Not being able to tow my car with them is a deal breaker. But I guuessss I can just use them as an awesome hiking pole. I think pole weight has been underestimated with how much it can affect the hiking experience so it's super cool to see these out on the market!

been in the sage cult going all the way back to the Mass days. will continue to support all things Durston. That said, I am firmly in the wrist strap camp. For me, a properly adjusted strap means my pole swings in my cadence with very little hand contact. Really cuts down on grip fatigue. The cradle around the wrist, for me, greatly assist with load disbursement on impact and thru the driving portion of pole contact and release with the surface. V2 with straps gets my money.

Dan did it again. X-Mid, Zflicks and now the Iceland poles. Kick ass looking product!

Wow, I didn't think I'd ever buy a carbon fiber treeking pole again. Once again, Dan's thinking outside the box to totally change a piece of gear has me buying a carbon fiber trekking pole. I really like how the sections are much larger and more durable than traditional CF poles. Also, I love how it folds as small as my aluminum BD distance poles. It is like a simplified z fold style pole. Which I love since it's less things to break on an already reliable design. Which allowed you to cut weight and still improve strength. That is brilliant!

I don't think I could use poles without a wrist strap. The majority of the downward pressure and stress on the hand is taken away with a strap. Obviously it would increase the weight to the same if not more than the others you tested but the overall user enjoyment and benefit would far 'outweigh' that extra weight

Love this, I literally just bought some aluminum cascade mountain poles because I broke the last 2 carbon fiber sets, I will likely try your poles next to see how much the weight savings and strength changes my hiking, great job Dan!

I really like the continued innovation and the logical improvements you put into your products. Like others have mentioned, wrist straps for me are important and would be worth the increase in weight.

These poles look fantastic, and the price is comparable to my black diamond alpine carbon cork poles. The lack of a wrist strap is not a deal breaker but will be interesting to see how it feels after a long day of hiking. I can't believe how light they are!

I backpack ~100 days a year, and I always remove my wrist straps from any pole because I like to change grip positions and I find straps hazardous. I particularly like the top (palm) grip and find this better than any strap. I also find comstant frustration in having to set both the top and bottom flicklock. I am not a Durston diehard, and I was excited about the strength to weight ratio, but was totally unprepared for these unique design features that make the Iceline my dream pole.

I am so excited about these - excellent work Dan! I personally hate straps and love this design direction. Keep making what you love! It’s too bad so many people approach your gear with an entitled attitude as if they’ve been wronged when a design isn’t exactly how they want it.

It's great to see some new ideas on trekking pole design. I think this is very cool! One trivia nitpick though: the Ruta Locura Yana poles are 106g/119g (no strap/with strap) a piece. They don't collapse anywhere as short as the Iceline but they are adjustable (two sections). Technically AFAIK the Yana is the lightest adjustable trekking pole.

Great design Dan! I wish these had come out before I purchased my locus gear poles! IMO going strapless is superior and safer. I love Eva grips too.

Is the bottom part of the pole going to pop out when using in sticky, thick mud? I can’t tell how much force is needed to pull apart at the quick disconnect.

To start I own a standard x-mid and a kakwa 40 and I take them out almost every week. they are both my absolute favorite pieces of gear. Saying this I’m very particular with my trekking poles because I use them all the way through low class three terrain. I wish Mr Dan would make a model less focused on weight but rather functionality. I like the disconnecting idea but I’m not a huge fan of anything else. I like replaceable tips, cork handles, and the most important part to me is the straps. I actually have a video on my channel of how I use them. I feel like Dan has the kind of mind that could reimagine the trekking pole strap and make it more functional than ever. Although I like the creative ways used to save weight here like the glue and the coating. I’m all into that kind of stuff. I just don’t like reduced functionality. That’s why I think the X-mid the greatest piece of hiking gear ever. Tons of functionality and not overly focused on weight even though it’s still considered

They look great and I have purchased a set - admittedly without realising they had no straps - So while a bit disappointed with that (as much with my own lack of attention when purchasing) I am looking forward to using them and seeing if I am OK with no straps. Not fully convinced on that, but trust the judgement of Dan and happy to give it a go!

I love the look of the poles and I much prefer having only one adjuster. The main thing I would be concerned about, is losing one or more parts of the poles when they are broken down. Are you able to use these with standard backpack trekking pole attachments when not in use?

GG LT5's with the wrist strap are only 5g heavier, so I'm guessing they are still the lighter when compared like for like? BUT I can definitely see the iceline being stronger. I wonder if the press button joiner will creak or flex & how it'll wear.. All in all the a classic Durston advancement in tech & materials used, well done Dan, It's fantastic that you are so actively pushing the industry further! ❤

These are amazing. I had to get ultimate direction fixed poles for the weight I want, and functional straps. The only wishes I have for these Durston poles is cork grips and wrist straps! I’d take a little weight penalty if you ever plan to make a variation, they will be perfect.

Dan, could you show what these look like in the most collapsed position when upright on a backpack? That’s where they’d be most of the time for me, which is why i want ultralight poles. I only use them when i really need them, and for my tarp/tent.

As someone who never uses trekking poles this is the first pole that has been somewhat compelling to me.. I could see keeping them stowed most of the time and breaking them out for just really steep sections and tricky stream crossings. Then of, course to use with tent/tarp setup or whatever at camp. No cork is a plus for my use case but I am also curious about the decision to omit a strap. Seems useful to be able to use your hands in a pinch or to relieve some pressure from your grip, no?

