That is terrible. Was it deserved? I can not answer that. Maybe it was, maybe it was not. The Dutch did both good and bad things, such as warcrimes. My grandfather was a Dutch soldier from 1946-49, as a staff member of a military hospital. Not a person who killed Indonesians, luckily. Many say that the Dutch are to blame for this, but our ancestors are to blame for this, not the children of our grandparents, and certainly not their grandchildren. In my oppinion, both countries should appoligize for what happened and hopefully both countries can help eachother. I have been twice to Indonesia, and Indonesia is a beautiful country. The current developments in law saddens me, but that doesn't means that every Indonesian is to blame for.

What happened, is sad. That it happened, does not mean that every Dutch person liked and still likes what happened. In my oppinion, both sides omitted warcrimes. And both sides should appoligize to eachother for that. During the so called bersiap period, many Dutch women and children where killed by Indonesians. Hopefully both countries can learn to work closer with eachother, and good things comes out of this.

+Dewie Dunn Dutch is not really the language of East Indie, coz even back on that time, only few ultra rich and powerful local (that can afford dutch expensive school) could speak dutch. Why we have to learn Dutch just to learn history??? What's the point??? But i am just common people, not an historian :-) so i feel don't really need to learn a language just to learn a history (unless i think differently on the future :-) ). Regarding the mountain of document in dutch, we have historian, we have translater. If then we think the "food" they provide us taste too much prejudice, find another "food" as comparation (which is not really hard to find since reform era). Now in Indonesia, we should at least learn 3 basic language at school (local, bahasa indonesia and english), unless i was eager to be spesific tourist guide, or i have interest in spesific language, learning another one (on purpose just to learn history) is a bit too much. Or maybe if i was planning to switch my bloody art and design school with language (dutch) school - disregard where to find it in Bali. Then it will be a pain in the bump scenario for amateur history enthusiast ordinary person like me. But anyway, thanks for your reply. :-)
