What a lyrical performance. Her violin sings throughout. Music making is not measured by timings but how it touches our soul and heart. I simply relaxed and surrendered to her performance. Thank you Arabella for making this music live.

So so so beautiful...

The more I listen to this violonist I did not know, the more I am impressed. Rather slow tempo for the first movement in order to make it sing as much as possible. Dvorak's concerto is quite beautiful with some superb lines but it is really tricky for the performers to offer a good rendition of it.

Greatest! Incomparable! Beautiful and firing!

Just a few observations: Steinbacher is music itself; her phrasing is hypnotic; she is the epitome of composure; she is a joy to watch as well as listen to; this concerto is a lot more difficult than it seems; she has a habit of throwing her right arm back just as Ivry Gitlis does; at 23:56 she makes eye contact with the first stand but the concertmaster is wound up tighter than a Gordian knot; at 32:24 she has a slight memory lapse regarding the fingering but covers it very nicely and then smiles afterward. Bravo!!!

És una versió un pèl lenta però l'orquestra puntualitza i acota a la solista. Ajuda a frasejar al violí i, a més, l'orquestra en ésser més quadrada dóna més estabilitat: Solemnitat general. Felicitats al director!

Dvorak once said how inadequate he was in comparison to Brahms. I don't like to compare cause I think each is simply different in his or own way but all I can say is that everything I have heard by Dvorak has been simply amazing.

This concerto is a straight fuckin banger. I don't understand why it's not more popular. That 3rd movement got me headbanging every single time. So so so good!

How come anything Dvorak writes is so much better than anything I hear from the likes of any 20th Century composer aside from Rachmaninoff??

Steinbacher does a good job of capturing the Slavic flair of Dvorak and this piece, but the pace is rather slow and deliberate for my taste. The performance loses some fire and dynamism. This performance is 2-4 minutes slower than most, and a whopping 5 1/2 minutes slower than Milstein's legendary recording with Steinberg and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Steinbacher's 1716 "Booth" Stradivari sounds luscious, though. Interestingly, both Steinbacher and Janine Jansen are the same age, and both play post-1710 Stradivari. I think Jansen is a better player, though.