Is there a button release for the bottom section? It's not clear from the video, but watching 1:41 carefully, it looks like there probably is. That would make a big difference! My main concern would be disconnecting the lower section if wedged between rocks in talus or caught in thick brush, snow, or mud.

Looks great, though I also prefer wrist straps. Any provision for replacement parts? Grips and tips tend to wear pretty fast on poles, I find. And of course, some folks will inevitably break their poles.

Hello Dan! I just received your new trekking poles and they are unbelievable- I recommend everyone get them! One question, do you have any ideas or suggestions about adding/improvising something that acts like straps for the handles? (I may not use straps, but just thinking about ideas)

I would tend to use these poles towards the max length, is the confidence in the strength still there if you have to take it to the maximum length?

are they just as strong at 127cm maxed out? hope it's long enough for me, also straps?

How does the quick connect portion stay locked in? I say this because I'm notorious for stepping on my baskets from time to time, and I totally see me doing this and ripping the bottom part off. 😂

Had a similar idea,or should i say question of whether the lower adjuster was really needed or not. So cool to se someone actually do it. What I'm a bit worried or skeptical about is that the lower part is not attached when stowing on a backpack and in general i would be worried about losing. It falling of of the backpack or something like that. Also, consider it's a magnet,would the poles disassemble if stuck for a moment while hiking, let's say in a tree root on an accident or some similar scenario,which is in general highly unlikely but still might happen. I guess that wouldn't be that bad and probably better than the whole pole being damaged.

Looks awesome. Although I do foresee a scenario in which I get the bottem part of my pole stuck in some snow or mud and accidentally disconnect it from the top.

I'm kinda late to the party on this one but it seems like everyone is talking about the straps. I get it, but that's not really what I was thinking about. Just curious if you considered a cork handle version or did any testing on what the weight difference would be with cork VS the foam they currently come with? I would love a cork and strap option.

How secure is the lower connection? Concerned with loosing the lower piece during river crossings and Vermud.

Hey Dan, just recently I bought the X-Mid 1 Solid and I really like it a lot. My only fear is that i break my poles while on a multi-day hike and then have no tent. Currently I‘m using the flimsy Fizan Compact 3. Your new poles look quite a bit more sturdy, which I like! I know this might not fit your brand, but what do you think about a “solid” variant of the Iceline Poles which is even stronger (and maybe even with straps :D)? Apart from flimsiness, my other issue with the Compact 3’s is that the can get stuck, especially if they weren’t completely dry when I closed them. I suppose that is not an issue here since the Iceline’s are carbon?

First off, great development and product design win! Other note any chance of a corkscrew handle, for some reason I gravitate towards this type of handle that feels more comfortable on hot humid hikes. When the inevitable occurs, can the standard replacement tips be used, or will we need to order spares from DG directly?

Using lighter paint, did I hear that right? My current poles are 193 grams but I do not like the screw tightener, it gets stuck and some times it does not fix and I have to fiddle with it to tighten it. Will replace it with this.

Great to see innovation is still happening 🎉 that being said, I don’t see a use for a trekking pole without straps as it’s very inefficient. Personal preference can be debated but not psychics :)

Great innovation Dan. What type of warranty do you offer ? The reason i ask is because with UK import duties they are a bit on the expensive side and my initial concerns would be long term durability because of the clip in lower section, i fear it would loosen over time. Also on some of the Leki pole handles you can unclip the hand loops and i was thinking that with their system you have added weight because of the mechanism that they use so maybe on yours you could drill a hole and thread a loop through it which then goes over the top and acting like a type of larks footing leaving enough room to get a gloved or mittened hand through an adjustable ultra lightweight material loop because i am in my 60s and i mostly use walking poles to aid my descents especially during wet and icy conditions, plus descending short wet grass which boosts my confidence because when i fall on my ass these days i feel the shock through my whole body . When i was younger it hardly registered if i fell but i am thinking from your point of view in terms of selling because older people rely on poles more than younger and some older people have a tough time bending down to pick up a dropped pole. If you need an old fart to do a review give me some discount and i am in 😜. If you didn't want to drill a hole which could potentially compromise the structural integrity you could opt for a small section of nearled rougher surface which would add friction for a suitable material to use as a lightweight hand loop I currently use the BD fly ultra that you are comparing here and i was very happy with them apart from the handles are too thin for my big hands and it took me a while to get used to them and now you have put me off by displaying the amount of flex compared to your new babies so thanks a lot 🤣

Hey Dan these poles look great! I do have one question, though about your demonstration of flexibility. I am probably misunderstanding… but wouldn’t a pole that flexes more under stress actually be less likely to shatter/break? In my mind, it would make sense that a material that’s more flexible and bendable is less likely to shatter under pressure then a more rigid material, right?

I very much appreciate the innovation. Great forward thinking. However, the poles are missing a key functional piece: serious trekking poles must have a wrist strap. It's how you get leverage to push off and how you reduce grip fatigue. I'll be looking for straps in an upcoming release.

Are the tips replaceable?

Love Cork (fake-cork is even better), hate straps. Straps are for those who like broken poles - then they complain endlessly about carbon-pole fragility. GG used to sell fake-cork handles, but not anymore. Is there any chance you'll sell cork handle replacements?
