Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had a heated exchange Thursday about whether the hearing over an alleged sexual assault would be better served by an FBI investigation. "Why would you resist that kind of investigation?" Durbin asked, while directing him to ask White House counsel for an official probe. Kavanaugh said he would do whatever the committee wanted to do, but did not directly answer whether he thought an FBI investigation was the best course. "We are not suspending this hearing," Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, interjected. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called the proceedings "the most unethical sham."
