Brody is not that important. He is actually a nobody in Wrestling and the only Reason why everyone talk about him all the time is..cause he was killed.

@mitch In other interviews Dutch admitted that he knew the trial date but did not bother to go to PR. He has never given an explanation for his failure to appear other than the lateness of the execution of those court papers. Furthermore, as he notes in that interview, he was NOT present at the crime scene and could not have provided inculpatory evidence on behalf of the Commonwealth. When Dutch said he could not imagine Carlos Colon or Jovica as having any part in this matter, it would show that Huertas Gonzalez did not give any indication of anticipated hostility. If anything, the defense could use that as proof that hostile intent simply did not exist. That the only possible use of the weapon was self preservation since Brody had been known to be a bully who always demanded extra money in his paycheck. There were no witnesses to the homicide and the Commonwealth could not provide any proof to the jury of malice aforethought or any motivation other than the claimed self defense. This was a very sad situation, indeed. Brody was very popular with the wrestling fans there. His death was a great loss to the sport and to his fans (I among them). But in order to successfully prosecute a homicide of that degree evidence must be presented to a jury. Sadly, no such evidence was available for the Commonwealth's prosecution team. This is why the jury reached its decision in this manner.

This incident was so sad as Brody has always been one of my favorite wrestlers. I met his widow at a wrestling convention where she accepted an award for him.

@@jimh.412 that's what people SAY he said; but the truth is that the only way he could've had an interest was if Gorilla Monsoon would've sold his share to him. WWC has always been a private company, originally owned by Thomas Collado, then sold to Jovica, Colon and Monsoon. Brody probably said that because 1) WWC withdrew from the NWA 2) Gorilla relinquished his part-ownership and he wanted to buy in.

Brody was waiting for a ride from invader who never showed up. Brody was supposed to be killed at the motel. Tony Atlas said when Brody walked in to the arena, Invaders and Carlos were surprised to see him. Carlos probably thought Brody would be murdered at the hotel not at the arena

Carlos knew that he was a threat to them. He didn't want Brody taking control of P.R. which was what was about to happen, they thought Bruiser was gonna change everything and they weren't for it. For some of you that don't know, they originally sent ppl to off him in the hotel he was staying, Bruiser was told by Carlos that they were gonna pick him up so they could all go together to the show, and he waited outside for an hour or so and they never arrived. It's then that Tony sees him on his way out and tells him to ride with them so he doesn't stay there waiting. I do believe they tried to have him killed on the hotel.

Oh, there's no question about that. But it doesn't seem like he had to do too much because the police handled most of that. They were paid off. That's not even a conspiracy theory. Cops taking payoffs in Puerto Rico is pretty common, especially in the 80s. The FBI investigated the national police...

Weren't they all sitting in a huddle talking when Brody walked in the locker room and the killer then got up and asked to talk to Brody? Sounds like he knew

I legit think it was a hit. Brody was owed money how much we'll probably never know and from what I've heard he was either gonna get paid or get a piece of the business and that wasn't gonna happen under Colon my opinion

I disagree and think Carlos and Jovica were in on it for 2 reasons. 1) Put yourselves in their shoes for a second and answer this question. If you were them and you didn't know he was about to do that would you have let him come back and wrestle that night or do you fire him and disassociate yourselves from him? Which they've never said he did anything wrong to this day. 2) According to Tony Atlas, Brody was buying in and when Brody got to the building they were all sitting together minus Brody. It was clear who the outsider was. While I've heard it destroyed the money and business that territory made which maybe they knew or didn't know would happen they knew Invader took a covered knife into the shower he called Brody into and if a man is defending himself he would never carry a knife under a towel. An aggressor does that.

Carlos has acted super strange everytime a question on the matter has been snuck in by a interviewer. He was most definately involved in it. Even if he is innocent of knowing it was going to happen, he is 110% guilty of helping Jose off the hook. So he is at the very least, a steamy pile of sh*t!

Tony Atlas claims he was tipped off- not to go back to the hotel- but to just get the hell outv town. That would indicate to me- that there was an attempted cover up. The damage was done. Nothin left to do- but damage control..i think even if they had nothin to do with the initial intent- they atill had somethin to do with the cover up- in my opinion. Purely speculation of course.

He was tipped off by Savio Vega because Vega was convinced that they were going to murder Tony as well as he had been talking to the police at the stadium Vega said in a shoot interview that as the police were talking to Tony at the stadium the others were saying in spanish they couldn't believe Tony was talking to the police and rhetorically asking does he want to get murdered as well That's why Vega got him from his hotel and got him to the airport as quickly as possible

@shooter7734 yeah- so no way to know 100% who was siding with who. I just believe- had carlose and the other partner really been on the up n up- there wouldve been a diffrent verdict. I also heard a story of either hogan or flair having been over there- and having a gun to their head. Andre the giant defused that situation. Not sure if it was the same situation- but flair was bullied into dropping the title over there- and i think he never went back. It was never acknowledged over here. Who knows though.

I could never see the appeal of Carlos Colon. He has always struck me as a very shady character. I've seen a few of his matches and wasn't impressed. I also believe he knew about Bruiser Brody's murder. Hell, a couple years back the wrestling organization that Colon is part of did a story angle were Invader feuds with Carlos Colon about Colon saving Invader from going to prison for something that happened 30 years ago. Hmmm 🤔. I know that pro wrestling has done it's share of tasteless storylines but the above situation is lower than low.

Obviously I was not there, but I’ve watched and read everything about this situation. I believe Carlos did know what was going to happen. Before and after the attack, if Invader was Carlos’ right hand man, and I believe they were fighting over money and Bruiser beating him up when they were in New York, then I think he’d need an accomplice. Carlos was right there after it happened and then disappeared with Invader to get rid of the knife. Then was laughing and joking with Invader after Bruiser was taken to the hospital, if you’re the promoter how are you ok with that?

