This is the appearance which made headlines in 2011 due to Cyndi messing up a line in the song. As Cyndi tweeted directly after the performance, she was emotional due to it being the 10th anniversary of 9-11. I guess emotions got the best of her, and 1 line was messed up.

Cyndi is a fucking legend. Im from Australia so I dont know where she mixed up the words. But from my perspective she sang it hauntingly beautiful with no flaws. I put my hand over my heart every time I hear her voice

She's 65 currently, but was 57 at the time of this video. Keep in mind, Aretha Franklin was still performing into her mid-70s before passing away. Madonna is still performing at age 60 and Cher is on a world tour at age 72. It's not about how old you are, it's about the condition of your vocal cords and overall health.

She did exactly what any professional performer should do. She realized her mistake and just kept going. I've screwed up on stage in front of a thousand people and with an audience of 5 people more times than I can count. You can't stop and re-do a live performance. Own your mistake and move on. She did an incredible job here !!

She sounded like she was a little nervous. I have heard her sing this other times, she even did a more up tempo version and she always does an amazing job. I was never a big fan of Cyndi when she first became super famous but over the years I learned to like her both as a person and as a performer. She did a great job on her part in "We Are The World" in 1985. I'll give her a pass for her small mistakes, she deserves much respect.

Check out her version at Shea stadium (Mets) in I believe 93. Up until I heard this (Shea 🏟)version I thought Whitney Houston’s version was the best. Yep it’s that good. I couldn’t put one in front of the other. They both are very moving

This was a long time ago but I think people should cut Cyndi Lauper some slack. I understand it's the national anthem but she probably got nervous. For those of you who criticized Cyndi for screwing up one line, I would like to see you try to sing in front of a large crowd & not get nervous. She did a good job overall singing the national anthem. She just messed up one line big deal. It was a very minor mistake. She had most of it right. TBH I wouldn't have even noticed she messed up the national anthem until someone would point it out to me.

Did anyone notice how many people didn't bother to put their hand over there heart...? Is this the reality of the country we live in? I honestly didn't know that most people lacked respect for America to this degree. If my own countrymen can't do this simple act of honor then God help the USA. My family stands up in our livingroom and places our hands over our hearts every single time... Like every single bullet that killed a man that made this moment possible... no exceptions.
