This is my first ever (deep water culture) Hydroponic setup and Im amazed how fast it has grown. It's been 30 days since I planted the seeds and figured I would show you before I harvest. I highly recommend hydroponics its fast and very easy just plant and sit back and wait.

Hi Jay, your lettuce looks great. I messed around with different varieties of lettuce, and I settled on a variety called Jericho Hybrid Lettuce. The leaves get from 12 -16" long and it puts up with Summer heat better than other varieties. Nice video.

so healthy looking. I have some week old grand rapids lettuce growing in my setup at the moment. It looks pretty pale and sickly by comparison.

Great setup! I was glad you mentioned that if I grew outside that it would use more water. That was true for me. I was wondering how you used so little water :) I like to harvest a little at a time and if you let the grow more than 30 days they really take off in size. But with the spacing you are using, I don't know how much longer you could let them grow. Thank you for sharing new sub :)

Very nice! Congrats! Beautiful roots on that lettuce! We you surprised how crispy the lettuce was? Amazing isn't it? Did you measure PH or EC (PPM)? I give this video a green thumbs up! Dale
@usc529
@usc529 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks yes it was very crispy. This was my first try at hydroponics and was looking into getting a ph ppm meter found out the one I wanted blulab guardian monitor was over $250 so Im gonna wait lol. I bought some ph strips though and measured the ph but the ppm I just went by the instructions on the back of the bottle.

Well done! You know that you dont have to cut of the total plants to harvest, right? Just pick the mature leafs and you keep harvesting for while on the same plant.

with all this e coli issues with lettuce/spinach/ etc i am looking to start a small indoor dwc setup. exactly like u did. and your came out amazing. i cant believe it was only 30 days from seed!! normally it takes 5 just to germinate the seeds. that is incredible! im looking forward to start mine. what type of lights are you using? is it just a regular shop light from lowes? or is it a special grow light?
@usc529
@usc529 5 жыл бұрын
Yea I was surprised myself lol I started my seeds on a heat mat and dome so they germinated a lot faster. The light I used is a sun blaze 44 and sun blaze 48 they both have t5 bulbs and let off a lot of light. I think I had the light on about 12 hours a day.

#usc5299 very cool growth you had there. What made you decide not to go with the Kracky method? Or maybe I should ask what made you decide to use the air stones? Rick in NC
@usc529
@usc529 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks It was easier for me to do it this way. I was gonna either use the rounds ones or the 12" long ones and couldn't find the longs ones so I got the round air stones.

Such big bins must release lots of evaporated water in the summer, i fear the moisture would damage the house interior ?
@usc529
@usc529 4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t have any damage. The lid locks onto the tote and the water stops right at the bottom of the cups so no water came out.

usc5299 I bet you are !! hahaha...You are so funny. I just picked a nice size pile of swiss chard, Kale and Arugula from my gardens. It is November 10 and I live in Maine. I am so pleased with that. I did have some in the greenhouse as well, but half of it was from the outside lettuce bed. Oops, I apologize, I must not have watched the entire video, otherwise I wouldn't have asked about the fertilzier...sorry =)

hey JAY, my lettuce isnt doing so great after 2 weeks in a dwc system, transferred from soil. i can see it has established roots for the water but the leaves go soft when it's getting hit by full sun? max temps of 21-23 Cº and humidity ranging from 50-80%.
@usc529

The issue with hydroponics is that you will have to purchase "plant food" or nutrition and supplements which can be more costly.

You’re a troll... You go to all these videos and say the same shit. Yeah, aquaponics are cool, but you need large systems which are quite costly, so get lost bimbo.
@jetthill
@jetthill 9 жыл бұрын
More costly than the hundreds of pounds of fertilizers needed to fertilize a single field? Hardly. Hydroponics is cheap, really cheap. That's why third world countries use it. You can fertilize the water with a dead fish and it would still work. The other guy is right, you're a troll and a horrible marketing strategist. You comment on every single video, and it's always the same shit. Aquaponics has a HUGE buy-in and it's not efficient for large scale production. Get lost, bimbo.
