Dirt Cake was definitely a classic for any kid in the 90s in the US, but it was usually just a simpler version with layered chocolate pudding and oreos with the gummy worms.

My Gram used to make this for my brother and I when we were kids, washed down with about a gallon of Kool-aid with all the sugar. We also spent the entire day running around playing and doing chores (you want to burn off energy, split and stack a few cords of wood and tend horses). I miss those days.

I feel like kids born in 90 are in a weird limbo. We are way more like 80s kids than 90s kids. Even '93. So much had already changed by then. It's no wonder the world has gone to hell in a hand basket so quickly. I don't think humans were meant to have to adapt to so much chronic and extreme change so quickly.

He then took a spoonfull and shoved it into his mouth. my great grandma looked mortified. She was stuck with her jaw open, and we had to explain. Once she figured it out, she couldn't stop laughing. My grandmother made this for a family reunion one time and took it a step further. She made the cake in a metal flower pot, put an artificial plant in it, and stuck a garden trowel in it. Born in 1993, these were a pretty common staple for deserts with kids meals at restaurants-though usually with chocolate pudding, not vanilla, served in single-serve cups, and usually called a “mud cup” or “dirt cup”. Kids absolutely did go feral for them, including myself.

So funny story; at my first duty station they had family day and we volunteered to bring a dessert. (Didn’t tell them what it was) My wife made a dirt cake and put it in a plastic planter with fake red, white and blue flowers. When we arrived everyone looked at us weird and put what we brought as a “center piece” on the main table. We didn’t say anything; ate our main meal and then went and helped ourselves to our dessert. Once they realized what we brought, they laughed and the dirt cake was gone. 😂

I was an 80s baby and my mom made a dirt cake for my birthday every year. It's still an OCCASIONAL family favorite! One year my mom made dirt cake in a planting pot, put a bouquet of fake flowers in it, and brought it to a baby shower. She placed it right in the center of the table. When it was time for refreshments, my mom pulled out the flowers and licked off the stem. The hostess about had a heart attack.

My aunt brought dirt cake to a family get together in a tall metal bucket with fake flowers in the top, oreos covering the top that looked like actual dirt and gummy worms sticking out of it. Fearless is a stupid concept. You should never be fearless. Fear is good. A lack of fear is a life without meaning. Having courage is what you should aim for which is the act of living in spite of fear not without it. The most courageous of people are the people who can function as a human being despite being terrified of everything. I for instance have absolutely no fears except of my own self. I cannot function as a human being despite having only a single solitary yet completely inescapable phobia. As such I am completely incapable of courage. This makes me a coward in spite of the fact if you put a gun to my head I will attempt to deep throat that shit and go out on a laugh.
