Double tracking has been a staple in studio recording for decades. It adds punch and interest at just the right moment. Duplicator brings that studio sound to your live performances, giving you tight, loose and octave options that perfectly suit your song.

Craig! So, I love my Mic Mechanic 1. Can I use the duplicator in conjunction with the Mic Mech? If yes, what is the best order? Thanks!!!
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 6 жыл бұрын
Typically there's not a super effective way to connect the MM to the Duplicator. The effect order you'd want ideally would be tone --> correction --> doubling --> echo/reverb. Since both products do the tone/correction and reverb, they each have the effects in the right order internally. It's really the echo that you end up missing. If it were me, I'd probably sacrifice the echo on MM and just go with a duplicator if doubling was my more used effect. Otherwise, it'd probably be time to step up to something like a VoiceLive Play.

If using a mixer and not an interface run the mic into one of the pedals and the other in the channel insert loop with a Y cable.

I would do it this way: The lead singer gets Mic Mechanic Second singer Duplicator Third singer Harmony singer
@robfriedrich2822
@robfriedrich2822 5 жыл бұрын
I noticed, you can confuse devices what adds a voice by processed signals. In a chain, duplicator or harmony singer has to be the first. When you want to use duplicator AND harmony singer, you need a plug, that turns micro XLR output into two and have to use both parallel, but be careful, I guess, that at one of both, the balance between dry and wet has to be 100 % wet to avoid unwanted flanging. At least you would set it by using a small mixing console.

Can you just do a simple pedal which does the same as the MM, the duplicator and harmony but it’s not the voice play live? No screen needed etc.

I want the controls to attach to a mic stand too and the footswitch effect on/off / tempo on the floor, maybe on/off for two effects like one for double and one for reverb or assignable 2 or so effects and hold / tempo. I play guitar too so if I did a hold tempo Id love if it would do that for my boss loop station (guitar) and my vocal effects at the same time and make less clutter at my feet. I already have tape delay, eq, looper for acoustic, and i def need pitch shift/ and these for vocals and id be over the top for performing.

Got one of these about a week ago. In rehearsal it’s was not bad. I found the tone button very useful, it sets a pretty even sounding eq, which I like as means I don’t have to worry much about it. The reverb is pretty cheap sounding, but if it’s a good enough stage you really won’t need it. I think the reverb will be useful for those commercial shows which sometimes have a)shit sound techs or b) no reverb function in the desk. The auto correction is a bit too robotic for my liking. But I wrote a song that needs a robotic sounding vocal so it works well for that. The tight double up is good for pumping up a Chorus. The other two double up functions are a bit too un natural. I mean you can dial in a tiny amount and get a double lift, but what’s gonna make more difference, a great vocal performance or the audience suspending disbelief while you compromise focusing on nailing those notes to sound like a robot? . My opinion of this unit is that it’s more of a “boost” pedal for your voice. Like a guitar boost pedal; generally you hit it when you want to cut through the band during solo spots or high gain parts. The double up works similarly. It’s also sits snug in my guitar pedal board and runs of the same power bank which is really great. I have a show next week and plan to use it, I’ll review it properly then.

Press the Tone button off and back on. If the red light in the button blinks once before staying on, you’re in “less bright” mode. If it just turns straight on without a blink, you’re in “normal” (brighter) mode To change it, hold the Tone button down while pressing the foot switch. I usually prefer the “less bright” mode. Normal mode tends to cause feedback problems at higher volumes.

Nice sounding pedal! Anyone have any experience using this unit for professional vocal recording? My home studio is centered on a stand-alone digital recording/mixing unit, so I don't have the luxury of working with plug-ins. Specifically, I'm interested in a pitch correction tool in a hardware format like this. I'm wondering if putting this pedal in my vocal tracking signal chain would offset the quality coming from my outboard mic pre and compressor.

Duplicator's tone is exactly the same algorithm as all of our other products from MM to VL3. I think what you could do is go Duplicator --> MM. Use Tone, pitch correction and doubling on the Duplicator, but don't use reverb. Then use reverb/echo on the MM. That way you get Tone --> Correction --> Doubling --> Echo --> Reverb as your signal chain. That's about as optimal as you can get with the two pedals in a chain.
