I just found out (the hard way) that you must rotate the pin to the angle shown in the video, and you must do so before you start hammering. If you hammer the pin straight down the tube it will engage the gear wheel and you will not be able to hammer it further out AND you will no longer be able to rotate the pin to a different angle. It will be stuck. The handle will not turn. That is where I am now, wondering what to do next. My eventual solution was to force the handle to turn, causing the pin to bend and break. This required a lot of torque! I had to cut off the hand-grip part of the handle, and then slide an 18 inch cheeter bar over the the remaining part of the handle and crank the thing hard. This did not damage the gear wheel. A final difficult part was getting the new pin started in the little hole. Final solution: Slide the pin onto the skinny end of a 1/16 punch, and then use the punch to hold the pin in place while lightly tapping the punch with a hammer just to get it started. Then drive it in the rest of the way using your largest punch.

We were sorry to hear that you had this problem when replacing your jack's handle, but you did the correct thing by forcing the handle to turn to break the pin inside of it. However, we're very surprised that you had such trouble forcing the handle to turn. In our numerous experiences with this process over the years, we've never had to use a cheater bar to break that pin, so we're not sure why you had such trouble.

What if your sidewinder doesn't have a roll pin retaining the shaft? How is it held in? Mine is a Curt 2000lb, new

I need to add a 5mm through HOLE IN the space between handle and top edge of jack. I will add one part above it using this hole. Please send distance of handle location from top edge. and also dia of handle. For DL22530 , 1000 LBS JACK

I forcibly turned it just like you said but instead of my pin breaking my gear broke 😡

Do you guys have any canadian suppliers for parts? I need a new handle for my jack but shipping from the states to BC canda is way too expensive

Thanks for your question! Most of our suppliers don't stock parts or have them available, but you can check with large national retailers like Acklands Grainger, Fastenal, or Amazon to see if you can find the handle you're looking for.

Can you switch the handle from front to back of jack, truck gate won't open with trailer hooked up.

Thanks for your question but, unfortunately, no- it is not possible to switch the installation of your jack's handle to the back of the jack.

Thanks for your question! The first replacement handle shown in the video is part #22446, which is a replacement handle for side wind jacks with a 2" outer tube and a date code after the 42nd week of 1996. It can be purchased here: www.dutton-lainson.com/proddetail.php?prod=22446
