What's life like for a child prodigy? This video accompanies David Garrett through use of historical footage, and letting the star violinist speak for himself. Garrett became world famous early on as a 'wunderkind' - a child prodigy - and has had an incredible career ever since. That success makes it all the more astonishing how candidly and critically the violinist talks about his childhood, and the people who surrounded him at the time. His telling of it thoroughly dispenses with the two-fold myth: The child genius who is met with fascination on one hand, and rejection on the other. Garrett's view of the notable burdens and hardships he went through during his childhood is not a negative one, however. On the contrary: He is full of gratitude towards his parents. Through careful reflection upon all aspects of life as a wunderkind, this exposé ultimately leaves the question open of whether it is a blessing, or a curse. Viewers are left to form their own opinion - perhaps the greatest strength of this portrait of David Garrett.

Deutschland braucht nichts um wieder 'stolz' zu sein. ...ich bin wohl die Einzigste die diese Meinung von ihm hat: übertrieben, unreal, unwirklich, hochgefährlich, vollkommen indiskret. Garett quält sein Publikum und behinderte Menschen; er macht Musik der sexclusivitäten willen und weil es für ihn selbstverständlich ist. Nur über seinen Künstlernamen saugt er seine Heimat aus. Ich sehe manchmal seine Videos an - und habe den Ton ausgestellt. Und nun - die Beine in die Hand nehmen...

I wish there were English subtitles, I live in western Canada from English ancestors and now 73 I’m too old to learn another language . I only discovered David in December 2023 and wished I had discovered him years ago!

Die kindlichen Erfahrungen, die Er alle NICHT machen durfte! Na, ich weiß ja nicht! David hatte so viele Entbehrungen deswegen! Yes, David, we get nothing for nothing. The gift, the talent, is good but insufficient if there is no learning and diligent work.. The parents have contributed as well as the teachers to this success. And it is commendable to recognize this and remain kind and humble. Das Konzert auf Taormina ist das schönste, welches ich je von David gesehen habe ( leider nicht live). In zauberhafter Umgebung , mit einem wunderbaren Programm. Ich habe es mir bestimmt schon 10 Male angeschaut auf ZDFMEDIATHEK, kann nicht genug kriegen. Alles stimmte. Danke sehr 🙏

Se de David hace muy poco, desde Diciembre cuando vi la pelìcula el violinista del diablo. Y comencè a seguirlo nùnca he visto un concierto de el en vivo. Pero creo que todos son maravillosos aunque tengo que decir que el de Taormina fue bello tambièn he tenido que verlo varias veces. Me encanta.🌹

Um comentário para elogiar David é pouco. Quanto mais escuto suas músicas e assisto aos seus vídeos me convenço que o talento e a sensibilidade desse artista somados ao caráter admirável dificilmente encontrará alguém que o supere. É um gênio daqueles que há muito tempo não nascia nesse planeta . Gratidão imensa , David . Gratidão a Deus que nos deu você de presnte !

Wonderful, David! I can't help the feeling that in his late interviews the reporters try to insinuate that it is some kind of child abuse to foster your kid's talent. Of course, none of the successful musicians or athletes get to the top without hard work and sacrifice. And usually, in their adulthood they understand the purpose and thank their parents, teachers and coaches. I'm happy that David's parents encouraged their son to play the violin instead of Playstation. The world is one great artist richer now.

Dieser Bemerkenswert begabte und reflektierte Künstler verdient nicht nur weltweiten Applaus für seine musikalische Virtuosität und den enormen Arbeitsfleiß, sondern auch ein riesiges Dankeschön für seine Pionierarbeit innerhalb der klassischen Musik: Mit seinem genialen rockigen Cross-over-Spiel bringt er einem modernen Publikum auch jenseits elitärer Konzertsäle wunderschöne klassische Musik nahe und sichert damit deren generationenübergreifende Weitergabe für die Zukunft. Hoffentlich ist ihm auch privates Glück und genügend Zeit für sich selbst beschieden.

Сколько серьёзного уважения к тебе, мальчику, проявляли взрослые музыканты, дирижёры, учителя. Это ведь тоже незримо входит в процесс воспитание гения. Не было умиления, снисхождения к детскому возрасту, - а было глубокое понимание, что перед ними редчайший бриллиант, настоящий гений, которого нужно воспринимать всерьёз. И опять выскажу благодарность твоим родителям. Это их великая заслуга, что к тебе, ребёнку, с самых юных лет взрослый музыкальный мир начал относиться как к равному, талантливому юному Маэстро. И пусть твои детские годы были, по твоему образному выражению золотой клеткой и "обувной коробкой", но, наверно, так надо было. Мальчик не просто чудо-ребёнок, а гений. И если отец - строгость, дисциплина и лучшие учителя, то мама - доброта, золотое сердце, сострадание и даже сценическое имя, как будто так было задумано в самых высоких сферах. Твоё сценическое имя ложится на язык как песня: Дэвид - Дэвид Гарретт. А в сочетании с титулами звучит как имя короля Музыки Маэстро-виртуозо - Мастер - Гений Дэвид Гарретт. Долгой-долгой жизни как прекрасной песни, Музыки и творчества, Маэстро Дэвид - Дэвид Гарретт.

