First time I've heard Cosby's routine. Love it!!! Love the car too. R & T did a Road Test (0-100mph-0) of the Cobra alongside a 'Vette and Porsche. Cobra won hands down though they had to piece together data on the Cobra because it kept breaking the test equipment. R.I.P. Carroll Shelby - You were a special person.

"...I'll drive by Steve McQueen's house and put em down... WWWWWWBBGGGGGGRRRRYWWWWW!!!!!" My father kept this cassette tape in the console of his 68 Mustang. When I was born, I grew up washing the car and going for rides in it. He would keep this cassette tape and some Gene Pitney tapes in the car. From the moment I could walk and talk, I knew who Gene Pitney & Bill Cosby were. I'm 29 years old now, and my father is 74 years old. I don't care about the current Bill Cosby rape allegations or whatever. This skit reminds me of my father and the time he gave us. I'd go to school in the early 90's and I'd be drawing these cars with these "PIPES, PIIIIIIPES COMIN OUT THE SIDE, 18, 19 DIAMETER, SONOMETER PIIIIIPES MAN" on all the drawings as a kid. None of the other kids in the class understood what I was carrying on about, not even the teacher. Not even my wife understands me with this, today. But I knew what I was talking about as a kid. And I still know today. Now I drive the Mustang. And I still could recite this skit word for word, because of my Dad.

The car he talks about in this routine was sold after he drove it one time.. it scared him that bad.. the man who bought it was actually killed in that car in an accident. This made the other car now teh only one left..

0-60 mph in in under 4 The car was fast. In 1968 Road & Track achieved 0-60 mph times in the 3.8 second range, with the quarter-mile coming up in 11.86 seconds at 115 mph. Horsepower output was reputed to be about 800, but that number was provided by Shelby, and the editors at R&T had trouble publishing an undocumented number of that magnitude. After several road tests, and not wanting to offend ol’ Shel, the writers deemed the power to be “more than adequate.” The second Super Snake, CSX 3303, was sold to actor/comedian Bill Cosby in 1968. Shelby networked the Hollywood crowd as well as anyone, and chided the comic for his addiction to foreign sports cars. Cosby finally succumbed to the Texan’s needling and purchased the second SS. If there was a love affair with the car, it didn’t last long, as Cosby returned it within a month. The story goes that the car scared the daylights out of him, but generated good material for his nightclub routine. After Cosby, 3303 made its way to S & C Ford in San Francisco. The next owner was Tony Maxey, who was ticketed by the CHP for speeding, then lost control of the car and launched it off a cliff into Half Moon Bay. The car was demolished and Maxey died a few days later. Around the same period, Shelby sold CSX 3015 to Jimmy Webb, the noted song-writer, for a paultry $10,500. Webb was famous for writing a number of hits for Glen Campbell, including “Galveston,” “Wichita Lineman,” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” Webb later told Shelby that he had turned down $1.2 million for the car during the collector car bubble of 1989-90. SEIZED BY THE IRS AND SOLD Unfortunately for Webb, his accounting skills didn’t match his songwriting skills and he wound up owing the government millions in back taxes. CSX 3015 was seized by the IRS and auctioned off in 1995 for $375,000. As mentioned earlier, the $5.5m paid at Barrett-Jackson for CSX 3015 represents a high water mark for any Shelby. Only the Daytona coupes come close.

Yep, that's what I was talking about. Get yourself a 10" deck that plays both directions & changes sides by itself and, at 3 3/4 IPS, you can have 6.5 hours of music non-stop (except for the dead air at the end of each side). IF you want to risk it and don't mind lesser sound, Radio Shuck has 7" reels that play 3 hours & 14 minutes a side. Splice 2 of those together onto a 10" reel & with the same deck as above, you can get 13 hours of non-stop music, if the tape doesn't snap from the tension!!

They took this cobra to the Salt Flats for a test drive. The driver got it to 190 mph and shut it down. He said it was only 1/2 throttle and it was starting to lift. It was fast, but aero dynamically unsound. It was that HICKIE that screwed things up.
@willspicer3190
@willspicer3190 5 жыл бұрын
If Carol had of built a Supersnake version from a Daytona Roadster, with a little bit of modified aero I believe he could have set WELL over 200mph record even bsck then. The Daytona Coupe was much more aero friendly then the Cobra. Or even better, build a 900hp twin supercharged GT. Now that would have really bombed the top speed record, especially of they put a taller final gear. Eirher way it was and still is an amazing car and it sold for record money. 5.5 million (plus buyers tax) I believe

As history shows, CSX 3015 is one of two Super Snake Cobras built. The other being CSX 3303 built for Bill Cosby. CSX 3303 was a 1967 427 street car retained by Shelby American as a PR car and then made into a Super Snake for Bill Cosby. Cosby's record album titled '200 MPH' attests to the fact of why he only drove it once before returning it to Shelby American. Shelby American sold it to S and C Motors in San Francisco, who then sold it to their customer, Tony Maxey. Maxey destroyed himself an
