The Dulo Leuku uses K390! one of the best steels in terms of edge retention we have ever tried! not only that! it is laminated in N690 which is a good steel in itself! Finished with a Hamon finish, ivory micarta, mosaic pins and a stabilized wooden burl handle this knife is not only a beast but also a piece of art!

Probably not hard with proper hardware. I doubt hardware store $10 sharpening stones will work.

K390 isn't that terrible. Anyway no steel is with a decent set of diamond stones and Venev now produce "affordable" resin bonded ones

Once you get used to it not bad. Takes longer than other knives but you do not have to sharpen it often. Even missed and whacked my dulo on a rock while batoning, knife edge was fine 😳

Kevin J Renkavinski (Mega Woods Walker) passed away in January (Heart Disease). He was a Great Outdoor skills teacher. The outdoor community is now one family member short. He will be missed. I’m beyond sad. All of the Bushcraft folks please wash your hands and cover your mouth. Bushcraft skills are so important. Thanks again for the the excellent content you guys have been putting out. I've been waiting 6 months, Dulo said it would be 9 months. I ordered with black micarta instead of ivory but the price I believe is the same. The emails have actually auto deleted but if I recall it was just under 400 U.S dollars

DBK my friends, thanks for the video. I have been bin watching all of the videos for 1 week at home. I finally got in touch with Dulo today and he is making me the Dulo Leuku with black micarta ends instead of white (k390 laminated N690). He is also making me a DBK knife with vanadis 4e. He said 6 months and it will be ready. While I wait, I have just ordered a Bark River Gunny 3V convex. I wanted to order a scandi but like you said “I bloody can’t”. Love the videos and thanks for educating me on knives.

@@ssunfish yes I have both and it actually took over a year not 6 months. Well worth the wait though. I have about 20 Bark River knives, but my Dulo knives are by far my favorite. The leather work can’t be matched, and the knives are perfectly made without a flaw. I like bark river but they don’t always come in perfect. For the money you cannot beat Dulo.

Just ordered the Puukko version ten minutes ago, 260 eros including delivery to the UK the man is mad, thank God, I have seen other makers charge twice, three times as much for half the knife (you know what I mean) "How sharp is it? I don't know I only got the handle." Ten months waiting time, no problem for this, I can wait but barely.

Yeah, Dulo knives are crazy good. I only have one knife from Svetlozar, a puukko in Vanadis 4E and I love the knife. The craftsmanship is amazing, even the sheath is great. Was waiting for it for 3 months, but let me tell you, it was well worth the wait.

That’s not a bad wait time at all. I was thinking 6 months. I ordered two from him a month ago. It would be awesome to get them earlier. I asked for the DBK knife in Vanadis 4E, and the Leuku in k390 laminated n690 except mine will have black micarta ends instead of white. I have been buying bark river knives this year to. I am not good at sharpening and have tried researching what wet stones I will need. I know the k390 will probably need diamond stones. I have 2 cpm3v BR blades, 1 cru-wear, and 1 elmax. Any thoughts on grits or where to buy a good set of stones just to get started. I also need a strop but don’t really know what I should put on it for grit

@@Colonel1Bravo well if your knives are not really very dull, you will be fine witb just 1000 and perhaps 5000 grit. The finishing you do on the strop. I use the green classic compound. I do not have knives that nee diamond stones co can't tell about them.

@@Colonel1Bravo I started with cheap stones and then I awarded myself with a few Japanese ones. For example Shapton or King brands are good. It takes some practice tbough. But its relaxing 😊

@@ComputersHowtos I have some shapton in my amazon cart and a couple ninawa (spelling) chosera stones. I saw the King brand but wasn’t sure so that helps me decide. Man the prices add up quick in the cart for several pieces but I invested enough in some good knives I will feel better with a good stone while learning. Don’t want to mess them up

Not totally related but maybe for a future vid could you guys look into Entrek knives? He makes a Scandi bushcrafting knofe as well as others. He uses 440c but the heat treat is well done and makes for a rugged knife!

For a some time already I’ve been dreaming about a double leuku made from Japanese laminated carbon steel with white paper steel core. The laminated blade of this video seems to be very nice indeed but I prefer low alloy carbon steel. I need to make my dream come true somehow. It will be a perfect fusion of the knife making tradition of Japan and Lapland.

@@ssunfish Actually I have got something like that. Todor Hristov from Bulgaria has made me a really cool knife. It’s a traditional Finnish puukko knife in shape but has a laminated Japanese blue paper steel blade, birch bark handle and damascus steel cladding/bolsters.

I have one piece that is 410 stainless laminated to 26C3 which I'm told is of the composition of Hitachi White Paper steel alloy. I'm drawing up different designs to make the best for this one piece.

Forgive me if this rubs you wrong, but I would say, NEVER take any more English classes to perfect your understanding of the intricacies of the language. You are both very articulate with small mistakes in the language, but those little mistakes are very endearing, and make me want to keep coming back for more. I suspect that English speaking girls/women will be every bit as intrigued as I am. But aside from that, as a bushcrafter, I certainly appreciate and have learned from your knife reviews...Thank You.

I did give it a few strops just after getting it out of the box. I do that to every knife to make sure the edge is clean and to give them all a littly extra sharpness

For k390 we use naniwa diamond stones. Prepare to be poor though... Haha
