A peice of heat shrink over the stand off before you mount gives the zip ties more bite, keeps them from sliding up or down the stand off

What FC are you using? I have the same setup, using the micro TX and my rssi seems to randomly drop and come back when I'm only a few hundred feet away. It's never lost signal, but my OSD and taranis qx7 always whines about signal being weak.

Been using the "L" ever since TBS was introduced in the market and have never had an issue. Only use an Immortal "T" on my long range and it's mounted high and vertical. I think too many over think something that's so simple, it's not rocket science how the two types of antennas work best.

The flat dipole from the Immortal-T is also not perfect (if not couppled right) because it has more like 75ohms and the L-shape could be even better because closer to 50ohms. I think L-shape is a good idea.

I have mine mounted in the common way under one rear arm and I tend to get failsafes at what would be considered relatively short distances. I think this is a better configuration as the antenna will be visible to the transmitter whatever angle it's at. Inline with the body is too easy to be blocked in certain positions.

I have this on my whoop and never had issues with a cheap FLI14+. I made my dipole antenna from Frsky on another quad with "diy" T made of tubes, mounted horizontally under the back arms. Whenenver i turn 90 degree left or right it dips drastically, now i've mounted it in an L-shape like this just a few hours ago coincidentally because of the same reasons and landing also. But my friend had a trauma today with his fli14+ and a cygnet, failsafe with 53% Rssi. Seems like i'm lucky with the whoop and got it down to 20's and not failsafed so far. I shouldnt say this but if you wanna see his crash i just uploaded it.

Isn't that antenna a dipole? Which is supposed to be straight? I guess crossfire is good enough to handle the reduction in link quality. I'm sure trappy is extremely happy right about now fielding questions about making this. They already have a "micro V" which might produce better results and is a premade option.

Does the L compared to T cause any signal loss? I know with FrSky it is recommended to use antennas at 90 degrees to each other and I thought that a T shape was the recommended setup for crossfire. I know you say that you’ve not had any issues which is cool, but it would be good to know the official response 🙂
@twistedsocal
@twistedsocal 5 жыл бұрын
according to trappy and also everything known about how rf works, yes it will effectively reduce range and reception quality, however, crossfire is nothing short of bad ass and is self healing and able to identify and adjust to noise and interference ( that's what they say and I haven't been able to prove otherwise) so unless you are flying something a bit larger than a 5 inch or are trying to get some crazy penetration beyond what Steel does(I don't dare try to do half the shit he does regularly for fear of failsafe) you would be hard pressed to ever notice any loss of range.

@@TheVonny77 Dude, get a bnf micro(2 or 3 inch) like an Emax babyhawk r pro or even just the babyhawk r, or diatone r90 or even something like an et115 cause they will still fly 3s packs and the et115 v2 is pretty durable short of getting caught in a tree, trying to spin it out will toast motors and can cook the 4 in 1 esc but crashes be damned, the thing doesn't want to break. The babyhawk r 3 inch is quite the beast, hauls major ass and is great fun to fly, the r pro flys better probably cause of the f4 FC. Plus any of the smaller quads that weigh in at less than 250 grams don't need to be registered with the FAA and you don't have to notify air traffic control as long as you don't fly above 400 feet or directly in the line of the runway for a mile or so either direction, I live near a major airport so when I fly my smaller quads I don't bother making the call since they told me I didn't need to, when I fly my 5 inch I do make the call before to let them know when and where and for how long and what celling height and then have to call after to let them know I'm done. Needless to say, I tend to fly my sub 250 gram quads more often cause not that calling is a pain but sometimes I just want to fly right then and it's easier plus if a cop tried to give me shit I can pull up the airports web site which I have saved and also the FAA regulations and pretty much tell him that I have gotten the ok from anyone in the vacinity and basically tell him to go fuck himself as I am doing nothing wrong and am not required by any law or regulation to do anything differently. Not in those words but the meaning is always loud and clear

Now, a few months later, i picked your PIDs in the dropdown again and saved..without saving my prior PIDs. -.- Stupid me, since it seems like most values changed and my quad doesn't feel that reliable any more. In addition my motors get warm (which they never didn't with the old pids) and the batteries warmer than before. Which PIDs are actually the best for your 4S setup? ^^ Thanks in advance!

there is a diversity Rx for crsf as well, since you have 2 just make 2 of these and mount them out each side, the only place the antenna has a null is directly out of the tip, if you have one out each side the times when you are in one antenna null the other antenna is in a prime angle for reception.

Hey Steele, like many, you’ve inspired me to start flying fpv. I kind of stopped flying line of sight around 5 years ago, when I started my business and didn’t have any time fly. I was excited and motivated until a few days ago when I heard about new laws being put into place for drone flying. For us guys who are on the edge, ready to drop some money into a good setup, do you have any insight into how any of the new laws would effect us? If you have any insight, it would be great to hear it from the legend, Mr Steele..

like fpvtutor said, it's all about the sub 250 gram (pretty much all 3 inch and smaller quads) if you don't want to have to register or get permission to fly, still have to be mindful of any actual full size air traffic and can't be flying over people or stadium while people are going to be there or have just left and need to stay under 400 feet etc but the micro quads have next to no other rules aside from common sense and courtesy basics that anything jamming through the air with spinning blades that can injure others or yourself should have.

So I got the Taranis QX7S with the r9m module. Now lower frequencies are better at penetratring objects, so I think that using it for freestyle would benefit you if you fly around a lot of objects. But when I google around nobody really mentions that and only uses it for longer ranges. Is it worth switching to a r9m receiver even if you don't fly that far out but you're just flying in and around a lot of objects?

With this antenna orientation on the quad what would be the best transmitter antenna orientation? Horizonal? Vertical? Thanks in advance.

I currently have the same question in mind. Did you find the answer yet? Please advise if you have. Many thanks

Just put it strait under an arm.. easy peasy and you can either rip the bandos OR take er out 2km.. You still the man though🤙

much more likely to have a random failsafe having it running along the arm since the arm is carbon fiber and causes issues with RF. I use bottom mount batteries so I run an immortal T but have it almost an inch below my arm and the actual antenna is running perpendicular to the arm so the cross of the t is the only spot near the arm and still spaced far enough I don't ever have issues.

@@stickboyfpv4742 lol alright, was curious how you were doing it and not getting some sort of decreased range otherwise
