Larger than wolves the Worgs and their arctic kin the Winter Wolves, are fiendish canines who are formidable predators in the wilderness, well known for being killers of humanoids. Goblinoids make use of Worgs as trained mounts and attack animals, brutally training them from pups to obey them.

I always use the high intelligence of a monster. I had a party that was all but immune to cold attacks, so the Winter Wolf cold attacks did little more than giving the PC's a frosty covering. They prepped against a pack that came out from ambush cold blasting. The party killed nearly all of them right after that. The leader of that group ran away. The party was high-fiving and laughing at how well they prepped. They continued on their predictable path fully expecting that lone winter wolf to return. It did, after informing all the other winter wolves and frost giants about the party's fire use and cold immunity. The party came across a few Frost Giants charging them. They endured the fire attacks and closed in. The surviving Winter Wolf and the five nearby groups flanked them once they engaged the Frost Giants. The party retreated, badly injured, carrying their dead. The party reconsidered their strategy. The one player sang his "I told you" song over and over again about how the party should have charged and finished off the retreating Winter Wolf.

What would be interesting to do in a viking/norse/Scandinavian setting is that winter wolves, along with worgs are actually both directly related to Fenrir, but that winter wolves are descended from one of his children, and worgs are from his other child making them cousins. Though In the mythology I would put it that in a dispute, which might have been caused by Fenrir, the two siblings of Fenrir fought an the fight ended in a stalemate. Yet the both could not stand this thinking that they were the true pinnacle of wolf-kind only surpassed by their father, and so each left going into the wild that suited their actually style leading to winter wolves taking up territory in the arctic areas an worgs in more of the temperate areas.

I played a Worg in an MMO game and omg I had so much fun playing like an alligator. That stealth invisibility is crazy fun . Not to mention the scent tracking ability. Killing hobbits and elves just avoid the dwarves. Killing sentinel guards is just a hobby at this point leaving the main party alive. Leaving them wondering what killed five guards not realizing it was one Worg using stealth. Making them think they slept through a major battle.

In my custom campaign world, one of the party members' stepfather was a Worg. me and them decided it'd be cool if her character was raised and trained by the beast since it could talk and the world was heavily based on dark fairytales. It was quite the experience for the others when they met their friend's "dad."

In a original campaign I'm running one of two main BBEGs (They will basically have to choose which one to take down, with two of them independently executing their evil plan at the same time) is a goblin ex-adventurer who united many different tribes living to the northeast of Dragonspear castle and used them to conquer the entire uncivilised area around these lands. Among the victims of his conquest was a Worg group that was previously independent, but it's leader managed to escape and is now one of npc companions that might join my players if they agree to help him free his people. The catch (Which my players didn't learn about yet) is that these worgs used goblin slaves before they were conquered, and will return to this practice as soon as they're liberated.

I ofen make winter wolves more a neutral creatures, but as they are biger and stronger as smarter than normal wolves. Winter wolves cause more problems when their normal food suply is low or smart humanoid has made a pact whit them, like barbarian chieftain gives portion of their hunt to winter wold for its cooperation in hunting and raids and even it protecting their families when warriors leave for some erants. This follows whit more evil creatures like giants they know that you can bargain whit ww:s or take some pups and have smart companions. I have few times even had good ranger making friends whit winter wolf and jused it as a mount (but he had to make shure he compensated that to the wolf)

In World of Warcraft, the worgs are used as mounts for the Horde you played and as pets whatever you played as a hunter in every race you chose. But in the Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson introduces two different types of Wargs. One the hyena like wargs and the other the Gundabad wargs which are wolf like and they out run anything. Even Azog rodes a female white warg too.

