Frank Zappa is a genius and it is so beautiful that his son keeps his music alive so people now can enjoy what his father created. R.I.P FZ.

how deep seated the pain really is ... more than 20 years after Frank's passing, it's still coming to the surface once in a while. what a beautiful melody and intense, expressive playing. As fresh, exciting and moving as if it was written yesterday.

Having an epic iconic guitarist for a father, and teachers such as Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, + many other guitar legends, tends to produce one such beast of a guitar god as Dweezil Zappa.

I’ve been listening to FZ since 1973-74… Over-Nite Sensation was how I got started, and I’ve been listening to his music ever since. I always thought that Joe’s Garage was an awesome release, but Watermelon In Easter Hay just blew me away when I first heard it, and it still does today. Thank you Frank, for *all* of your music over the years… I’m still listening! And a special thank you to Dweezil, for playing this beautiful tune for your father- he’s surely looking down on you and is very proud. Thank you for sharing this video.

Easter Hay? Maybe it's an inside joke I'm not getting. But agreed, saw him at the Aggie Theater in Fort Collins, CO and it just fucking ripped. The tears he was wiping back for The Last Imaginary Guitar Solo just killed me. Not a dry eye in the house.

Been listening to Zappa, and I can't get past the whole jazz/rock improv approach. And some stuff, well, he's just messing with us. But this is sublime. His guitar work is like nothing of its time.

Per Steve Vai's transcription in The Frank Zappa Guitar Book, the recorded version on Joe's Garage is alternating bars of 4/4 and 5/4. Here is what my drummer Nicholas Elie has to say about the performance in this video: "I definitely think the pulse is on the quarter note. It sounds like it starts with the 5 and then the 4. Definitely in 9 though. So to say 9/4 or alternating between 5/4 and 4/4 is almost subjective, depends who you’re listening too. Joe Travers definitely alternating, I think Dweezil is playing the full measure as 9/4."

It is something Gail perpetuated at the time of the Frank Zappa Memorial Tribute EP as a "deathbed wish" of his. She utilized it when going after tribute bands.

It is not sports, David. and it's not impossible, but it is expensive in terms of losing lots of time with your family, much like the Apollo astronauts. Dweezil is every bit as astonishing as his father, just in different ways.