Exactly he knew, I used to admire these guys but after I heard this story how they killed Brody I don't like them no more. In PR they should've never put Carlos Colon in hall of fame he doesn't deserve it after covering up this crime

I agree with Dutch. I don't think anyone knew except Invader. I do think Carlos Colon covered up for him though. There is blood on all of their hands, and they should be held accountable and some sort of restitution should be made to Brody's family.

I have followed this story since it happened it shocked the usa, at the time,,Brody bullied invader, because at the time Brody wanted too buy in puerto rico wrestling, and buy out invader who was furious over the idea thats why invader killed him, Brody was working japan 5 times a year and puerto rico also, Brody was a genius knew his value he loved the von eriks in texas and rumor was he was going too wwf/wwe too have a huge run with Hogan!! Brody, was like the spoiler, the original shiek, mark lewin, dr jerry graham, sabu, etc they drew money!!All will be missed

Sad how all of this went down, I guess now people can say what if. I think Brody WAS premeditated murdered but this wrestler got away with it and no one in my opinion really tried to do anything except Tony Atlas. Sad that went down but wasn't enough done about it.

Didn't Carlos Colon saw what happenned? Didn't he saw Jose Gonzalez with the knive. I strongly believe that he helped Gonzalez on the court procedings, and problbly even had prior knlodge of what was going to happen.

I agree that fact that they were sitting when Frank got there doesn't prove no conspiracy and maybe just maybe it was the opposite probably Carlos and jovica was trying to came invader not to do it as they were sitting or they just didn't thought nothing was going to happened now tony atlas is a great guy also was franks angel the night of the murder but I don't think that he was the only one that lifted Brody alone in that ambulance stretcher because Brody was so big and heavy I believe some others wrestlers also help carrying Brody inside the ambulance and also don't think that Carlos wasn't going to do nothing to him it just the way people see things when the adrenaline is pumping but I guess is fair to say he is a good Samaritan.

Yeah...that's true...Carlos, Jovica and several of the boys loved to go to the casinos. Flair told in his bio that Carlos lose 10 grand in one of his visits to the island.

Romnie Garvin said in one of his shoot interviews that around this time Brody was asking for his money or to be bought out. At the exact same time Colon and the WWC promotion were being audited and were facing a huge tax liability . I've never heard tge gambling problem thing but the audit and having a cash crunch is definitely a motive. If Colon doesn't need to pay Brody it frees up some cash .

Carlos Colon’s forehead in that thumbnail is horrifying. I will never understand why wrestlers would intentionally slice open their own forehead on a regular basis. Abdullah, Brody, and Jos LeDuc had pretty gnarly lookin foreheads, too. Wahoo and Dusty, too.

Look at photos of King Curtis Iaukea, especially from his WCW days as the leader of the Dungeon of Doom. His forehead looked like he'd walked headlong into a storm where it was raining double edged razor blades.

For their time period and geographic area, all those men were top income earners and blood feuds drove people to the box office. Even the fans who knew it was fake wanted to get lost in a match and think that they were watching a real fight. They can't punch and kick each other for real, but those punches and kicks sure look more devastating when a guy's face is covered in blood.

You know why Carlos Colón was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame back in the year 2014? Because he was a 26 times Universal Heavyweight Champion; 4 times World Television Champion; 8 times North American Heavyweight Champion and also 9 times Puerto Rican Heavyweight Champion! And Bruiser Brody wasn't inducted posthumously into the Hall Of Fame until 2019 but unfortunately they put him in the Legacy Wing

Carlos and his crew according to tony atlas looked shocked to see brody arrive in the arena. It was later confirmed during the hospital 2 men appeared and told the dr to stop operating on the american wrestler, which probably means they were going to whack brody at his hotel room but he got away earlier thanks to tony atlas giving him a ride to the arena

I tend to agree with Dutch's logic here. Carlos, as a businessman, likely would have put a stop to it if he knew what Invader was gonna do, especially taking into account what a big draw Brody was. There's no way any businessman worth their salt is going to intentionally let someone cut a hole in their wallet.

Tony Atlas said he saw Colon, Invader, and another guy talking in hushed tones when they entered the locker room that day, and they quickly stopped talking when they saw brody. And IIRC Savio Vega in his KC interview with Cornette talked about Colon's involvement. And Vega also talked about how Colon's wrestling TV show was trying to convince the viewers of Invader's innocence every week after the murder. And there is a shoot interview with Colon where he is very clearly lying when talking about brody's death. So yeah, I fully believe Colon was in on it.

Carlos owed Brody 25k and Brody had equity in Carlos' promotion and planned to change things up in the PR. He was a threat to what Carlos and Jose had going on.

I know about double Jeopardy but it should be declared a mistrial because his witnesses were not allowed to speak because they did not get the subpoenas until after the trial was over there for it's a fraudulent trial and it doesn't become double jeopardy Bi-Lo because if that trial had happened in this continental he would have been convicted and the witnesses would have been allowed to speak. To me if there ever was a mistrial than this is it I think legally he should be charged again because the witnesses weren't allowed to speak it was definitely a cover-up. When you cover up and have a crooked Tron it should be a mistrial. Bruiser Brody done so much for Puerto Rico and it got him killed rest in peace legendary bruiser Brody. It doesn't make him any less of a badass because he didn't expect the idiot that pulled a knife out like a coward and got away with murdering arguably but in my humble opinion the best wrestler of the times the only thing that makes me think of conspiracy is what bruiser Brody himself said he told Tony Atlas brother don't let them hurt me anymore. THEM. I am doubtful with the true badass that bruiser Brody was that a single man even with a knife could have stabbed him without there being a knock-down-drag-out.
