In this video I will explain how the mini round baler works in detail and what modifications I have made to improve it.
Converted from 3 point hitch type to trailed type
Removed stand alone hydraulic pump and connected to tractor hydraulics
Modified fully mechanical mousetrap mechanism to automated action by Siemens S7 PLC and in cab touch screen
Added Agreto PFM II online moisture monitoring

Interesting. Quite a few mods. I assume there are versions which come equipped with those straight from factory. I've been looking at small round balers for a while but are hard to come by here in ireland. Is there equipment to lift several small rounds at the same time? Other wise they appear old school labour intensive. Advantages for me is that I have small but sloping fields, so lighter on ground than convential small square. Thankyou

Found your video as we were looking for ibex tx31. Love the tow hitch. Seeing your modification makes us think more highly about purchasing one. Love some better picture or video of how you mounted it.. if you don't mind someone copying your work. Thanks

also, i like the trailer mod, but the one sold by ibex is just one piece of metal to the top hitch point, not two for an a frame so the ibex uses a lot less metal and has more room for access to the front of the baler

Nice video and work. What model baker is that? I haven’t seen one like that in Canada before. When I searched Haybob 300 on the Internet only hat rake / tedders show up.

Hi John, I think they are sold in Canada under the name Ibex TX31.This is a similar type baler, it might even come from the same factory.

Will you be putting out some kind of all in one kit for these upgrades?

I have no real plans for that but I might be able to help you out for 95%. But you will have to do some work yourself, no rocket science though.

@DutchHorseGuy it would be great if you could add your reasoning for equipment choices you have made. For instance, what were the reasons you chose a small round baler instead of a small square baler or a large round baler? It seems that the productivity of a small round baler is very low compared to the other two choices and the equipment cost for a small square baler is not much higher. Operating costs for the small round baler seems higher than for the other two choices as well.

For me this is a side job and I used to hire a contractor with a small square baler. I looked for a second hand square baler but my contractor advised me not to go that road for reliability reasons. Old square balers tend to malfunction quite often and need quite a bit of maintenance. So I looked for new equipment. A square baler is approx 4x more expensive than a small round baler. And the round baler has a very simple design (no knotters) so there is not much that can go wrong. If it does, you can fix it yourself in the field. It takes a bit longer to bale, it takes a bit more twine. But for the few bales that I make (less than 500 per year) that's no big deal.

the moisture meter is no good, it has to have a sensor ACROSS the bale, the one i made has two plates, one on each side of chamber, then my control unit that operates the baler doors etc also knows of desired bale density and that info is passed onto the moisture meter which must be aware of bale density for accurate measurements

hi how many hrs does it take to bale 10acres? how is the reliability?

The reliability is good. No knotters, simple technology. Not much can go wrong and if it does you can fix it yourself in the field. No need for a mechanic. How long it takes to bale depends very much on the field and how much hay is there. But if you have a nice square and flat 10 acre field and the windrows are nice and straight and medium size I think you'll be able to finish it in about one day. If there is a lot of hay and you have big windrows it might take longer. If there is little hay you can drive faster and it takes less time.

Mooi! Ik hebzelfde machine maar ondervind steeds problemen met het touw die niet goed mee neemt. Kan je mij soms het type/ dikte touw doorgeven wat jij gebruikt?

Johan, ik gebruik sisal 330. Ik ken het probleem, meestal betekent dat dat je hooi te droog is. Dus je moet iets eerder gaan persen (korter laten drogen). Waar je ook op kunt letten is dat je de rol ietsje dikker maakt aan de linkerkant waar hij begint met wikkelen. Dus een klein beetje uit het midden rijden. Nog een tip is om de 2 rollen waar het touw valt te coaten met antislip botenverf bijvoorbeeld van epifanes. Hopelijk heb je hier iets aan. Groeten

DutchHorseGuy , alvast bedankt voor het antwoord. Achter sommige van uw tips was ik ook al gekomen en het trouw neemt nu meestal wel goed mee als het tussen de rol terecht komt. Het grootste probleem is nu dat bij het vallen van de arm het touw niet tussen de rol en het hooi komt. Daardoor denk ik aan het trouw te kronkelig is of te dun of niet soepel genoeg? Die oliepomp vind ik ook maar zo en zo. Kan ik deze gewoon aansluiten op de olie aansluitingen van tractor dubbel werkend ? Net ook eens wat filmpjes gepost ;)

Johan Dat probleem met het touw ken ik niet. Misschien inderdaad een ander type touw proberen. Je kunt die hydraulische leidingen inderdaad gewoon doorzetten naar je dubbelwerkende op de trekker. Ik ga jouw filmpjes eens bekijken 👍🏻 succes

@@dutchhorseguy7145 ik heb meer fotos dan film, ga er in vervolg wel meer op letten eens meer een film maak. Vind het alvast heel boeiend hoe jij die mimi baler automatiseerde, Top! Zelf heb ik zo automatische aangestuurde hooiruiven gemaakt voor die kleine ronde balen. Werkt echt top hoor. Je neemt vlak transportbandje van ongeveer 300cm op 55cm op de kop een rooster... stuurt dat tranportbandje aan met een multifunctionele tijdrelais. In mijn geval voor 2 paarden om de 2 uur 10cm opschuift. Indien je interesse heb maak ik wel eens filmke van, fotos heb ik wel. Kunnen zo dagen verder zonder om te zien, eten rustiger en regelmatiger. Laat het gras maar vlug weer groeien hé ;-)
