Using adhesive vinyl as a stencil/mask to dip dye a disc golf disc in heated liquid dye. You can put almost anything on a disc using this method.

I searched around youtube for awhile trying to find the best video for dying discs. This makes it simple, understandable, and fun to watch. I actually used Idye Poly and Rit dye worked too. Wish I could show you a picture of how my discs turned out. Total success. Thanks a ton.

Did you do a RIT + water dye? I've only done RIT lotion bed dyes but want to try and figure out stencils.

Very cool my man have you ever tried mixing your dyes with acetone and brushing on that mixture? It works really good and really fast try it out if you haven’t I highly recommend peace and love my man

I love this vid! I’ve been using I dye poly, for some shaving cream dyes. I want to try this method. I’ve watched a lot of videos on the subject. This is the best one out there.

Love this! Super intimidated by hot dipping, I do glue beds, shaving cream, lotion, etc. but something about hot dipping makes me cautious. Such great results though! You earned my sub!

@@WesleyDoes_ Is there another method that can be used for getting a dark stencil that doesn't require hot dipping? I've done some stencil work, but mostly using them to keep the disc it's original color on the inside and making colors around it.

Nice! I KNEW I was keeping a few rolls of ugly ass oracle here for a reason. I was thinking of trying of something like this and here you are, doing it. Costs add up tho, as this vinyl aint cheap. I'd bet a small vinyl sticker and then cover the rest with packing tape, would save the vinyl cost? Thanks for the vid! Fwiw, I was told discs dont like being above 120F and the chemdyes prefer 110-140f, go figure. Thanks for the tip about reclaiming the dye. Maybe NOT rubbing cloth over the skillet, would keep fibres from getting in there? Prolly doesnt matter for soak. Thanks for the vid! Looks great! I can proudly admit to not seeing all the Star Wars, just the original. Woulda been good to see them glowing too. Can't wait to ruin some discs learning this dye stuff.

Can you do a stencil with the state of Texas on it? To show the difference colors on how to dye them separately?

I can work on something like that. When you’re doing multiple colors it’s best to mix the dye with lotion and paint it on the disc where you want it.

For the concoction of black dye, what are the contents? Did you say Idye poly and water? If so, what is the mixture makeup?

All of my hot dips are close to 1tsp to 32oz Mason jar of water.

@@WesleyDoes_ wow. I screwed up when I started. I poured the whole packet of I dye poly into a 16 oz squeeze bottle. I did that with four different colors. Oh well. Maybe I’ll add water as I go.

how/what machine are you using to find and cut your stencils?... getting clean cuts by hand is doable, but seems very time consuming

It is definitely time consuming. I have a silhouette cameo 4. The silhouette software makes it fairly easy to turn black and white images into cuttable ones.

I'm a tad confused, another video I saw said that I would only need the contact paper and to cut the stencil out of the contact paper, what is the difference between only using contanct paper vs using the contact paper to transfer vinyl?

You can probably get away with using the contact paper as the vinyl, but it doesn’t have as strong of an adhesive. The dye may run underneath the edges. Contact paper is made to hold all of the satellite parts of the image in their place so you can place it all on the disc at once. Some prefer to place a sheet of vinyl/contact paper on the disc then cut the pattern out and peel it one piece at a time from the disc.

@@WesleyDoes_ so technically I am able to only use the contact paper? Another question you may or may not know the answer too. Does Rit Dyemore absolutely need to be heated ? Or will it work with room temp water?

@@jakeb9911 I’ve never used rit dye more. Just about every threads I’ve read on dip dyes says heat makes it way faster.

If you’re using iDye m, naked sure the packet says iDye “poly”. If not it won’t work on plastic.

So if you print a design you put the vinyl over it and cut the vinyl then you cover the vinyl with the transfer right?

Yep. If you have some sort of trace table or backlight it helps.

I didn’t have a thermometer when I made that video. I just turned it on low until the very first hint of steam started rising off of the pan.

I get the images off of Google. I have the software that came with my vinyl cutter(cameo 3) to clean up the image a little befor I cut it.

I can but it makes them too fast and they become unstoppable. I’d advise against it unless your really trying to blow your hair back.

It needs to be a dye that is made for plastic. Fabric dye won’t work unless it’s for synthetic fabric.

@@lukasmvp i don’t recommend dyeing base plastics like DX, Pro, R-Pro, or any of the putter blends. I dye poly will work on most premium blends tho. Like star, fusion, neutron, gold line, s-line...

So what's the purpose of the transfer tape if you have the vinyl? I think I saw a video where somebosy didn't use transfer tape but used the vinyl. Thanks for the video! Just trying to figure out if I need to go buy transfer tape

When you peel the back off of the vinyl the places you cut out won’t come off unless there is something over then to hold them in place.