Got enough demon ichor to infuse into their marrow or expose the worglings to in utero? Got a suitable cage, chain leash, beast barding, a deep enough pit, and breeding partners? I could suggest a Cerebrus, Hellhound, Devil Dog, Death Dog, Plague Dog, or Demon Dog. Alternately: Great White Winter Wolf, Huge Arctic Cavewolf, Shadowmaned Werewolf

I always liked the concept of a Warg. Its a bigger stronger version of my favorite animal. And I like them more now that i know their inspiration from Fenrir. I dont like how they are evil. I dont like the idea of anything being evil simply for existing. Furthermore. Fenrir wasnt evil, the Gods made him that way because they were cowards.
@MRDicristofaro
@MRDicristofaro 6 жыл бұрын
yeah finrir was a pretty sad story , they pretty much made him into a monster
@thedarkmaster4747
@thedarkmaster4747 6 жыл бұрын
come they're better evil as a concept, a big bad sadistic wolf, thats unnatural and is driven by a sadistic hunger, that talks to you. big badass talking wolves are good too, but wargs are like a living nightmare. but i do see what you're getting at though, evil for merely existing, but wargs are really cool as malevolent entities.
@dr.calibrations7984
@dr.calibrations7984 6 жыл бұрын
The Dark master Like Its okay for demons, and purely magic monsters. But wargs feel more natural, like part og the world. And thats why I dont like how every warg= evil. Essentially it a argument FOR genocide. If every Orc ir Goblin is evil then slaughter them all and salt the land. They are genetically inferior and incapable of existing in society. Generally most could be evil 75% but if they're all evil it makes them seem less malevolent and less intelligent. Too stupid to not murder.
@thedarkmaster4747
@thedarkmaster4747 6 жыл бұрын
Zack Kerber Wargs are kind of magic monsters though. they shouldn't exist on the prime material, like werewolves, it is an argument for genocide as the occupy the same niche as regular wolves. they're monsters. the tropes of orcs and goblins can lead to them being benevolent, but wargs are always the black wolf that eats you, tropically speaking. they're unnatural, kind of like a warp spasm warrior, i suppose the could be good, as defenders or guardians of something. or a wepon created to destroy an evil. but they are xreatures of violence.
@dr.calibrations7984
@dr.calibrations7984 6 жыл бұрын
The Dark master Just because it was made to kill doesnt mean it wants to. Pit bulls are war hounds but if properly cared for they are nice as hell. But i suppose if they're monsters they can be all evil. Diminishes their intelligence though. You would thing that a race of 100s of smart creatures would have diversity in thought :/

In my campaign a magic 'Apocalypse' happened and magic permeates the world (all beings can cast at least three cantrips). during winter, when the snow falls it congeals to form winter wolves, in spring they shake off their 'winter coat' (if you will) and become 'normal' wolves but retain their intelligence. In the rainy season aquatic creatures are seen swimming through the air (my players never get on the boat, so I bring the ocean to them). Im still thinking of what to do in spring, summer and fall. Feel free to help out ppl!

Spring is a time of growth and rebirth, you could have life growing from everywhere in every town and palace, think weeds but when the flowers bloom there's a creature inside. It could also be a chance to change the world with some giant trees and creatures moving in to them as for summer.. IDK have a filler episode: it gets too hot in the summer to fight and everyone goes to the beach for a party And for fall, everything created in spring can go back to sleep or die in preparation for winter. Hope this helps

Watch a few docs on raising wolves. A wolf is a wolf. Even packs that have been raised for four generations with humans, the wolves will still try to kill each other for leadership of the pack. You could raise a worg or winter wolf to be some what " tame " around you and few of your friends. But they Will attack other dogs/ wolves that come into it's territory and bully other people that come near your home. A wild animal does not live with you, you are the one living with a wild animal. Traveling with a worg is a good way to get randomly attacked by other worg packs as you travel through their territories.

