I'd say maybe the impossibly close engagement distances. This entire fight takes place within like a 50m square area. Neither side with a platoon sized force like this would have let each other get that close in open combat like that except in extreme and rare cases, one side would have spotted and opened fire on each other long before it happened here. At least upon running into each other like that one side would have fallen back and regrouped/surrendered, though that's really nitpicking at this point. Plus you wouldn't really have a movie to watch if they filmed a fight at a realistic engagement distance, the two sides would have been too far away from each other to really see anything. General tactics on the Wehrmacht side were pretty good, though, the MG was set up to cover the advancement of the rest of the platoon like how they were usually utilized, though each unit probably would have been equipped with more 34's/42's overall, sometimes more than one per fireteam. This entire production is quite good overall. I'd also add there's a little too much soundtrack going on. The sounds of battle itself is always an ideal soundtrack for war movies.

The realism isn't all that great. There are a few pretty glaring errors that stood out although there are probably more: - The formation that they approach the wood isn't right for the terrain. - The MG is loaded with the belt on upside down and as soon as it has been put into position (in an open field even though there is a wood only 30m behind them) to cover the advance into the woods another soldier walks in front of it making it redundant. - Also, I'm not convinced that soldiers would wear field caps or that an officer would wear his service cap when attacking a position. Still, not a bad effort on a very limited budget!

Strictly speaking, Germany hadn't 'lost' the war - they agreed to a ceasefire based on the promise of a post-war agreement based on President Wilson's 14-Point Plan; however, by the time they had withdrawn and discharged their soldiers, and gone to Versailles, 'the Allies' made all the demands - i.e. the 14-point plan was ignored. Meanwhile, Britain had a naval blockade on Germany until May 1919 (or even July 1919, I can't remember) - putting extra pressure on Germany to agree to all Versailles demands (this blockade led to ca. 1 million combined deaths from starvation in Germany and Austria). An excellent book to explain the history of the region, particularly 1900-1939, is "The War that had many Fathers", by Gerd Schultze-Rhonhof.
