ΔV, Delta-V Rings of Saturn: "Big Bad Wolf" Hunting achievement, "smell my exhaust" method :D

Playing some ΔV again. 0:00 Start, 1:00 Jump to Wolf, 1:50 encounter, 7:00 giving final burn and BOOM. Collect some Rocks after that, what the game is mostly like - unless you fly a heavily damaged ship like I do. 12:00 Oh a dead ship to capture and sell! I need that money.
Up to now I always avoided "Big Bad Wolf". But then I thought: Well give it a shot, literally. And I even managed to give it the last push using the cool "smell my exhaust" way.

I blew up bbw twice, once using the triple engine cothon with this method and another by docking with it using an EIME with NANI+dual cl600 lasers

What lasers are those, and how are they tuned? I always seem to have no luck using pulse lasers as weapons, even tuning them for max power and low frequency. I just opted for keeping one microwave point defense on my ship. That EMP effect is fantastic. Haven’t tried triple mass drivers or something like that yet though.

For this ship it is the CL-600P Mining Laser, the laser power is set to 990 Megawatt (maximum), the pulse frequency is set to 24 Hz. That is fairly efficient to chase enemies away, or to blow them up if you manage to hit their reactor. Just keep your nose directed to the enemy, cause your nose can take quite some damage. Extra hint: Backup or zip your %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\dV to have extra save games.

Okay I had to search for that, I found the cat-like race with its non-cat-like ears. Do you refer to a specific episode I should watch?

It's a reference to Known Space (they were written into Star Trek when Niven was writing for Trek). A species called the Kzinti attack humanity after humanity has demilitarized and no longer technically has weapons. What they do have is massive lasers used in their drive system and for communication which are fully capable of cutting a ship in half. It goes poorly for the Kzinti.

@@JouMxyzptlk The Kzinti Lesson weapon is a direct reference to Larry Niven's novels. It's humanity that actually teaches this lesson to the Kzinti in a war, which is "an engine's efficiency is directly proportional to its value as a weapon," because any ship that can cross interstellar distances is putting out so much energy that all it needs to do is flip and burn its enemies to a crisp. Ergo the saying, "there's no such thing as an unarmed spaceship."

I am not attacked by Wolf any more. It tried to "harvest" my ship, in whole, repeatedly.

Where can you find the big ship?

Oh, just fly in deep enough! Some day you will get a "Drop point" mission which will lead you straight to that ship. Or, if you have a good astrogator, you will find it directly.

@@JouMxyzptlk I just encountered it as regular "Radar Anomaly" encounter really close to the edge of the rings. First ship I ever took down, too. Hah.

Wow, that constant reactor alarm is incredibly annoying. That cant be normal right?

Indeed annoying, I did turn the volume down. And of course it if not normal when you ship is on the verge to explode :D. And the computer is glitching too. And your controls are a bit off since the nozzles are banged. Then you simply accept the alarm blaring as the least problem :D.
