The fact the founding member of Jefferson Airplane owned a club in SF called The Matrix in real life is a lot of layers.

Between the mysterious, eastern- influenced guitar intro, and the almost military sounding snare drum, followed by Grace's vocal overlay, you get transported to the beyond. Nothing quite like this song - truly a masterpiece!

I am checking in at age 70. Having been an usher at the Hollywood Bowl, I got paid 12 dollars (plus tips) to see Jefferson Airplane perform live on September 15, 1967. I was right up front and even went back stage that night. When they did "White Rabbit" the crowd was transfixed. I still remember that night, that very moment, such a very long time ago...

You don't need to do psychedelic drugs to live a full and prolific creative life. In fact I would argue that most psychedelic-inspired art is bizarre or absurd rather than truly beautiful, and they tend to all have the same discordant sound and look. I've enjoyed a creative life without this. I have been a boardgame designer and publisher for the last 8 years. If you want a real trip, go alone with your thoughts on a nature walk for 3-4 hours...that will blow your mind and give you all the inspiration you need.

When music was creative and well written!! It was just mind blowing amazing how this was done it's about recreational drugs LSD and hallucinating and going on 'trips' magic mushrooms etc and yet all the Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland references are spot on.This song seems to imply that Alice never had a dream but instead was high and hallucinating on some mind altering drug or 'some kind of mushroom'. I love that they reference characters from both the first book and the 2nd one "Through the Looking Glass' i.e. Rabbit, hookah smoking Caterpillar, the men on the chessboard, the White Knight and the Red Queen. Brilliant and very artistic and important song in an era of psychedelic drugs and rock music. Love Grace Slick! Her voice, her artistry. She once tried to lace LSD into drinks at the wedding of Tricia Nixon Richard Nixon's daughter. She knew Tricia from college but she was kept out of the party. Well today Grace is 83 years old and she will go down in history as one of the great women of the history of rock music. Thank you Grace!

I was 22 and in college when White Rabbit came out in 1967. The crowd I ran with loved it; it was THE perfect party song. I have some great memories associated with that song. Woodstock was across the country from me and I was a poor kid just out of college. As much as I wanted to be there, it was out of the question. I was not much of a Jimi Hendricks fan, but I loved The Doors, The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and especially the Stones. I love the Stones, and the fact that they’re still going strong, at my age, never ceases to amaze me. We also had a local band, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and I loved that band. I went to some great concerts in the 60’s and ‘70’s, had some experiences I’ll never forget. It was a great time to be young; I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That opening guitar rip.. that boy is killing it! Music a way to keep you alive forever. I always wonder if these artists realize what they’ve created in the process and that is a timeless piece of art! Thank you!

As others have said it much better than I can, this song is absolutely mesmerizing, from the hypnotic bass guitar to the mystical guitar! Grace Slick's voice is perfect for this song and so seductive. Jefferson Airplane were perfect archetypes for their time. In my opinion they are one of the best rock 'n roll bands, and she is certainly one of the best lead rock singers. It is probably no coincidence that Heart sounds similar. Having grown up in the 60s, I can really appreciate what influence they were. Able to relate so much better than if I were in my 20s. I'll always remember the story of grace walking into a Ferrari dealership in Los Angeles in her grubby, though typical, bell bottom jeans and being totally snubbed. I guess she didn't buy a Ferrari that day

She’s absolutely amazing but is she underrated really? Her and Janis Joplin were the driving forces of women’s vocals through the 60s and I think they are properly recognised for it

Possibly the most highly rated Rock vocalist of the 60's. And deservedly so. Wouldn't call her underrated. She hardly flew under the radar.

BrraaH Do you Even Know Who She IS? I Mean Like Really??! Maybe You Should: Go Ask Alice🤣😂😆 Oh, Wait Lemme Do The Easy Work For You. Oh Alice?? Oh Alice?? About Grace Slick--?? GoAskAlice Reply's: Grace Slick is a rock music icon, playing as the lead singer of the rock groups Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship for nearly **two decades, from the 60s through the 80s. Want Some Schrooms??

@@juscruzenit Of course I do. What I meant to say that here in the UK, she got little recognition commercially in the late 60s, it wasn't until the 1980s, that she was recognised commercially. I meant underrated in terms of commercial success here. Hope that clear things up a bit 4 u.
