I just purchased some stabilized turquoise from the Colbaughs a couple of weeks ago. It came as a solid 1 lb. chunk and is very easy to work with. It's absolutely gorgeous and the price was $85 a pound. You can't beat it. I prefer natural turquoise, but I can't find pieces that large anywhere without spending a fortune.

What a sensational video - I had been very concerned about the treatment of some turquoise I purchased. I have been tearing the internet to pieces trying to find out more, but now you have answered my questions. I was told it was 'high grade stabilized' and like you say - i thought this was a contradiction and they were talking rubbish - and they just couldn't tell me any more about it! Thank you again!

I lived in Az when I was a kid . My Dad worked for The Kennecott copper corp at Ray mines located near Kearny Az . They allowed visitors and we went on school field trips there . They kept a large pile of rocks near the entrance for visitors to take some home . They would make a scoop of the raw material from the bottom of the pit and bring it to the top for the pile. It was full of chunks of turquoise with copper mix around it some with crystals mixed in the turqoise absolutely stunning in this form . It looks more blue than the kingman turquose .I kept every piece and keep them inside my home on display

Well done and I informative. I've notice it's difficult to tell some Kingston from Royston stones. I'm now convinced the bolo I recently purchased is indeed old pawn unstableized Kingston turquoise as it was sold and even without an identifying stamp the seller knew the silversmiths name despite some pieces being made in the 70's with no silversmith markings. I happen to love the look of natural stones and sought out deeper greens with nicely balanced golden brown matrix for character. As you point out, value has many variables but the most important being if it gives the buyer joy to look at the stone and it's delivery system, the jewelry it sits in.

I can't buy pawned, I just refuse. Not judging, just bad juju for me.
@FreeSpokenOne
@FreeSpokenOne 3 жыл бұрын
@@drdebocherry Old pawn doesn’t necessarily mean what people imagine. Many pieces are purchased at estate sales, from those who’ve passed, or sold by collectors so I’m not sure why anyone would imagine them being bad juju. Maybe you are thinking of pawn shops which I personally don’t care for despite people at various points in life having nowhere else to turn for funds. A necessary ill if you will. Old pawn pieces aren’t stolen goods anymore than other goods purchased second hand, but it does sound like a type of judgement based on lack of understanding. I’m not superstitious nor afraid of the dead, a ghoul, or disrespectful toward our native population and am a supporter of indigenous people if anything with deep respect of their lives and traditions, jewelry included. Some old pawn pieces I’ve salvaged from suffering worse fates than they already have and there is turquoise in them from either lost, dead, or closed and treasured mines. People buy and keep the spirit of stones where people can still appreciate them and to me that’s all about good juju despite my not being of West African descent and these not belonging to their culture or continent. All the same I respect your decision and hope it’s made from the best of intentions.

I have a very old large Kingmen Black Web Spider Bola Tie which has a crack in it, but still holding together well in the Bezel. It almost looks too large and could actually be used to make two rings if taken out of the current Bezel, but I really want to leave it alone. It is about 2 or 3 times larger than the stones shown in the rings you have here. What can I do to secure the stone, as since it has a crack in it (which is not always visible) in the Bola Bezel? I would guess a piece of metal put across the stone would look great however I know that heating up a Bezel to do the work might damage the stone. Any ideas would be appreciated. I think it is natural and not stabilized, but I know that is hard to determine by a novice like me.

Very educational, in a pleasant sort of way. Is it possible to select and buy a cabochon from you, and then have it made into a particular type of ring? I am looking for something somewhat heavy and solid for an oval cab aproximately 1 inch x 3/4 inch, size 11 1/4, with only a few simple, subtle lines on the silver. I'm a guitar player, and too much decorative work would snag on the strings. I want something nice.

Is there anywhere in AZ where desert combers can still pick up turquoise off the ground? I keep reading about turquoise claims.

Thank you for the information! I've lived in Tucson since 1976, so I love turquoise. As much as I've seen & own there's always something new to see & learn. I'm crazy for the Ceremonial variety - the 1st smaller piece you showed was gorgeous. I tend to gravitate towards the green spectrum and, in fact, much of my turquoise turns green over time. The more contact is has with my skin, the more green it becomes. I find it funny bcz it's my favorite color of turquoise anyway. Is that typical? Also, I heard that many tribes view blue turquoise appropriate for men and the greener colors are for women - is there any truth in that? Thxs again!! ✌️💜🌈
