It is the world's most visited parliament building: the Reichstag in Berlin. During a tour, you can even watch German politicians at their work. The first edition of the German Constitution, which turns 75 this year, is also kept in a vault here. And there is a magnificent view of Berlin from the Reichstag's viewing platform. Hannah Hummel shows you how to get into the Reichstag and just how much German history can be found in it.

The dome is Impressive, being transparent, it show the Germans civil sense, of carrying Reichstag work without disturbances

Yeah, it illuminates the chaber below due to the mirror setup, but honestly, you can't see absolutely nothing happening inside the chamber from the rooftop. :-)

It also symbolizes that the people are above the government, not the other way round.

These are all true, but the old dome functioned more harmoniously with the Reichstag than Foster's dome.

I visited the Reichstag in the summer of 84, when the city was still divided, I can remember looking out of a window at the rear of the building and over the wall into the eastern part of the city...where you could see a mound of earth that was all that remained from the Chancellery from WWII . As part of that visit we also went through Checkpoint Charlie to see the Russian memorial at Treptower Park, which was an interesting experience, seeing young Russian soldiers paying their respects. Berlin is an amazing city, one that I would definitely visit again, the "new" Reichstag will certainly be on my list of places to see.

Each tour is different depending on your guide and what's going on, on the day of your visit. Ive been on a group tour that walked across the high-level bridge over the Spree, usually reserved for politicians and staff at the Reichstag

I’ve done that tour and as an American I found it to be one of the most amazing places I’ve been blessed to visit because of the contrast between what it once was and what it now stands for in the world. God bless the German people of today.

I understand the pride in the design of the building being transparent that the proceedings in the chamber can be seen by all visitors. The Welsh Senedd (Parliament) also has this element and like the Reichstag, can be accessed quite easily by all.

Visited the inside of Reichstag back in 2009. Really enjoyed it. Didn't know u could actually go inside. Unfortunately the audioTour was all in German. But we still loved the views from the roof, which was great. Had an amazing time in Berlin, probably my favourite European City I've been too. So much to do there

I would suggest booking a tour of the whole building as you get to lean about German government and actually sit in the galleries of the Parliamentary chamber. Of course afterwards you get to tour the dome as well. And it's all free. A must do if in Berlin.

I’m confused. Reichstag? Bundestag? Which name is correct? Or which one is the official name?
@mitk259
@mitk259 2 ай бұрын
Reichstag was the name of the parliament back in the Weimar Republic. Today, just the name of the building is "Reichstag", but because Germany isn´t a "Reich" anymore but a Federal Republic, the name of the parliament is "Bundestag" (Bund is federal state in english). So today the "Bundestag" is having it´s meetings in the "Reichstag"-building :). I don´t know, to be honest, why they didn´t change the name of the building as well. Maybe you can find the reason somewhere online.

@u.p.1038 2 ай бұрын
I is a construction side, as mentioned in the video they are building a new visitor center. If there is ground work going on they will temporarily redirect the existing pipes above the ground while building new ones beneath the new building. That is certainly not unique to Germany. ;)

Berlin was build on marshland, so when something is constructed, the water has to be pumped somewhere. These pipes can be seen over the entire city ;)

last year I just walked by in the front yard, but I did't know that I can visit, if I knew it was possible I would have definetely visited. I didn't even think about possibility of visiting bcs you know it's a parliament. You can't even see German Consulate in Turkey, even it's hard to get visa appointment from their arranged visa application center. and the visa durations are too short. They give maximum of 3 monhs. We live right next to Europe, even some part of Turkey is located in Europe, but when it comes to visiting, we are having hard times. Now with economic instability things got even harder. Even though we need to plan our trip to Europe at least 6 months prior to visit, EU citizens can come and visit Turkey with their expired ID cards. How fair is this? My advice to EU governments is that, check every document necessary as usual but at least give some people 5 years, 10 years long tourist visa just like USA or Canada. They can do it, why can't you? I very much like European Culture, especially German castles are simply gorgeous, fascinating. I would like to visit them, but not in a rush. East Europe is also beautiful. Italy is wonderful, Netherlands' superb. Sweden's lovely. I have visited more than 15 countries in Europe. I love every bit of it. But with this conditions, it takes so much time, energy, money. It's not feasable in the long run. Please make it easier, at least for the doctors :)

The building was right beside the wall and is not too far from the Brandenburger Tor, while it was in West-Berlin it was situated right on the border and therefore likely harder to get to. Furthermore it didn’t serve any purpose at that time and wasn’t in a representable state, so it likely wouldn’t have been recommended to you then

I'm not sure I get the point you are making. Are you perhaps (and hopefully) celebrating the Reichstag's return to housing a democratically elected parliament called the Bundestag being not to the liking of a certain infamous dictator? Or, are you making a childish statement and dredging up a dark past that has no connection to the Germany of today?
