Now that we have our city established, its time to make it look less like a ghetto. Here's how!

Finally got to beat my old record. I failed this game every single time too, until I've watched this video and MICRO MANAGE every single dollar and expand when the time's right. Sometime you gotta sacrifice your people's happiness so you can live longer. What a great hidden experience in SimCity 4. Sadly you can't really experience it until you know how life works and this game really teaches me a lot. Thank you dwyrin!

Hi, you need to make a next part to this. Lots of unanswered questions. my city makes money but is impossible to grow. help needed!!!

I have a question regarding the roads. I installed the NAM mod pack, and most of my avenue's show up w/ the turn lanes, etc. However, on the roads, either where they intersect each other, or the avenues, I dont get the turn lanes like what you've got. Its not a huge deal but I like that look. Is there some setting I'm missing to get that same turn lane setup? So far I'm following your layout exactly and its working out very nicely. I've played SC on & off for a long time, but never really tried to get good at it, so what I've got now is the best I've ever had. Definitely going to try keeping it up.

Just got this game on steam holiday sales. Great videos, I like your symmetrical build style and your laid back commentary, I screwed up big time in my first few citites, but I'm making good progress and have a few profitable cities now. I think I'm gonna have to check out some mods later on. BTW is there any point in taking on the driving missions etc. they're a huge pain in the ass to me and demand way to much patience.
@dwyrin10 жыл бұрын
Driving missions are mostly there just for a change of pace. Gratz on picking up the game though, hope you enjoy it!
@MattMinecraft45 жыл бұрын
Driving missions are good change of pace but allow for you to unlock buildings faster than by reaching milestones and thresholds in the game. Some missions are a one time deal and you get a new building or landmark, others take a few iterations for you to work up to it.

Love the tutorial. As a comment I think they should rename to SimAmericanCity ... urban areas built around roads for cars, rather than trains, cycle paths, light rail and walkable neighbourhoods. Or maybe in version 5 they allow us to create visionary cities, not ones from the past.
@user729744 жыл бұрын
You can tell the game was made with an American bias. It would be nice if the city building games of the future let you tweak "predispositions" for things like transportation modes (walking, cycling, transit, etc) so you can model cities like those around the world.

The people will still have physical access to the parks that are in the center of these city blocks?
@Nihilianth11 жыл бұрын
As Dwyrin already said. But I would like to add: Do not be afraid to demolished well-established areas with huge skyscrapers. If you need to re-route an avenue or a highway, or to put in a new highway, do so. Even if it costs some nice buildings that have developed. One oft he biggest rookie mistakes one can make in SC4, is NOT to touch older and/or better-established sections of their city for the purposes of better traffic patterns.
@aspee1n11 жыл бұрын
How do i get the turning lanes on the roads?? Great videos! :)

For me, I have insane trouble with "terraforming" I believe it's called in this game or adjusting the land to my wants/needs. I attempt to force some island areas to have more land, but it ends up too bumpy or the level of one independent surface is too radically different from the one across the river for a bridge to work.
@11matt5559 жыл бұрын
What do you do to deal with the traffic problems? I usually build avenues interlaced with roads and other avenues in a (I think) 6x9 grid. I then subdivide the grid with additional roads, avenues, rails, highways etc as needed and that seems to work fairly well. But your roads and such do not line up and seem to have bottlenecks between your R, C and I zones. How do you do it?
@barcelona55008 жыл бұрын
+11matt555 Build bus in about every corner, in all R, C, and I areas so they take the bus to work, you can use the commuter shuttle service ordinance, i think the carpool one doesn't work on vanilla due to a bug so if you have mods you can use it. Build a metro system underneath as well that goes from R to C. Also, I i build adjacent cities that have C and I in their edges so people living on the edges of the other city don't have to cross the whole map to go to work it but instead just go to the other city.

Oh, and sorry. The biggest...I mean the BIGGEST....thing about traffic in SC4: Avoid the "Never-ending Commuters" bug at all costs. If Dwyrin knows anything about it, perhaps that would be a good suggestion for you to make to Dwyrin in one of this tutorial videos: Demonstrate the Neighbor City Commuter bug. Basically, try to avoid connections of neighboring cities that border each other on a single corner. It is worse when three or four cities share a single corner. Much worse.

Just follow the algorithms and you will win it! 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256.
@cornloin97326 жыл бұрын
what does that even mean
@CrybKeeper6 жыл бұрын
I should have said, follow the algorithms *AND* the numbers. Of course, a games algorithms(patterns of activity), follow these very same numbers. *EXAMPLES:* If you make your city blocks 8x8 and put a bus stop every 16 tiles, you will be using the most efficient distances for the games algorithm to completely solve traffic issues. Subways, trains, highways are not even necessary. If your high schools and elementary schools are all 32 tiles apart(squared) and your libraries are 16 tiles apart(squared), you will let the games algorithms solve ALL of your education woes. It is no accident, that a small city in the game is 64 tiles square, medium city is 128 and large city is 256, all of them divisible by the base number of 8.

@dwyrin9 жыл бұрын
No reason. Just wasn't keeping track of the count
@ianicus1239 жыл бұрын
the double industry mod is a huge advantage/cheat, the NAM mod is great thou, not really a cheat, just improves the existing road system. without the indy mod thou you have ALOT more industrial zoning...
@dwyrin9 жыл бұрын
But you have that because only 50 people work in a huge factory. That's a bit unrealistic, no?
@ianicus1239 жыл бұрын
with automation? the "big factories" in sim city 4 dont come close to say an automobile manufacturing line or say the mega factories in china, I think 50 sims per 4x4 factory is reasonable, either way, ill stand by my opinion that modifying the road system to improve it is fine, but modifyinf something like the industry mod is def boarder line cheating.
@CrybKeeper7 жыл бұрын