I love the idea of talking evil wolves, switching from a malevolent demonic humanoid manipulative perspective to just descriptive vicious canine violence. then you could just have a rather fly goblin walk in afterwards flipping a coin charmingly saying. "give us your stuff & we'll go away" *worg cuts in with desturbingly accurate dog violence sound effects* but yeah i'd agree, white dragons would just eat winter wolves. but an ancient talking worg would be a great idea, one thats been around for thousands of years, possibly learned afew spells, has seen battles and heroes and major historical events. likes to bully wolves, wants nothing better to kill & eat you... not nessersarily in that order, but... but hates goblins more than anything. which could make a run of the mill goblin hunt much more fun. as to the goblins it would seem as though you've allied with something comparable too the devil/genghis khan, as they warn you before their deaths that: "the dark one will only turn on you in the end! all are fooder to him! all flesh is his violence!" does it turn on you in the end? or do something so sadistic to the poor goblins you've been paid to get rid of that it satisfies it's hatred?

Did campaigns of goblin ranger/rogue worg riders. If you think you can out run the worg, well, the goblin just shoots you with a few arrows, then you are slower prey for the worg. Worgs requires a lot of brushing, petting, ear scratching, and lots of treats to be a loving puppy dog. And worgs eat or chew everything they can get a hold of. Not just the fruit off the tree, but the branches too. They love to steal fresh baked pies. If a goblin were to love anyone, it will be their worg mount. The main reason goblin worg raiders move around so much doing hit and runs, cause they are just trying to maintain feed for the worgs. "cough, cough, cough," I am not saying that you play or run a game that goblin worg raiders are all rainbows and sunshine. Some worgs act like their goblin rider is Their Pet, and the worg is a full time jerk and bully to it's rider. The only reason it's goblin rider puts up with the behavior is cause they have status as a Rider, and no one else want to deal with that given worg. Some single or pairs of goblin/ worgs move into a human hamlet/ village to act as rat catchers and scouts. They are called Vermin Hunters and they work with or against local human bandits over local hunting territories. Once a worg stakes out a given village area, the worg does not like other worgs moving into their territory. And the local goblin doesn't like losing it's social importance with the local humans.

Wargs, dire wolves, could just be a mongrel mix of some sort. Tolkien; I don’t think, thought most of the evil creatures weren’t irredeemably evil maybe just twisted and marked by it. Sometimes it’s fun to leave it a mystery. Stat wise though I think any of those would work, just depends on your preference 😄

Michael Kelligan It's a reference to an old d&d computer game named "Baldur's Gate" by Bioware. It's available on Google play now, and I would very highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys d&d.

Daimon X not true. Nephilim are half angel, half demon. Aasimar are half human.

Daimon X The closet things to Nephilim in D&D would be Grazzt and his siblings since they are the spawn of Asmodeous and a Demon queen before he was changed into a devil and imprisoned in hell.

Long ago I took on a journey, In the northernmost hemispheres of Fareun past Luskan, in the deepest woods during a great whiteout, I was met with something....out of my grandmothers' stories...a Great Wolf...a towering lupine the size of a Polar Bear, like the Fenrisian Thunder Wolf but its fur white as snow, its eye blue as ice and its fang and claws razor sharp & silvery, roaring akin the a dragon before setting me ablaze it charged, its jaw was more like a guillotine but locked shut like that of Carnosaur, forcing to revert to my more vampiric form, yet its fangs could pierce my hide, a benefit of dragons blood,...after much bruising my fangs finally landed a killing blow and I drank deep from its lifeblood, once it was drained dry I cut open into it and gorged on the eatable inner organs, when I was done I skinned the beast and too its pelt as my own, made a totems out of the bones, a charm out of the claws and fangs, during the winter it can keep warm and during the summer it shrouds the wearer in an aura of cold, the blood of the beast granted me the power to change into its form, a Great Black Wolf or a Great White Wolf during the winter of a full moon, I can also summon the spirit of theBeast at my beckoned call to fight as my familiar,

In our DND campaign we used Leonin children to "torture" a Winter Wolf. We have "civilized him somewhat. He's a great ally in open combat
