Chip's back and he's not happy with the state of my dust collection hose.
Can't say I blame him really and I had a good suggestion from a subscriber, (sorry I can't find his email to give proper credit)
Us a piece of pipe to support the hose and ensure it can't get a sharp bend in it. The sience of air flow in pipes is well beyond me but the basic thing to know is to have nice gentle bends and smooth inside surfaces. The hose I have is far from smooth inside but at least I can reduce the sharp corners.

I like the idea of putting a rail for the hose to move along, will give that a try as I'm just setting up my dust collector for my cnc. Thanks for the input.

Thanks Bernie Springs only a week away and thanks to global warming I didn't see a single frost or any ice this winter. No wonder the wee fellas grumpy. I hate getting up early myself. Cheers Peter

I have a rod with the hose connected to a ring with zip ties which slides along with the machine. The rod runs along the center of the y axis (97 inches) with enough slack that will cover the total distance of the x axis (49 inches. It hangs down some what but seems to work okay. As always enjoyed your video.

Thanks John Now you mention it I have seen similar setup. Simpler that the arrangement I was thinking about. Thanks for the reminder. Cheers Peter

Great video Peter and great idea. I think I will have a crack and making one myself. Just a quick question. What vacuum do you use? I recently got a shop vac, but the hose is only about 50mm (2inch) diameter. Does it help having a larger diameter? Nice to see Chip again.

Thanks John Not sure which vacuum you mean. The dust extractor is a generic 1hp vertical extractor with a 4" hose. A more powerful one would be better but it's a trade off between available space and the cost of running it. I built a Thein separator into it to collect most of the dust before it gets to the collector. The vacuum I used on the vacuum table is a Festool ct22 I borrowed from my brother and it has a 32mm hose. Unfortunately I have to give that back just as soon as he finds out. Cheers Peter

So if the flex hose needs to be secured in a fixed location then maybe it should be a rigid duct... I like the rail idea for the flex duct part. Needs to move freely so something like an industrial curtain rail might do the trick. Thanks for sharing.
@cncnutz

Thanks Stephen. I like the idea of a rigid duct because it will have the smooth sides but it is just such a short run it hardly seems worth it. Cheers Peter

Well, since you asked for it... Smooth walled tubing would increase your airflow a compared to a hose. Might want to replace majority of the run with that :)
