple Roper. If my uncle knew that you were out here shaking down Derro without running your operation by him first...well let’s just say I’m gunna need more than a drink if he finds out that I’m covering for you again. Good luck guys. Go get that son of a bitch.” Roper: “SARGE IS ALL BARK, DON’T WORRY. HE WON’T BE MAD AT ANYONE ONCE WE BRING DOWN THIS DUST RING.” _The two shake hands and Khurguuhul gets in his car and leaves. Piercer & Roper make their way to where they have their car stashed and get in._ Roper: “OK PIERCER!!! A QUICK RIDE ACROSS TOWN THEN WE CAN SCOPE OUT THE PLACE!!!” _The engine roars as Roper floors the petal, sending dust and debris flying as the tires smoke and the car takes off at high speed._ _The screen goes black and big white letters pop on spelling “TWO HOURS LATER”. The scene fades back in to a shot of Piercer & Roper setting in the car, then slowly pans back to reveal that the car is in the middle lane of a 5 land freeway that is currently bumper to bumper packed with cars._ Roper: “I HATE TRAFFIC JAMS!!!!!!!” Piercer: “ _Stares blankly at Roper_ “ Roper: “YOU’RE RIGHT PIERCER!!! AT LEAST THIS GIVES US TIME TO FIGURE OUT HOW WERE GUNNA DO THIS!!! I’M THINK.....A STAKE OUT!!!!” Piercer: “ _Stares blankly at Roper, then smiles, revealing a maw of serrated, razor edged teeth._ “ Roper: _Jumps out of shock from the sight of Piercer’s teeth_ “DAMNIT PIERCER!!!! THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEANT WHEN I SAID YOU SHOULD GET VENEERS!!!” _Screen goes black_ Announcer: “Now trapped in a traffic jam, Piercer & Roper have plenty of time to plan their stake out of Snipdik’s Apothecary. Will the traffic jam ever end? Will their stake out yield useful information? Will someone explain just what the fuck is going on with Piercer’s teeth? Find out next time on...” _Theme Music Starts_ “Piercer & Roper!!!!” _Credits Roll_
