Qawi was deceptive defensively. He was always coming forward in a compact way. It seemed almost impossible to get him flush on the chin and his opponents didn’t land many of those eye catching pez dispenser like head shots. Just a different breed of fighter.

I met piet a couple of times , he was doing bouncer work at the malvern hotel on saturday nights in johannesburg. He was a lot taller than he looks here. Also a lovelly guy. i found he had no airs or graces about himself despite being a south african celeb. Genuine nice guy. I think it was late 80s . Also because of sanctions qawi lost his ranking for flying over to south africa for this fight. Piet is a very successful business man these days.
