What began as a tribute to the 15th Scottish Division, which liberated Tilburg in 1944, is now one of the leading bands of its kind. Right on May 10 consists Dutch Pipes and Drums from Tilburg 60 years and that they celebrate big.

yes they are Dutch. 1. Pipes come (in origin) from the middle east, not Scotland. 2. Dutch Army had a Scottish regiment for over 300 years, mainly they were mercenaries hired from the Scottish government. 3. 11de Lucht Mobiele Brigade (11th Airborne) still has pipes and drums for their tattoo.

Of course everyone has the right to play the bagpipes. To any dissenting Scots I will say, ‘imitation is the best form of flattery’. Wherever Pipe Bands come together they usually play Scottish and occasionally Irish music. They will also often follow the ‘Tattoo’ format which brings thousands together to enjoy and appreciate our music and dance. As a Scot I’m very happy that the Dutch promote a wee bit of Scotland in their musical culture.

Given that bagpipes have featured in images from the Middle East, Europe, and the Fertile Crescent since the time of the Ancient Greeks, the Scots can claim no monopoly. Currently, a not complete list for European countries/regions which have, historically and currently, feature bagpipes -blown or pumped - would include Ireland, Asturias, Galicia, Brittany, Northern Italy, Czech Republic Northumbria, Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey, Canada and the USA.

Hab schon meine 6 Karten!

They could not have been hired from the Scottish Government, it was abolished in 1703 and all power transferred to England until 1990s.