Watching kids performing is always so emotional, watching such young gifted natural talents, David is such a huge inspiration for everybody indeed. Every job is an artistic achievement, one percent of natural talent, the others 99% are marketing strategy, David is a very good manager as well , a very charming performer, audience is delighted and bewitched, audience feels like they know what to expect but still, they expect from David cute surprises and he is very good to manage this relationship, it's...not an easy job to do. I am not that lucky, l am not ...that gifted, you see, it's not an easy job to do.

This is a story about David Garrett, who is being praised as a genius violinist from Germany! He says he started playing the violin at the age of 4, what a genius! I remember watching Coldplay's famous song 'Viva la Vida' play during my trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2017, and it was great to see a video about David Garrett like this today! That was a great video!

So happy to see David is living freely now and found himself in music again after the childhood experience he had. Good day, I know about great violonist David Garrett since January 2024, during a net searching about some information in health aspects;; there was a title "Imagine" with David Garrett. I listen the music, I like it and from that day I began to search and I enjoy listening. After that I listening different interviews, those in English helped me to understand what means the succes of David Garrett: music loving, hard work, ambitious, tenacity, courage to find its own way, honesty, organized to fulfil its dreams, ....( the list is long..). I read some bad comments and I want to say that always people are very resistant at major changes - this crossover music, classic music mixed with other type of music. Today we see: 1)Classic music can live together with other types of music, it is enough place for all; 2) Concerts kept by David Garrett and his team are appreciated by public - why? - music is very nice, people accept classic mussic with entuziasm, repertoir is very well chossen, messsage of the songs is about a better world by contribution of us,, nice emotions, deep as meaning ...3) I consider that David Garrett, that work continuosly (he being a very creative person, his mind is on mussic) is on the right way on his carreer and I don' t imagine him in a symphonic orchestra playing violin . From this interview results that, David by growing up understands the efforts done by his parrents and they all are in peace together - for that David deserve a great RESPECT as well as their parrents. Why I said that ? Answer - all parrents wish all the best for their children..May be David parrents had major difficulties in their childhood, keeping in mind changes were produced in Europa. In these conditions, in their child soul they affraid and that determine the approach of their life and later of their child. So, I believe is not better to judge them but more that that we should appreciate the power and sincerity of David to share it with all of us and each of us should learn from it and to look for appropriate method in education of your own children in accordance of the type of society in which live. More than all I wrote above I want to mention some more important aspects of David caracter: he is inteligent and wise, is calm, is polite, has management abilities and he has a very strong definition of freedom.. Congratulations David! PS - I written an assumption about the childhood of David parrents BECAUSE my mom and my dad suffered in their childhood (mom was 7 years at the end of second war - her familly was devastated; something similar was happen with my father familly) and during their lives they confrunted with different himeras and fot that they were very prudent and very exigent person.. SO is not right to judge, is right to be positive and to look inside of us first and don'take the rock to threw it..... For all readers - keep your health and try each day to be better than yersterday.

@Nina Ioana Beim ersten Satz stimme ich dir zu. Beim zweiten glaube ich, du solltest mal seine Biografie lesen (obwohl es auch deutlich genug in dem Interview herauszuhören ist). Er stand in der Kindheit so immens unter Druck und war für den Familienfrieden verantwortlich. Daran ist er fast zerbrochen. Klar haben sie sein Talent gefördert, aber zu welchem Preis?! Mir tut er leid. Er hat aus meiner Sicht nie eine wirkliche Kindheit gehabt und wurde gestriezt bis zum Umfallen. Da war es auch egal, ob er hohes Fieber hatte und dolle krank war, er musste auf die Bühne. Und das beschreibst du als wunderbare Eltern. Ich finde das eher unmenschlich und würde mein Kind niemals so behandeln.

It’s good he is bursting the wunderkind-bubble. It’s naive to think that any artistic accomplishment comes without hard work. For him, it worked out and he can make peace with the drill. When seeing the number of prodigies though, not all make it beyond reaching adulthood. Makes me wonder what they think, having had to endure the drill but not reaching fame.
